She would continue loving him
even if they were apart now,
broken apart
by this stupid war that'd been brewing too long
in the shadows behind the scenes,
pulling the strings…
They could both die anytime;
anyone could die any time –
no-one's life was safe
from death's hand.
He was just trying to protect her
but that was impossible: she couldn't be protected,
not from this, not from the war
and even if he left her with tears in her eyes
there was no stopping them from falling
because she could see the tears in her eyes as well.
It didn't make it any easier at all;
they loved each other too completely;
they were simply meant to be
And she made a wish in the darkness
that they'd be together
once the war was done: whether a happy future
they could barely see on the horizon
or one in which they lay in death
together.
