122. In the Moonlit Fields

He'd wanted to change, to be together every moment
with her. She hadn't wanted that for him, but for him
it was the only way
to share her pain
and those joys she could find
in the haze

And now they changed together, shed their human skins
as the winter wait was over and the youth of spring began
and they'd run along the flower fields together,
tumbling and yelping like dogs dripping
with passionate heat

And they'd devour the scents of the sweet flowers in springtime
and marvel at it all, how it changed in the wind
every time

and it was something they'd never have been able to share
unless he'd been changed,
like her.

She was still upset, he knew, but he was happier now
because he could share it all with her, hold her,
embrace her in those tumbling rolls of flower buds
and pollen, and show the depth of his love for her.
