125. Long Since Dead

She was long since dead
but he still remembered the fell
of her olive skin, the scent
of lingering shampoo in her hands,
the way her teeth were so sharp, yet so flat
and biting, poking, where it counts

Even though it'd been – what? 10? 15? Years
since he'd held her, since she'd been alive
but he loved her as much as he had
the day they'd first met.

He could never love another like that
even if she was dead;
she'd taught his wild heart
how to roll over and die like a good
little dog.

He still remembered the echo of her voice,
her moist tongue licking the lobes
of his ears; she was long since dead
but he couldn't let her go.
