A/N: here with another chapter and more explanations from Rinan.

The pungent smell of burning flesh lingered slightly in the air, however Lucy had a massive headache as she slowly sat up. Glancing to her left she was aware of Natsu watching her with a worried gaze with Happy asleep on his lap.

"You worried me there, Luce" Natsu admitted as he placed one of his hands on her shoulder.

She smiled slightly before placing one of her hands over his own.

"Thanks for watching me" she smiled before attempting to stand. Natsu quickly stood, placing Happy on his shoulder and offered her one of his own hands to help her stand.

"That's smells still around and it's the same one from when Rissy was attacked" Natsu stated as they started walking.

Lucy frowned before reaching for her keys, it couldn't have been a coincidence the attacker striking on the same job where Rinan was present. She had a rough idea of who he was but she needed to be sure.

As she stopped walking, Natsu turned to face her with one of his brows raised and was surprised as Lucy summoned Crux.

"So why'd you summon him Luce?" Natsu asked with a frown.

"I think I know who Rinan but I need to make sure that my theories possible" She told him before turning to the cross shaped spirit.

She frowned slightly to find that he was indeed asleep, however as she slowly poked him his eyes opened a sliver before widening.

"Crux, do you know if time travel could be possible in about eighteen years time?" Lucy asked the spirit.

The spirit closed his eyes slowly and small bubble of drool appeared as he started to deeply snore.

"Luce...He's sleeping..." Natsu loudly whispered.

Lucy shook her head at the dragon slayer before gesturing to the spirit.

"No...he's checking his archives for information" She corrected though she was unsure herself.

Crux suddenly awakened, his eyes eyes wide and the drool bubble now popped.

"Miss Lucy, time travel can be possible with two methods though they would both require a tremendous amount of magic power" Crux told her.

Lucy's eyes widened before nodding as she quickly turned to Natsu with a smile.

"See times travel is possible, it's proving my theory!" She declared with a grin.

Natsu stared at her confused and a now groggy Happy just glanced at her before closing his eyes once more.

"What theory Luce?" Natsu asked and Lucy mentally face palmed for not telling her partner of her suspicions.

"That Rinan's from the future" she said before turning back to Crux.

"What were the methods?" She asked, frowning slightly since Crux was once again asleep.

Crux suddenly awakened before glancing up at the mages.

"One of course is time magic but travel back over ten years would require-"

"Tremendous amounts of energy, now what's the other method?" Natsu asked eagerly.

"The second method would be by the use of celestial magic, as a form of space the two go hand in hand" Crux explained which caused Lucy's eyes to widen.

"So with the aid of Horologium, a mage would be able to go back in time?" Lucy asked.

Crux nodded before double blinking to get the sleep out of his eyes.

"Yes but it would require tremendous-"

"Amounts of magic energy" Lucy finished with a sigh before turning to Natsu.

He had his eyes narrowed at Lucy as if inspecting her.

"So if Rinan isn't a time mage he must have used that clock spirit to get back here" Natsu concluded.

Lucy nodded though she was still confused, for if Rinan came from around eighteen years into the future someone else could have acquired her keys and aided him but Lucy doubted that theory was even possible which only meant..

"I must have helped Rinan come back" she said grimly. And that was when she had a heart attack - well not literally.

She continued to stare at the dark teen waiting for him to give her an explanation. She folded her arms over her chest, Lavender following suit and her brows were slightly furrowed as she was tapped her foot impatiently against the ground.

"I'm still waiting..." She pointed out with a sigh.

Rinan nodded before holding up his hands in surrender.

"Alright, I promised you answers" he said with a sigh.

Both Lavender and Rissy nodded in unison as they waited for Rinan to speak. His gaze was focused elsewhere and his eyes glassy.

"I came here to save some people I care about" he started.

Rissy nodded though her eyes were still narrowed.

"But where do you come from exactly?" She asked with her head tilted slightly.

"Magnolia...but eighteen years from now" he told her with a sigh.

Rissy's eyes widened as she stared at the dark haired mage, she didn't even think that time travel was possible or even safe.

"What happened to make you come back?" Lavender asked with a frown.

"Around this time, some sort of bill was passed pushing for the registration of mages and let's just say that the council for more forceful "

The shouts of the Fairy Tail mages cursing echoed throughout the guild, his mother quickly placed her hands over his ears causing him to squirm slightly. The lacrima screens in front of them showed the new head of council announcing the new passing of the magic registration bill.

"That idiot has been worsening the situation between mages for over eighteen years" Mira muttered as she continued to wipe down the bar.

His mother nodded in agreement before taking another swig of her drink.

"Who would've thought he would have turned mages against one another " She said with a bitter laugh.

"It's too bad that we're not banding together like we used to" Mira muttered.

"It's a good thing that Wendy and Mest are part of the council then...At least then we have a voice on the inside" Levy reasoned to which both women nodded.

Glancing closer at the large screen he could clearly see Mest along with the recent council member Wendy.

"I can't believe that the guilds are going to stand for this" his uncle Natsu growled out, his cousin Taichi nodding in agreement.

"The guilds have no influence over the council...Both Sting and Rogue tried opposing the bill but it was no use" his mother said with a sigh as she ruffled his hair.

"Magic registration...sounds interesting" Erza cooed as herself and Gray joined them, the ice mage holding a large brown bag.

"We've already got the reward..We just need to find Lucy and the flame idiot and then head out" he stated as he continued to swing the bag.

Rissy turned to face her with a frown, making a mental note to herself to buy Erza a bell on her next shopping trip.

"So how long were you two standing there?" Rissy asked with her arms folded.

Gray shrugged before turning to Erza.

"Long enough" they answered in unison.

Erza then turned to Rinan with her sword pointed in his face, which caused him to step back slightly.

"Care to continue?" She asked. Though it wasn't a question.

Everyone watched in horror as both Erik and Kinana were dragged from their home and forcibly arrested by the new Rune Knights. The guild was once again thrown into an uproar as everyone shouted in protest, however it was Erza that silenced the mages.

"They're going after the dragon slayers now" Mira stated in disbelief.

It was after the bill was passed did the council deem all forms of lost magic dangerous and that too included dragon slaying magic. All mages that practiced lost magic were given the option to register along with the other mages however that wasn't taken too kindly.

"This is no way to act, we keep our wits about us and act with caution and then our nakama can be released" She reasoned.

There were more shouts of protest before Natsu slammed one of his swords into a guild table - which effectively silenced the mages.

"We can't act like this, Erza's right we need to act carefully otherwise all the work that Wendy and Mest have been doing will be for nothing!" He shouted at the mages.

His mother nodded in agreement before standing up next to his uncle.

"And we have responsibilities to think about..."

There was a silence before Erza spoke up.

"We won't sign up with the registration but we'll be a resistance"

"So a resistance to oppose the registration?" Gray asked with his arms folded.

Rinan nodded in agreement before turning back to Rissy. She was grinning with excitement.

"So you mentioned Erza and my brother so what about us?" She asked gesturing between herself and Lavender.

Gray face palmed before turning to the salmon haired woman.

"Weren't you listening...you were mentioned multiple times" Gray pointed out.

Rissy frowned before turning to face him.

"But that doesn't make sense you only said stuff with your mum" she muttered to herself.

He visibly paled at the sight of his mother lying motionless on the ground. The hunts had gotten worse, the knights getting more forceful of their efforts to arrest the rebel mages, and as a result his mother was injured.

She struggled to sit upright as she pressed her hand against her wound, she hissed slightly as her flesh continued to quietly burn.

"Your father's not going to like this..."She winced as she continued to put pressure on her wound.

He quickly ran over to her and placed a hand on her back to help her sit upright. The footsteps of the rune knights were getting closer and Rinan knew that they needed to leave or risk getting caught.

"Maybe you can apologize to him later" He said with a weak laugh.

She swayed slightly as she stood, most likely from blood loss and the adrenaline fading.

"I don't think there's a next time, Rin" she said weakly her eyes drooping closed somewhat.

It was then that Rinan realised that the wound was through and through and blood was also pouring out from her back.

"It's just Rinan ma" he told her, tears starting to form.

She smiled before placing her hands on his shoulders her eyes wide and glassy.

"Just take care of your father" she told him.

He was about to tell her to take care of him herself when smoke filled the area causing both mages to freeze. His mother shifted to fighting stance despite her injuries and Rinan was ready to curse her.

Their attacker or the smoker as he liked to call himself made himself known as he stepped through the smoke once again his purple acid like liquid dripping from his hands.

As he advanced towards them his mother pushed him behind her.

"Find your father" She ordered him.

He stiffened before turning back to face her.

"Ma...I can help" he tried to reason.

She shook her head before gesturing to her own wound.

"At least this way they can't get you " she tried to reason

He shook his head in anger, he hated running they had been running for so long and already nearly all the slayers were down or hiding.

"But then I lose you..." He whispered.

She smiled once more before cupping his cheeks and softly pressing a kiss into his hairline.

"And that's a price I'm willing to pay" She said softly.

Before he could protest she had pushed him away and used her magic to create a barrier between them. His efforts to break the barrier were in vain and all he could do was watch as his mother fought a battle that she just couldn't win.

However she still smiled till the end.

*Present day X792*

He suddenly stopped his tail as both Rissy and Lavender started to wail.

"That was so sad...your mum...She..she" Lavender started before she started crying once more. Rissy lifted the exceed into her arms and started gently rocking her as tears left her own eyes.

"You're going to stop this, aren't you?" Erza asked

Rinan nodded before turning back to face Rissy once more.

"Of course but now Smokers going to try and take out the slayers before they reach their peak strength" Rinan explained.

"Which is why we find him now and stop him" Gray stated.

"It isn't that easy I'm running out of time to change things...that registration bill started it all and talks about it start around this time" Rinan told them with a frown.

"If nothing gets changed here your timeline wine differ?" Erza asked

Rinan nodded before turning to his watch.

"Yeah and changes need to happen fast"

Wendy struggled to keep up with the taller mage, as she continued to turn down multiple corridors as they continued to follow Mest around the Magic Council headquarters. She gaped in wonder at the paintings that decorated the walls and ceiling, however with the speed Mest was walking at there wasn't any time for sightseeing.

"I'm sorry to drag you away from your day with Chelia and Carla, Wendy" Mest apologised as he started to slow his movements.

Wendy shook her head with a small.

"It's fine, but what I really wanted to know was why you brought me here" she answered.

Mest's expression changed slightly and he lowered himself so that he was now at eye level with the young sky mage.

"Wendy things are about to change...and I wanted you to be the first to know that is" he told her, his expression grim.

Her eyes widened as if searching his own for an answer, though Wendy had always found her friend hard to read at this moment in time it was near impossible.

"Mest what's going to happen-" She asked before the set of large double doors were swung open.

Mest straightened his posture quickly before moving to stand next to the sky mage. Her own posture remained rigid is a tall, thin man in a crisp suit stepped in. Something about his smile instantly caused Wendy's insides to scream though put of a facade of politeness for after all she was taught to respect her elders.

Mest untangle bowed his head slightly at the sight of the man instantly causing Wendy to do the same.

"Chairman Hoshino," he said before turning to Wendy "this is Miss Wendy Marvell" he stated and Wendy could hear the swell of pride in his voice as he introduced her

Wendy recognised this man as the new chairman, seeing him on multiple covers of the Sorcerer as well as taking over many of the lacrima screens. His gaze suddenly shifted from Mest to her and an eerie smile formed on his face, which only caused her nervous state to worsen.

"Ah the sky mage...you spoke so highly of her that I didn't expect her to be so small" he stated before turning to Mest.

"She may be small but she is strong for someone of her age and size" Mest countered before gesturing for Wendy to follow them into the chairman's office.

Wendy once again found herself gaping at the scenery, a large window lay behind the chairman's desk and thus gave him million jewel view of the continents capital. The decor of the office caused Wendy to shiver some, everything in the office was a pristine white; the walls, desk - even the floors were immaculate white marble and gave the sky mage the impression that she were in a mental home.

As if sensing her unease, Mest placed a hand on her shoulder whilst offering her a smile and she instantly calmed somewhat.

The chairman nodded before retreating behind his desk, he pulled out a large brown file before placing it in front of them.

"Here's some of the mages who have already registered...feel free to look through" he stated before turning to inspect hid view of his empire.

Both mages wasted little time as they glanced through the files. Photos of mages she didn't know as well as mages she did papered in the files. She frowned asks she saw a photo of one of the mermaid heel mages before turning to face the chairman.

"Just what are they registering, Hoshino - San?" She asked politely

He turned to face her an eerie smile still evident and without thinking laced her fingers with Mest's.

"A safer world" he told her.

She narrowed her eyes in confusion, her hands still laced with Mest's, however he didn't seem to mind.

"Miss Marvel, do you care about your friends?" He asked his gaze flickering to her and Mest's joined hands.

She slowly tightened her hold on hi hand before nodding, the chairman smiled smiled at the action.

"Mages are like caged animals released back into the wild...They have abilities that they can barely control and need to be tamed" he tried to reason.

Her eyes eyes narrowed some, how could the chairman assume that mages needed to be controlled, she knew that mages could be reckless yet they always had the town's best interest at heart.

"What do you mean 'tamed' that implies that mages are wild" Wendy countered.

Mest seemed to smile at her statement however the chairman was less than pleased.

"Have you seen your guild, Fairy Tail alone is responsible for a third of Magnolias repair bills" he remarked.

"Yet they always come through...chairman mages may be reckless but we do a good job of protecting the continent" Mest argued.

The chairman seemed disappointed with Mest and lowered his gaze somewhat.

"It's a shame, Gryder I thought that you were different but it seems that the sky mage was weaved a spell overt you and clouded your judgement" he said with a sigh.

"The registration is just a way to control mages and decide who's bad and who's not and no one deserves that power" Wendy added, Mest nodded before starting to usher Wendy out of the room.

Chairman Hoshino sighed once more before slowly clapping his hands and causing both mages to freeze.

"Foolish girl...There is now power of I am power and I can't let you leave"

Both Wendy and Mest paled slightly, and Mest instantly pushed the younger mage behind him. It was then that the chairman clicked his fingers and the large doors swung open revealing revealing cloaked man covered with smoke.

The smoke caused both mages the cough and splutter, Wendy finding her vision starting to cloud, she was the first to fall with her much smaller size and Mest was quick to catch her.

"We can't have you ruining plans now can we?" He asked with a grin as her vision faded to darkness.

So what did you think of that?

Once again a massive thankyou to all who have survived this long and a cookie to those who reviewed.

I don't even know what I just did there, I think I started to make a plot but we can't be too sure now cane we?

So we now know why Rinan came back to the past however is his timelines fate inevitable?

We know of Rissy's future self's fate but what of Rogue?

And what is to happen to Wendy and Mest?

Stay tuned for the next chapter where most of those questions are answered and more are created.
