A/N: Whoop new chapter which I couldn't help but post, my inner muse was attacking me and wouldn't leave...

Wendy wasn't under any delusion that the smoke magic would be easy to control, though in a way it was similar to her air magic it was different all the same. Combining the smoke magic with her own added an extra boost to her attacks and gave her an advantage over Hoshino. Since Hoshino from this time period wasn't as progressed as the one from the future she didn't have to worry about acidic like attacks that would potentially burn her flesh.

One if the multiple smoke like fists that Hoshino fired at her managed to land a blow to her shoulder. She staggered back from the blow that was sure to leave a bruise and left her movement on her left side somewhat restricted. Though Hoshino was stronger, his attacks having more power than her own he lacked speed.

She managed to dodge the smoke arms that attempted to grab her, rolling to the ground and out of harm's way and using the council tables as shields. She pressed her back against the table as she attempted to regain her energy, her heart pounding as Hoshino searched for her.

His footsteps echoed against the floor, mirroring her erratic heartbeat and the smoke filling the room only helped hide his appearance.

"Miss Marvel...to be honest I did not expect this from you I am rather impressed" he hissed as he continued to pace the room.

Wendy placed her hands over her mouth to calm her breathing. She glanced around the room and noticed Hoshino was nearing her hiding spot,

"You're not hiding from me are you?" He continued his steps getting closer.

Wendy noticed a free escape route and quickly scrambles to her hands and knees to hide behind a new overturned table. Noticing the sound Hoshino quickly turned, though he wasn't fast enough to catch the young mage and only succeeded in destroying her earlier hiding space.

Hoshino was occupied with searching for her, so she quickly staggered up and before he could react fired an attack.

"Sky dragons roar!" She shouted, though instead of the normal gust of wind her attack was now a cloud of smoke mixed in with said wind and sent Hoshino staggering backwards.

Noticing that Hoshino was starting to get she quickly cast another spell.

"Elemental resistances rise!" The spell used was to increase her defenses and allowed her to have the extra defense incase Hoshino decided to attack once more.

"Sky dragons wing attack!" She shouted as she swiped at Hoshino causing the wind and smoke to hit him. Though to her surprise Hoshino grabbed at her arm and thus prevented the attack from hitting him. She struggled to free herself from his tight grip however his hold only increased as the smoke started to encase her entire arm.

"An impressive display, Miss Marvell...only I must admit that our battle must come to an end" he announced before preparing to strike with his free arm.

Her eyes widened before coming to her senses.

"Sky dragons roar!" She shouted the attack hitting Hoshino right in the chest and making him topple over multiple tables.

The force of her attack sent her staggering backwards and she had to regain her footing. Hoshino too staggered up, his hair a mess and his crisp suit ripped in multiple places.

Wendy knew that she was running out of magic energy so she needed to end the battle and quickly. Though Hoshino was stronger than she was and his attacks much more deadly if the burns on her skin were anything to go by. So she knew that she needed to think fast.

Glancing towards Hoshino she quickly cast another spell.

"Physical capabilities rise!" Only this time the spell was aimed at Hoshino rather than herself.

Thanks to her spell his strength would have increased only that was all part of her plan.

"Foolish child...increasing my strength only gives me more power!" He declared before firing another attack.

She smiled before ducking to the ground. With his increased strength meant that his speed was lowered which allowed her to swiftly avoid his blows.

"Shattering light: skydrill" She shouted her arms continued to rotate and a whirlwind of air and smoke formed around the pair and caused multiple tables and chairs to shatter. The power of the attack sent Hoshino into the air and with a great force sent him back to the ground unmoving...

She released a sigh of relief and collapsed to the ground, glad that it was over.

She was glad to be fighting by Rogues side once, she would duck and he would strike the pair moved like one and fought as a team. Lucy had summoned Aquarius not too long ago and was fighting alongside the water spirit with her whip. Erza had changed into her heavens wheel armour and was using the dancing blades to pierce the smoke creatures. Even Natsu and Gray fought together, whilst the four exceeds flew overhead dropping rocks and bricks on the creatures.

Sting was fighting on her other side, using his magic to blasts holes through the creatures.

"Hey Rissy I bet you a bag of fudge that you can't kill more of these things that I can" Sting declared with a grin.

Rissy grinned before firing an attack at an oncoming creature, the result sending the beast into a puff of smoke with a strangled cry.

"You're on Eucliffe" She declared as she turned to face the blond dragon slayer.

To her right she saw Rogue shaking his head with a fond smile.

"You two are something else..." He muttered which caused both Sting and Rissy to grin.

Sting merely threw his arm around his brother's neck.

"It's why you love us" He commented which caused Rissy to nod before striking at another creature.

She turned back to Sting with a wide toothy grin.

"That's two for me and- oh none for you!" She declared before moving to fire at another group of shadow creatures.

Sting pouted slightly before jumping back into the fight, quickly dodging numerous amounts of creates as they attempted to overpower him. Rissy quickly jumped to his side, and with the multicoloured light engulfing her fists punched the creatures before they could inflict any further damage to her friend. A third creature attempted on jumping her while her back was turned, however with enhanced senses put into action she caught it before it got her.

With as much power she could muster she fired her next attack

'Fairy dragons wing attack!" And as the multicoloured light was expelled from her arms it resulted in reducing the creature into harmless smoke , she smiled at her friend whilst he gave her a nod of appreciation.

"That still counts as one" he remarked with a raised brow which caused Rissy to pout.

She folded her arms before turning to Rogue on disbelief. He merely shook his head at their childish behavior.

"Hey that was like five" She pouted before turning back to face Sting.

He shook his head before his eyes widened. She frowned at his expression

"Sting whats-"

"Rissy get down!" He shouted, though before she should react the smoker was behind her and was yanking her by the hair.

She struggled to escape the death grip he had on her hair, her arms flailed and her body fell to the ground as he proceeded to drag her away.

"That hurts shit face!" She shouted as he continued pulling her away from the group.

Sting at tamped to reach her however while his back was turned a group of smoke creatures attacked him from the back and brought him to the ground.

"Shit- Sting. Let me go you smokey bastard!" She screamed. Though to her surprise he released her from his hold and delivered a sharp kick to her stomach causing her to cry out in pain.

As soon as he heard her cry of pain he froze, it felt like someone had just kicked him in the gut and he turned to see Rissy lying on the ground in pain whilst the Smoker stood over her motionless body. He ignored the wails of the smoke creatures as he ran towards her, easily getting rid of any that stood in his way.

Frosch and Lavender quickly flew down by his side, the exceeds took hold of his arms to give him a lift into the hair.

"Frosch and Lavender can get Rogue-kun to Rissy-Chan faster" it declared with a smile

He nodded in agreement giving his partner a smile before they released him and sent him gently to the ground. He quickly ran over towards her, though the smoker attempted to attack him to keep them apart.

The exceeds once again lifted him to the air to avoid the smokers attack. And once they related him he attacked the smoker from behind and sent him to the ground.

With the smoker temporarily out the way he quickly scrambled towards Rissy and carefully picked up her motionless form in his arms.

"Clarissa..." He whispered afraid to raise his voice in case the worst was to happen.

The sounds of the oncoming battle echoed around him, though his focus was on her as she stirred in his arms. She opened her eyes and he couldn't be more glad at the sight of her dark gaze meeting his own.

"Rogue..." She muttered and he glanced up to see that they were now surrounded by the smoke creatures.

There was a loud shout to Rinan's left as Lucy was sent to the ground by one of the smoke creatures. With the blonde mage unable to fight, Aquarius was forcibly sent back to the celestial spirit world. Natsu quickly rushed to her side though the smoke creatures had immediately surrounded the pair of them.

Both Gray and Erza were stood back to back, the pair of them fighting of the smoke creatures as they attempted to jump them from multiple angles. Though even with their combined power it was all nothing of the smoker wasn't stopped.

Rinan's eyes widened as Lector was sent to the ground by one of the smoke creatures, with his partner calling out his name in desperation. There was so much destruction and he felt powerless to stop it.

He was once again going to lose those he loved. His mother was once again going to be lost to him and it seemed matter how hard he tried he would lose at least one person.

The father he knew - the one they called future Rogue had helped though he still felt resentment to the man he had to call father.

He turned to him with tears welled up in his eyes and his anger clear.

"Why weren't you there?!" He exclaimed over the hum of the battle.

Future Rogue stared at him and it was as if all time stood still and his father's dead eyes peered through him.

"I felt guilty...I lost her and staying away I lost you too" he explained.

Rinan wiped the back of his eyes with his sleeve. An oncoming creature attempted to to strike him, however with his enhanced reflexes the creature was quickly dealt with.

"Then why come back...back to this time?" Rinan asked, his head tilted to the side in confusion.

He was aware of Future Rogue studying him as if he was something or someone else entirely, though a small smile crossed his lips and Rinan saw a flash of the father he once knew.

"To make things right" he answered.

Before Rinan could ask him to elaborate his father had turned and they both noticed how the young versions of his parents were surrounded. He noticed future Rogue heading towards them and he ran over to him.

"W-what are you doing?" He asked with wide eyes.

Future Rogue ignored him, a fond smile crossed his lips as he placed his hand on the back of Rinan's head to place their foreheads together, something that he hadn't done in a long time.

"You have your mother's eyes" he stated though with a hint of sadness.

Rinan fought back the tears, he was angry at himself for crying though angrier for crying for his father. After his mother died his father abandoned them, he had abandoned him and left him to face the grief alone.

"Don't leave me...not again" Rinan pleaded softly.

His father smiled once more, and Rinan was aware of how it reached his eyes and how he he and seen him smile for a long time.

"I'm right here and this time maybe it will work out differently" he stated before walking away and leaving Rinan alone.

"Dad..."

He pressed Lucy's body closer to his own, the creatures had surrounded them now but his thoughts were focused on the woman he held in his arms.

"Luce..." He softly whispered, however the blonde remained motionless, her eyes were closed tightly and he longer for them to open. The flames ignited once more and he was ready to protect her, even if it meant the death of him.

He clutched her body closer to his own as the creatures wailed at them, the smoker making his way towards the creatures and advancing towards them. A smirk crossed his features and glancing down he noticed Rissy staring at him wide eyed with her dark eyes glistening. He suddenly felt a pang of guilt in his chest for tor he felt unable to protect her as the smoker attempted to finish the pair of them there and then.

He was aware of Rissy pressing her body closer to his own with a death like grip on his shirt. He merely placed a hand on her back and buried his face in her wild hair as they both awaited their fate.

The smoker raised his hand and smoke started to surround them once more and Rogue closed his eyes. Though the impact never came.

He heard the scream first before the full thud. He was confused for Rissy was calling out his name, though he was right next to her however he glanced down and noticed the lifeless body on the ground.

He was staring into his own face and the face turned to meet his own gaze.

"Don't make the same mistakes..." He muttered before he took his last breath and his eyes remained open yet unseeing.

There was another thud as the smoker fell to the ground, Erza and Gray were stood behind him the pair having completed a unison raid to defeat him and it seemed the smoker was dead. Though he wasn't the only casualty.

He held Rissy close to him as she continued to sob, he didn't care as her tears stained his shirt or as she babbled incoherent words all that mattered was that she was by his side and he would do all could to protect her, though his future counterpart warning remained ingrained in his mind.

'Don't make the same mistakes'

Future Rogue wasn't a bad guy, Erza and Gray defeated the Smoker and Wendy defeated Hoshino.

Stay tuned for the next chapter where Rissy must come to terms with watching Rogue die, Rinan departs and future seems like a nice place to be.
