The humming of the engines filled Klaus' ears and he had to close his eyes and concentrate in order to shut it out. Beside him was Caroline, her chest moving steadily up and down and with closed eyes as she had fallen asleep.

Her head was turned towards him and he couldn't help but notice how serious she looked in her sleep. As if she was thinking hard about something important. A small frown appeared on Caroline's forehead and her hand moved closer to his on the armrest between them.

He looked down on her hand, wondering if he could touch it without waking her up. He could almost feel the softness of her skin just by looking at it and a smile appeared on his face as he remembered what had happened between them on their first night in Seville.

With closed eyes he remembered the feeling of her lips on his, how her legs had been wrapped around him and the way she had looked at him with so much hunger in her eyes. For a short moment, he also felt the regret that had surged through him as soon as he had left her hotel room. He had almost turned on his heels to re-enter the room but then he had remembered the look in Caroline's eyes and closed his own door behind him.

Caroline's eyes might have been hungry and lustful but they had also been slightly vacant. As if her body wanted to continue what they were doing but her mind couldn't quite catch up. He wasn't going to let it be something she regretted later and he had felt it as much as he had seen it that she weren't ready… yet.

As the stewardess announced their landing over the speakers, Klaus opened his eyes and looked at Caroline once more. Then he grabbed her hand and squeezed it lightly to wake her up.

"Caroline." Klaus called in a low voice and the frown on her forehead disappeared. He gave her hand another squeeze, enjoying the feeling of her skin against his and this time her eyelids fluttered as if she struggled to open her eyes.

A couple of seconds later, Caroline slowly opened her eyes and for a moment she didn't seem to know where she was. Then her eyes focused on his and he noticed how they lit up as she finally seemed to wake up completely.

"We'll be landing in ten minutes time." Klaus told her and she just nodded before she turned her head to look out of the window. Klaus leaned back in his seat with a sigh, looking forward to getting ground beneath his feet and escape the constant noise of the engines.

He didn't notice how Caroline had brought her free hand in front of her mouth in an attempt to hide her smile and that she wasn't remotely interested in looking at the cloud they were descending through. Neither did he feel the eyes of the Bennett witch on him as she stared at the hand that was still encasing Caroline's from the other side of the hall.

Caroline dropped her bags on the bed with a sigh before opening the doors to the balcony, letting the cool November air clear her mind. So much had happened in the last few days that Caroline had a hard time wrapping her head around it.

She had been to Spain with Klaus and she had been close to sleeping with him. A smile made its way to her lips as she thought of how he had held her hand on the plane. It had felt much better than she had expected and Caroline suddenly felt the blood rise to her cheeks as she involuntary thought about how it would be to kiss him again.

She immediately shook her head as the thought crossed her mind and instead took her time alone to think about what Lucy had said. Caroline still wasn't sure why Lucy needed her but if she had understood the witch properly, Caroline's life would soon change forever. Caroline wasn't sure that she was ready for such a responsibility or that she ever would be but Lucy had explained that Caroline was the only one that the witch would trust with this.

What a pair we would make, Klaus and I.

Once again Caroline had to shake the thought of Klaus out of her head. As she turned around to re-enter her hotel room, she had to suppress a yelp of surprise as she saw Marcel stand in front of her next to her bed. Klaus had warned her that Marcel would visit soon after she'd arrived in her room but his sudden presence still sent shivers down her spine.

"Marcel. You surprised me."

"I see that. I just wanted to make sure that my favourite spy had had a good trip." Marcel said as he walked closer to her with a toothless smile on his face.

"So I am your favourite now? How exciting." Caroline said with a voice that sounded genuinely excited and a flirting smile. She received a wide grin in return and now he was only standing a couple of feet away.

"Did you manage to do as I asked?" Marcel asked with a low voice and lowered his face toward hers.

"Well, sort of." Caroline said, realising that she had actually done exactly what he had asked without meaning to.

"Sort of?" Marcel asked with raised eyebrows.

"I definitely made him interested but Klaus is extremely distrustful. I need more time if I'm going to get anything from him." Caroline said, hoping Marcel would buy it and that way give her more time away from him and more time with Klaus.

Caroline watched how irritation crossed his face momentarily but then he seemed to reason, knowing what she said most likely was the truth. Klaus Mikaelson rarely trusted anyone. He was even suspicious towards his own family. At last he nodded and then moved around her, out on the balcony.

"Then I think I will go visit my friend Klaus. Just to see how much of an impact you have made."

Before Caroline could answer, Marcel was gone and she quickly pulled out her phone, realising she hadn't told Klaus of Marcel's plans with her. The phone rang twice before Klaus answered and Caroline hoped that Marcel wasn't there already.

"Caroline." his voice rang in her ears and a small smile fought its way to her lips as he spoke her name.

"Hi."

"What can I do for you?"

"Well, I just called to… uhm… warn you."

"About?"

"Uhm… Marcel was just here and now he's…" Caroline started before being interrupted.

"What did he do? Did he hurt you?!" Klaus said with a cautious voice.

"No no no, I'm fine! But there is something I need to tell you."

"And what is that, love?"

"Marcel is coming to see you and he sort of has the impression that I tried to seduce you while we were in Spain." Caroline said hesitantly, knowing how wrong it sounded given what had happened.

"I see. And how did he get that impression?" Klaus asked patiently and slightly confused.

"Because I told him."

"Caroline, love, can we please get to the point? Marcel is already here, waiting for me." Klaus said with a hushed voice.

"Of course… Well, before we left, Marcel told me that I needed to seduce you and learn your weaknesses to earn his trust. So I told him that I had sparked your interest but that I needed more time so it won't be suspicious that I'm with you even after this whole Silas thing is over. So if you could act like I've made some sort of impact on you then he won't get suspicious." Caroline rambled, barely taking time to breathe.

"Oh, I don't think that will be a problem, love." Klaus said with an almost teasing voice, making Caroline curse herself as she blushed.

"Okay… That was it. See you." Caroline quickly said, hoping to escape the awkward conservation they were having.

"Caroline! Why didn't you tell me about this before? When we were in Spain?" Klaus asked, preventing her from hanging up.

"Because I don't want you to think that…" Caroline couldn't get the words out when she realised what she was about to say and for a second she thought about just hanging up on him.

"Think what, love?" Klaus asked with an insistent voice.

"That what happened was because of Marcel." Caroline almost breathed out.

For a long moment none of them said a word but Caroline could almost hear him smile through the phone and for some reason it made her smile too. She knew that he knew what she was talking about and hoped he believed her words.

"Consider me warned." Klaus finally said, making Caroline exhale loudly as she realised that she had held her breath.

"Well, then I'll just leave you to it… Be careful." Caroline added with a serious voice.

A low chuckle escaped from Klaus and Caroline rolled her eyes before removing the phone from her ear and hanging up. He had way too much confidence for his own good.

Caroline had barely put her phone back in her pocket, when it began to vibrate again. She looked down on the unknown number and hesitantly answered the call.

"Hello." said the voice in the other end, startling Caroline. Hayley was the last person she ever expected to receive a call from.

"Hello..." Caroline almost asked as she had no idea what else to say.

"We need your help." Hayley said with an urgent voice, making Caroline more alert.

"For what?"

"Marcel is here and he can't know about Henrik. We have to get him out of the house before Marcel hears him." Hayley whispered with a fearful voice, clearly afraid for the safety of her child.

"What can I do?" Caroline quickly answered. As much as she disliked the werewolf girl, she couldn't let an innocent child get hurt. Especially not Klaus' innocent child.

"Elijah will be there in a moment with him so you just have to keep the doors to your balcony open so he can get in quickly." Hayley replied in a low voice.

"Okay. I'll be waiting for him."

"And Caroline? If anybody as much as crumble a hair of my son while he's with you, I will snap your neck." Hayley said with a humourless voice. Caroline had to force down a chuckle but a smile spread across her face.

That's the spirit.

"Hayley, if anybody touches your son, I will kill them myself. Even if it's Marcel." Caroline said with a serious voice.

"Thank you." was all Hayley said and then Caroline hung up.

In that same moment, Elijah wooshed into her room, the baby in his arms and Caroline quickly closed the balcony doors behind him. The child started crying and Caroline nervously looked out through the glass of the balcony doors.

"Won't any of Marcel's spies hear and see us?" Caroline asked without taking her eyes of the roof on the opposite side of the street.

"Rebekah is taking care of that." Elijah replied without taking his eyes of the crying baby. Caroline noticed a cunning smile on Elijah's lips and couldn't help but smile herself at the thought of Rebekah, who was probably highly unsatisfied of being bodyguard… again.

Slowly the baby stopped crying and Elijah placed him on Caroline's bed from where he stared at his uncle with wide eyes. Elijah sat on the bed beside the baby and Caroline couldn't help but think that Elijah probably was the father that Henrik would never have.

The room was silent for a couple of minutes and Caroline got lost in her thoughts while she looked outside of the balcony doors.

"I hear your trip to Spain was productive." Elijah said, ripping Caroline from her somewhat sad thoughts and unwillingly making her blush. She immediately saw that Elijah had noticed her blushing but all he did was to avert his eyes to the boy beside him.

"Yeah, Lucy was surprisingly quick to agree to help us." Caroline said, looking out of the balcony doors.

"And my brother wasn't intolerable?" Elijah said with a slightly amused glimpse in his eyes as he looked at Caroline again. She felt her cheeks heathen up once more and this time a small smile appeared on Elijah's lips.

"No, he was… nice. Surprisingly." Caroline answered genuinely, making Elijah's smile widen slightly. Caroline was actually surprised by Klaus' behaviour in Spain. There was the one time with Lucy where he might had overreacted a bit but she still had a hard time understanding how human he had been the rest of the time. She wasn't sure what she had expected before leaving with him but it definitely wasn't that.

"I am glad to hear it." Elijah said and then a serious expression crossed his face. "Caroline, I-"

Elijah was interrupted by the vibration of the phone in Caroline's pocket. She sent him a look that told him to-hold-that-thought and quickly withdrew her phone and answered. It was Hayley.

"I think he's coming back. Marcel is coming to talk you again." Hayley was clearly panicking and it didn't help Caroline to keep her cool. Caroline didn't answer and just hung up, quickly ordering Elijah to grab the boy on the bed. She rushed them into her bathroom, closing the door after her.

"Okay… Marcel is coming back. So you stay in here and I'll distract him, okay? I'll make him leave quickly. Just keep Henrik quiet." Caroline quickly said and began taking her clothes off as she had an idea.

"How am I suppose…" Elijah trailed off when he saw Caroline remove her boots and there after pull her blouse over her head. "Caroline, what are you doing?"

"I'm creating a distraction. Can't you just compel him to keep quiet?" Caroline said as she moved to take her pants off. She had to hide a smirk when Elijah didn't seem to be able to take his eyes of her and before pulling down her pants, she sent him a look that made him turn around.

"I don't think Hayley will condone of me compelling her son." Elijah said, making Caroline roll her eyes.

"Look, Hayley isn't here and I promise that I won't tell. Besides, don't you think she'll rather let you compel her son than let Marcel know that he exists?" Caroline said before she pulled down the showerhead and turned on the water to make her hair wet.

She then heard how Elijah silently told the boy to keep quiet before she grabbed a towel from a rack and began ruffling her hair with it. She was standing only in her underwear, ready to leave the bathroom as soon as she heard Marcel enter her room.

"And not a word about this to Klaus, okay?" Caroline said to Elijah with a firm voice as she pointed at him. He turned around to look at her once more and Caroline noticed how his eyes quickly roamed over her body before he looked her in the eyes.

"I wouldn't dare." Elijah said and a moment after they both heard someone enter her room as the balcony doors opened from the outside. Caroline sent Elijah a quick glance and he nodded at her. For some reason she couldn't help but wink at him before she stepped out of the bathroom with the towel in her hand.

"Marcel." was all Caroline said as she exited the bathroom closing the door with her foot. She watched his face closely and saw how surprised he was to see her half-naked without making any motion to cover herself up. Then a wide grin spread across his face as his eyes glided over her body and seemed to stay there.

Caroline was feeling highly uncomfortable but tried hard not to show it to him by letting him look at her. Then she slowly moved towards her suitcase on the bed, knowing that Marcel was looking at her behind. She pretended to search for something to wear as she realised that Marcel still hadn't said a thing. The man who seemed to always have some snide comment was left speechless and Caroline couldn't help but smile.

"I thought you were with Klaus?" Caroline said, breaking the silence. She then found a burgundy coloured top that hugged her body, making her breast seem larger than they were.

"I was." Marcel finally said with an almost hoarse voice. "But then I remembered that I'd forgotten to invite you to a little event tonight."

Caroline looked at him with her head tilted to the side in an attempt to look curious. She then returned to her suitcase, pulling out a pair of black skinny jeans that she slowly put on.

"Come to St Phillip Street and Chartres Street at seven and I'll show you how I run this town." Marcel continued and moved closer to her. Caroline had – thankfully – all of her clothes on but still felt naked in front of him.

"Don't you think Klaus will be suspicious if I am seen with you?"

"He will be there too." Marcel said and Caroline looked at him, confused. How did that make anything better? After a short moment Caroline nodded and Marcel grinned. He let his eyes glide down her body once more before he leaned forward to whisper in her ear.

"And you should definitely wear that." Then Marcel was gone and Caroline felt her hands tremble. She quickly entered the bathroom, not giving herself any more time to think of Marcel. Elijah looked at her with a weird expression in his eyes, making Caroline confused for a moment.

Is that worry I see? From Elijah Mikaelson?

"Caroline…" he began but Caroline just shook her head, making him stop.

"I'm fine. He just really gets under my skin in a very bad way. But I'm fine." Caroline said and sat down on the closed toilet seat. Her hands were still trembling and Elijah clearly noticed.

"Can I hold him?" Caroline asked, looking at Henrik, who was completely still in Elijah's arms. The Original vampire slowly moved towards her and placed the boy in her arms gently. She immediately felt herself calm down and she looked down on the little boy with a smile on her face.

"You don't have to be quiet anymore." Caroline compelled Henrik, making him blink once of what looked like surprise. Caroline couldn't help but chuckle and her smile became even wider.

After five minutes she stood up and placed the boy in Elijah's arms again.

"Don't you think the coast is clear now?" Caroline asked and peeked out from the bathroom door. She exited the bathroom with Elijah behind her and then moved out on the balcony to look at the nearby rooftops.

"Thank you, Caroline. For helping our family." Elijah said with so much gratitude in his voice that Caroline spun around, surprised, and shot him a smile.

"No problem. You're helping me so I might as well return the favour. Besides, how could I let someone even lay a finger on that cute boy. He is positively the most adorable thing I've ever seen." Caroline said and placed a kiss on Henrik's forehead.

"And you are okay? I can call Niklaus for you or my sister?" Elijah said, uncertain of what to do and say to the shaking blonde in front of him. Caroline quickly shook her head with a small smile on her lips.

"Trust me, I'm fine. But thank you." she said and Elijah nodded. Then he took her hand and placed a quick kiss on it before disappearing with the boy in his arms.

Caroline walked down the street towards the square, where Marcel had told her to meet him, with fast steps. The night was literally crawling with vampires and Caroline felt how the goose bumps snuck up on her as she saw a small gathering in front of her in the middle of the square.

She was wearing the clothes she had put on earlier with a pair of black boots and her black leather jacket. She noticed how several of the male vampires looked at her as she moved towards the large circle the vampires had made around Marcel.

Caroline reached the outskirts of the circle and planned to stay there, when the crowd in front of her suddenly parted, making a way to the middle. She was about to step away, when Marcel caught sight of her and invited her in by lifting his hand towards her. Caroline faked a smile at him and quickly moved through the crowd without looking back as the circle closed around her.

She glanced at the vampires standing around her, receiving jealous looks from some of the women and wanting looks from some of the men. Caroline had to stop the shiver that spread to her whole body as she felt all of their prying eyes on her.

She was about to ask Marcel what was going on, when someone landed right in front of her, making her take step back in surprise. In front of her stood Klaus with a smile on his face and she had to stop herself from smiling widely at the sight of him.

What the hell is happening to me?

"Klaus." Caroline said with a flirting smile on her lips as she sensed Marcel's eyes on her. Klaus took her hand and placed a long kiss on it without taking his eyes from her, making some of the crowd mumble in indignation. They clearly already thought of Caroline as Marcel's girl even though it was the first time most of them saw her.

Then Klaus let his eyes glide over the crowd and Caroline had to hide her smile behind her hand as all of the by standing vampires became silent, a few of them even taking a step back. A smirk appeared on Klaus' face as he went to stand somewhere behind her, halfway towards the middle and halfway towards the circle.

Then another two vampires came out of nowhere, carrying a frightened woman between them. Caroline suddenly got a very bad feeling of what was about to happen and she had to force herself not to look back at Klaus in confusion. The woman was dropped on her knees in the opposite end of the circle from Marcel and Caroline.

Caroline was about to walk over to the crying woman, who was in her mid-twenties, when a voice inside her head told her that she couldn't. Caroline then looked at Marcel as she wanted to ask him what the hell was going on but once again, she was forced to keep quiet.

"Well, well, well… Look who we have here. A dirty little mutt looking for her dirty mutt girlfriend." Marcel said, stepping forward and towards the crying woman.

"Where is she? What have you done to Cassie?" the woman managed to yell through her tears.

"You see, Nina, your little girlfriend didn't knew the rules. I even warned her, gave her chance to disappear but she had to fight back. So we did to her what we are now going to do to you. You two will be a nice example of what happens when you waltz into my city, thinking that the rules don't apply to you. Because they sure as hell do, sweetheart." Marcel said, his voice getting higher for every sentence until he in the end was yelling at her.

Oh my God, he's going to kill her. She is going to die right here and now.

Caroline tried stepping forward again but for some unknown reason she was frozen in her place. She could suddenly sense Klaus behind her, standing close enough for her to feel herself calming down. At least Klaus wouldn't let Marcel kill the girl, would he?

The whole of Caroline's body stiffened as she heard his name come from Marcel's lips and she tried desperately to catch his eyes as Klaus moved past her and towards Nina.

"Klaus, old friend, will you do me the honour? Werewolves are after all you area of expertise." Marcel said with a mischievous grin on his lips. Then Marcel looked at Caroline and she realised why he really wanted Klaus to do it. Somehow, he had become jealous and now he was showing her that he was the one in charge and that he had the power to boss the great Klaus Mikaelson around.

Marcel went to stand beside Caroline again as she watched in horror how Klaus made the girl stand up and compelled her to keep quiet. There was absolutely nothing Caroline could do as she was unable to both move and speak, and with Marcel's eyes on her, she couldn't even look away.

When Klaus jammed his hand inside the girl's chest and extracted her heart, the reaction inside of Caroline was so strong that a single tear found its way down her otherwise emotionless face. The girl fell hard to the ground and Klaus dropped the bleeding heart beside her.

Caroline felt the nausea rise in her throat when the crowd began cheering and she saw Klaus shoot an emotionless glance at the woman he had just killed.
