139. I've Never Seen You Cry
He'd never seen her cry:
not when they'd fallen in love,
not when they'd married,
not when she found out she was pregnant
and a new addition to their family
was on the way
She'd cried when he left,
into his pillow, when he wasn't there,
but not when he'd returned,
grovelling for forgiveness
though she'd been angry and sad
and hexed him with oblivion
But she did cry, openly, when she saw him fall
and his eyes dim as they locked with hers.
That was the last thing he saw
for the first time
her tears, falling without repent
because he was dying there
and it was too late to stop Death
once the door was opened.
