147. When They Fell
They were always together, side by side
but never fighting,
just there,
together
They wondered why,
why it felt so natural
to sit together,
to laugh together,
even to change together
His neck half torn apart
and hers with deep teeth
before the dead weight slumped
upon her chest
And they changed together too,
becoming hated monsters together
starved for human blood
but far more sane
together
And they'd change back together
in the mornings with their limbs
aching with last night's strain
and their minds renewed
and they'd share a tender kiss
and lie down to heal
together.
It seemed
that they would always be together
and they sometimes wondered why,
but often, it was too natural to care
otherwise.
