He didn't want to fall in love with her;
he shouldn't; she was already promised
to someone else
But he really couldn't help it; she was so full of fire
he burnt himself each time he went too close
(but that wasn't incentive enough
to stay away)
and he wished it were, because every time he saw
her fire, he found himself further trapped,
Hypnotised like a butterfly
wrought in flame, and he was the butterfly
and she the flame
that pulled him so enticingly in
And he had to pretend to be a jerk,
pretend to be in love with other women
so she wouldn't fall in love with him as well
Because she was promised to someone else
and he wouldn't be the one to snatch her away
from a friend.
