As Emma made her way to the dining hall a thousand memories came flooding back to her. All the time she had spent here as a child, the good times she had with Regina. Every time she thought of a good memory a bad one would come flooding in as well. She hated once hated it here and loved it.
When she walked in it looked just like it always had. There was Henry and Regina, and the servant by the door. it was as if she were a child again.
When she remembered how big Henry had gotten she was reminded of Regina. She had done this to them, turned them into something they were not. Emma suddenly felt like she could vomit.
When Regina saw Emma she said " i see you made it."
Emma ignored her and went and sat with Henry who was on the left side if the table. She smiled widely at him but he didn't say anything. Emma suddenly felt a enormous rock creep up in her heart. He didn't remember her, not as a grown woman. Emma turned toward him and said " my name is Emma."
Henry looked up at her with big eyes as he said "i knew someone named Emma before, she was my sister."
Emma remembered how they had been brother and sister while she was little and she said " i am that Emma, i was big like now but someone turned me small. But i am big again."
Henry looked confused, he might of had a big boy body but he was definitely not as mature as he looked. After a moment of silence he said " why did you leave me, you were my best friend."
Regina decided to but into the conversation then and she said " i could ask her the same question Henry, why did she feel the need to run off and leave her family behind."
Emma shot Regina a evil look as she said " you know why i left Regina, don't make me look like the bad guy."
Regina rolled her eyes as she said "you are, what do they have that i don't. i gave you love, shelter, anything you could ever want and you through it all away for them."
Emma laughed as she said " you gave me those things yes, but you gave me something much worse. You're a horrible woman, you don't deserve me. Or Henry."
Regina stood up angry as she said " go to your room, i don't want to see your face."
Emma didn't move a muscle as she said " i'm not a kid anymore, you don't control me. i will leave when i am done talking with Henry."
Regina hustled out of her chair and stormed out of the dining hall. Emma let out a small exhale as she did this. Regina still scared her, even as an adult.
After a moment Henry said "why did you come back?"
Emma said " i came so you could go, you will be safe there."
Henry shook his head as he said " i am safe here, i am not going to leave mommy. i love her. Unlike you."
Emma tried to take his hand as to comfort him but he quickly moved it away and said "you made her mad, i don't want to talk to you." He stood up and made his way out of the dining room leaving Emma alone in the big dining room. She couldn't believe how difficult this was. Why was she made to feel worthless when it was Regina who was in the wrong.
After a couple minutes Emma stood up as well and made her way back to her room. She wished there was some way she could speak to her parents. She knew they would know what to do, they always did.
Emma removed her clothes and dressed in the silky pajamas that a servant girl had left her.
Emma didn't go to sleep though, instead she put in her slippers and made her way down the hall and to Regina's chambers. She knew the only way she was going to stop all of this was talking to Regina. Even though she would much rather not, she needed to. She needed to because of her family and her sanity.
When she knocked Regina told her to come in. She was on her bed, under the covers with a book in her hand. when she saw who it was she said " what do you want."
Emma said " i think we should talk." Regina didn't look up from her book. Emma felt like leaving and forgetting all about it but instead she sat on the lounge chair that was across from the bed and said " i know you love me Regina, but reality is even though you want to be my mother you are not. i already have parents, and so does Henry. You have to let me go, it isn't right for you to keep me here. This isn't about you or them it's about me, i belong with them and deep down i think you know that."
it was silent, Regina didn't speak at all. instead she closed her book and motioned Emma toward her. Emma stood up and made her way and sat on the bed next to Regina who took her hand and said " i understand what your saying dear, but when you left i felt so hollow. i can't let you go, not now. Maybe some day but i can't. i have never loved someone quite as much as i love you. i never thought it was possible, to love the child of my enemy's but it happened and i cannot change that."
Emma said " deep down Regina i love you too, it was hard leaving you when i did as a child. But it had to be done, just as it has to be done this time. i don't belong here."
Regina said " we might not be blood, but i do believe i was destined to be your mother."
Emma shook her head with sadness, Regina wasn't going to give up. Emma was right in the beginning. Once Regina loved something she never let it go.
Emma cleared her throat and said " do you remember when you first got your magic back and you stole Henry back. He was so angry with you, he loved you but he knew he didn't belong with you. He already had a family, he kept on trying to get away but each time you would catch him. it only ruined your relationship further, i don't want that to happen with us, it doesn't have too. You can let me go."
Regina shook her head as she said " i knew i would see him again. i knew he loved me, he would never abandoned me forever."
Emma said "why do we have to be any different, we could still see each other. Like you and Henry."
Regina nodded as she said " you can leave, just not right now. Will you just stay with me a little longer, like it was before."
Emma really didn't want to but she knew that if this was best she could get them it would have to do. She nodded and Regina smiled warmly at her.
After their talk Emma went back to her room and fell on the bed. She couldn't believe what had just happened. She did it, she made Regina see what had been in front of her all along.
Emma thought back to the conversation, Regina she was really letting her go. Emma couldn't help the pain she felt in her heart, she wanted to leave yet she didn't want to hurt Regina. Why did their relationship have to be so complicated. Why did she have to love Regina, this would have been so much easier if she didn't.
