157. Bed Time Tales
They told him stories
of his parents
from long ago.
Stories of how brave they'd been:
lions, the both of them
and warrior she,
a fighter, the both of them
for all that was good and right
and that had shaped their world.
And her wicked humour,
how she'd change her hair
and eyes and face
and make them laugh until
they'd have stitches in their sides
from laughing, and then they'd laugh
some more.
And his pranks, how clever
and devious he was,
how innocent looking
he appeared
yet how much trouble
he could course
below the surface
And how completely they'd loved each other:
how they'd been willing to sacrifice everything
for that love
except their lives together
(and, even though they never said it,
how they'd sacrificed a life with him
to die together.)
