A/N: Poems into Stories Competition, Sonnet 56: Sweet love, renew thy fore. Be it not said, William Shakespeare. No particular character focus here: it's more about all the different high school romances that took place in HP. :D

175. Fleeting Loves

Rare it is to fall in love and lose it
and then find it again, and yet the unblossomed youth
dance too often in such fields, searching for their fill
of love, sweet love: that drunken nectar that burns
once they've had too much, but makes their stale hearts ache
in quieter times.

That is youth, undervaluing, overvaluing, searching
for the true value of things

And sometimes they'll find the first one was the one
that they grew into adulthood with, that still buttered
the bread once the blade had dulled
and stopped the nectar bleed

Because love wasn't something they became drunk after
anymore, once they'd grown, discovered the truth
but the air they breathed: gentle, indistinct
from life and far, far from the hunger that gnawed
at their youth.
