Chapter 23 : You will be lonely here if I go

"What? You again?" Aoki turned her head upon hearing the opened door. There he was, a tall with navy blue hair boy, closing the door. He walked leisurely and pulled the chair to sit next to Aoki's bed.

"What? You don't seem pleased with me," Aomine replied. He basically let his body fell to the chair, head leaned backwards, eyes closed. He folded his arms in front of his chest.

"Of course, all you do is taking a nap here. How could it be fun to see someone sleeping," muttered Aoki.

"Well, it's fun to see a girl sleeping figure," replied Aomine while grinning leery. Aoki frowned before she shouted, "Get out of here, pervert! I'm not a pervert like you who has a habit to keep looking on a sleeping girl!"

"What? You scared that I might attack you while you are sleeping? Don't be ridiculous, Aoki," laughed Aomine, "I don't see any girls hanging around here, in this room particularly."

Aoki was about to throw something on the still-laughed-tanned teen, but she just grumbled slightly and went away with it. She adjusted her body then drifted her glance away to the window. The sun shone very bright that day, with occasionally a light summer breeze flew past the tree, brought the sound of bugs, "Thanks for your compliment, pervert boy," said Aoki, sarcastically.

"Shut up Aoki, the weather outside was so hot, so lucky to have air conditioner here," said Aomine, still closed his eyes. He seemed to enjoy the cool air so much.

"Then let me change the temperature to 30˚ C or above," Aoki tried to get up from her bed. She stretched her hand to the table beside, but before she could reach it, Aomine's eyes snapped open and he catched Aoki's hand in a quick movement.

"Wha~ don't you dare to do that Aoki! Che, how come you want to raise up the temperature when you're such in a bliss here," grumbled Aomine, before he let her hand go, then snatched away the air conditioner remote. He looked to the display screen on the remote. 23˚ C.

"You can't go below than 20 right?" asked Aomine, referred to the temperature of the air conditioner. Aoki nodded, then turned her head away from him.

"Yeah, it would be so troublesome to have cold air here."

"Then how could you manage to go through the winter all this time?" asked the tanned boy again. He straighten his body a bit, curious to know Aoki's answer.

"Well, I don't know. I manage it somehow," replied Aoki quick.

Aomine frowned, then sighed, "This is what makes you do not look like a girl at all. Your reply is not cute at all, how can you just say 'manage it somehow'. I think girls usually come up with pretty long explanation."

Aoki couldn't help but irritated by Aomine's words, but she chose to keep silent. She still looked outside to the window, mouth kept her words in her throat. Aomine then decided to let go off this topic, when suddenly he heard Aoki's mumbled, "It's so painful, I couldn't bear the cold air."

"Sou ka," Aomine still startled by Aoki's answer. He didn't expect that she could say those words, considering that Aoki always act all though and for past few days she kept scolding him, for visiting her everyday without Satsuki and he always spend the time by taking nap lazily.

"Is Satsuki-chan in school again?"

"Yeah, she couldn't skip the basketball practice since she was the manager."

"And you skip it, you lazy boy," said Aoki nonchalantly.

"What, you want to scold me again?"

"Of course, you better get back to your school and had the practice right away! How come a national athlete like you spend your precious time here, taking nap lazily!" Aoki clearly pissed by Aomine's attitude. Aoki just found out couple days ago from Momoi when she brought the requested Basketball Monthly Magazine, and apparently that sport magazine was boasting up about Kiseki no Sedai. Aoki still remember how pissed she was when she found out that Aomine was actually a famous player at national level, but he often skips practice and then he even wanted to skip games as well.

"It's so troublesome," was all the Aomine gave to Aoki as the reply. No matter how much Aoki scolded him to go to the practice, he would never listen to her anyway.

"And you will be lonely here if I go to the practice instead."

Aoki blushed slightly, "What? I'm fine being alone here, after all I'm not alone at all. There are nurses that can help me. Okaasan will get back here shortly after her work is done." Whaaat, am I dreaming? Is he really saying that he actually choose to spend the time with me here, screamed Aoki inside her heart.

Aomine didn't reply again. Instead, he was snoring lightly, sign that he had alredy drift off to sleep. Aoki gave up, instead she straighten up her body, and observed the boy's figure while the boy was sleeping on the chair.

How come he manages to get to sleep in a position like this, thought Aoki. She was observing his face, how his nose was like, how thin his lips was, how sharp his jawlines was, and how soft was his spiky navy blue hair. The same navy blue hair as hers.

"How magic, how could we meet each other and share the same color of hair, while we are not really blood-related at all," said Aoki, still looking to every detail of Aomine's sleeping face. She didn't intend to be a pervert, but she couldn't help but liking how peaceful he was when in sleeping state. He looked much like a kid when he was sleeping.

"Well, I don't mind actually if you are taking nap here. Thank you for your time," smiled Aoki, ebfore she drifted off to sleep as well. A minute later, light snoring also could be heard from the teen girl. Aomine opened his eyes slowly, then get up and brought his body closer to see her sleeping figure.

"Yeah I wonder, we do have the exact same hair color," said Aomine. He unconsciously stroking her soft, short hair, "Yappari, you looked like a boy even when you're sleeping," grinned Aomine, seeing a little drip of saliva in the corner of Aoki's lips. Her snore become a bit louder, and how come she slept with the left hand beside her head, right hand on stomach, and legs wide open like this?

She was so careless, thought Aomine, pulling the blanket over her body, before he got back to the chair.

"Shit, she was really sleeping there. Now I couldn't say thanks again to her," mumbled Aomine. He still haven't thanked here for saving his ass, when Aoki's pleaded to her father, so he and Momoi could visit her in the hospital. He did say thank you, but no one could hear it since he said it inside his heart. And every time he wanted to thank properly, he felt that it wasn't really the right time.

Aomine slumped his body against the chair. He tried to recall the moments when he found Aoki was playing basketball, fighting those delinquents. At that time, Aomine had argued with Aoki, regarding his choice to skip the practices. He had settled the problem there, but few days ago when his childhood friend boasting up again that he still skipped the practices, Aoki tried to bring up that topic again, about what they had argued that night before Aoki collapsed. Aomine managed to change the topic, but it still stuck inside his head.

It's so bothering, thought Aomine. He did want to play basketball alongside his teammates in school. And he wanted to play basketball again with Aoki. But he just didn't know, how to say it after many excuses he had said before to avoid basketball practice.

He just didn't know.
