EJ and Nicole walk off the elevator of the hospital.
EJ
"Ok, so how am I going to get in to see Johnny?"
Nicole
"Just calm down. I got you covered."
Dr. Walters walks up.
Walters
"Well there's my favorite patient."
Nicole
"Dr. Walters, you remember EJ right?"
Walters smiles.
Walters
"Of course. It's nice to see you again Mr. DiMera."
EJ
"You can call me EJ."
Walters
"EJ."
Nicole
"He's the key to you seeing Johnny."
EJ
"How so?"
Nicole
"Well he's the only doctor here that's not related to Sami or Lucas or likes them and doesn't hate me."
EJ
"Ah."
Walters
"Nicole, why don't you wait for me in exam room #3 while I get EJ to Johnny's room?"
Nicole
"Ok. Enjoy."
Nicole walks off.
EJ
"So how are we going to pull this off?"
Walters
"Simple, come with me to my office."
Walters starts walking. EJ follows.
Sami's in Johnny's room checking on him. He's fast asleep. Sami just brushes his hair with her hands. She's interrupted by a knock on the door. She looks over and Rafe walks in. She smiles.
Sami
"Hey."
Rafe
"I hope I'm not interrupting."
Sami
"Nope perfect timing."
Rafe walks up to Sami and hugs her. She tries not to cry, but fails.
Sami
"We could have lost him."
Rafe
"But we didn't."
Sami
"Thanks to Lexie and Lucas."
They stop hugging. Rafe wipes the tears from her eyes.
Rafe
"Yep. And one good thing came out of this. Lucas is Johnny's biological father."
Sami
"Now I can be done with EJ all together."
Sami looks down at Johnny. Rafe seems confused.
Rafe
"You forget about Sydney."
Sami
"Yeah…um…Sydney, it won't be hard to get full custody of her."
Rafe
"Yeah I think you have a great case."
Sami
"Alex thinks so also."
Rafe
"Good."
Sami looks at Rafe and smiles.
Sami
"Yeah"
Outside of Lucas' room, Alex is on the phone with the courts about Sami's custody case as Kate walks up behind her.
Alex
"Yes. We're just petitioning for custody of one kid now. We have proof that Johnny is not EJ DiMera's biological son."
Kate clears her throat. Alex turns and sees Kate.
Alex
"Yes I will talk with you guys tomorrow. Bye."
Alex hangs up.
Kate
"Oh I'm sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt your conversation. It sounded important."
Alex
"It was, but its fine. It's near the end of the work day anyways."
Kate
"Good, so you can spend more time by son's side."
Alex
"I plan on doing so."
Kate
"So why are you out here?"
Alex
"He was taking a nap. So I just left him alone."
Kate
"You really need to stop doing that."
Alex
"Doing what?"
Kate
"Leaving Lucas alone."
Alex
"Why?"
Kate
"Because when you're not here, Sami is. And that's a problem"
Alex
"Um…they're friends and their son is in the hospital. I don't see a problem with them hanging out together. I'm glad that someone can be here when I'm not."
Kate
"I used to like you, but now I'm thinking you're too stupid to be with my son."
Alex
"Excuse me?"
Kate
"How do you think they made Johnny? Obviously they're more than just friends. Wake up."
Alex
"And that's in the past."
Kate
"There's no such thing as the past with Sami Brady. She changes her mind more than she dyes her roots."
Alex
"She's with Rafe. I don't see her trying to get back with Lucas."
Kate
"Are she and Rafe still staying with you two?"
Alex stops and thinks.
Kate
"I thought so."
Alex
"They're looking for a place to live."
Kate
"They would have gotten out a long time ago if that was the case. I think Sami likes being close to Lucas and you and Rafe make it even easier for them to be together since you two work around the clock."
Alex
"We have jobs and I don't feel the need to watch Lucas like a hawk because the mother of his children is staying with us. That's like being paranoid."
Kate
"Lucas has no barriers when it comes to Sami. He would give her anything and would do anything she wants him to do. Damn the consequences. If it means that you are left out, then so be it."
Alex
"You make it seem like Lucas doesn't have much use for me."
Kate
"Well if you don't make yourself useful."
Alex feels hurt.
Kate
"If you don't want Lucas then fine. Keep doing what you're doing. But if you want Lucas, you better do better. Or I'll find someone else who can."
Alex
"Okay, I will."
Kate
"Good girl."
Kate pats Alex on her back.
Kate
"Well I need to go and check on my new grandson."
Kate says all smiles before she walks away. Alex turns and walks into Lucas' room.
Rafe and Sami walk out of Johnny's room. Dr. Walters watches as they walk away. He looks over at EJ who's dressed in scrubs with a mask and hat on.
Walters
"Ok, this is your window. You won't have that long. I have a nurse who's going to be your look out."
EJ
"Ok, thanks."
EJ walks up to Johnny's door. He slowly opens the door and walks in closing the door behind him. He stares at Johnny whose still sleeping. He walks over to his bedside and sits down. He puts Johnny's hand in his.
EJ
"Johnny, I know I shouldn't be here, but I feel the need to see you."
Johnny opens his eyes slowly then looks over at EJ.
Johnny
"Dad?"
EJ
"I'm right here."
Johnny
"Where have you been? I've wanted to see you."
EJ
"I've…I couldn't come to see you."
Johnny
"Why not?"
EJ takes a deep breath.
EJ
"Have your mother and Lucas talked to you about me?"
Johnny
"They said that you were busy."
EJ
"That's all?"
Johnny
"Yep. I asked if you were going to come and see me one day, but they never answered. So why you are here dressed like a doctor?"
EJ
"I have something to tell you, but you can't tell anyone ok?"
Johnny
"Ok."
EJ
"You promise?"
Johnny
"Yes I promise."
They smile at one another.
Dr. Walters walks into exam room #3 to check on Nicole.
Nicole
"Hey doc. Is everything set up for EJ?"
Dr. Walters
"Yep. He's in there with Johnny as we speak."
Nicole
"Great. Thanks again."
Dr. Walters
"Of course. Anything for my favorite patient."
Nicole
"Aww shucks"
Dr. Walters
"Ready for your exam?"
Nicole
"Yes. I want to know if my baby is a boy or girl."
Dr. Walters
"Well let's find out."
Dr. Walters sets up to give Nicole an ultrasound.
Alex is sitting by Lucas' bedside when he opens his eyes. He looks over at her and smiles.
Lucas
"Well hello beautiful."
Alex
"Hey. How was your nap?"
Lucas
"Great, but I'm happy that I get to see you now."
Alex
"I bet. I missed you."
Lucas
"I missed you too."
Alex
"Really?"
Lucas
"Yeah, why wouldn't I?"
Alex
"I don't know. Um…where's Sami?"
Lucas
"She was going to check on Johnny before I went to sleep. I'm sure she's still there."
Alex
"Oh cool."
Lucas
"Are you ok?"
Alex
"Yeah I'm fine."
Lucas
"Are you sure? You seem off."
Alex
"It was stressful day."
Lucas
"Well come here and I'll help relieve some of that stress."
Alex lies in bed next to Lucas. Outside of Lucas' room, Sami and Rafe are about to go in when Rafe gets a call. He looks at the id.
Rafe
"It's work. You go in and I'll be in in a little bit."
Sami
"Ok."
Sami walks in and see Lucas and Alex cuddling.
Sami
"Oh I'm sorry."
They look over at her.
Sami
"I'll come back."
Sami starts to back out.
Lucas
"Don't be silly. Come on in."
Sami
"Ok."
Sami walks back in and closes the door. Alex rolls her eyes.
Sami
"Good to see you Alex."
Alex
"Likewise."
Sami
"So did you hear anything back about Sydney?"
Lucas
"Sami, not now."
Alex
"It's fine. I did hear about it. A decision will be made tomorrow."
Sami
"Good."
Lucas' phone goes off. He picks it up off the table. He looks at the message. Alex and Sami look at him.
Alex
"Is everything ok?"
Lucas
"Yeah. It's cool. Just Will texting me. Um…Sami, could you go in the hall for a moment?"
Sami
"Why?"
Lucas
"Can you just do it?"
Sami
"Fine."
Sami walks into the hall. Alex tries not to smile. She walks over to Lucas.
Alex
"Is everything ok with Will?"
Lucas
"Yeah, I'm just wondering if you can give Sami and me some time to talk about it please."
Alex tries not to get mad.
Alex
"Sure."
Lucas
"Thank you. I'll make it up to you I promise."
Alex
"I'll hold you to that."
Lucas
"Ok."
In the hall, a man walks up to Sami.
Man
"Are you Sami Brady?"
Sami
"Yeah"
Man
"Lucas Horton told me to give this to you."
The man hands Sami an envelope. Sami takes it then hides it when she hears Alex coming out. Alex walks over to Sami
Alex
"Lucas wants to talk to you about Will."
Sami
"Ok thank you."
Alex walks away. Sami rushes into Lucas' room and closes the door.
Lucas
"Did you get it?"
Sami
"Yes"
Sami walks up to Lucas' bed.
Lucas
"Well open it."
Sami opens the envelope and pulls out its contents. She reads them.
Lucas
"So, is Sydney your daughter or Nicole's?"
Sami looks at Lucas.
Back in Johnny's room, EJ and Johnny talk.
EJ
"Ok, the reason I haven't been here to see you is that…we found out that we're…I can't be your father anymore."
Johnny
"Why not?"
EJ
"Because Lucas is going to be your father now."
Johnny
"Allie's dad is going to be my dad now?"
EJ
"Yeah. You like him, right?"
Johnny
"Yeah he's awesome. He buys us ice cream and tells us cool stories."
EJ
"Good, then you'll be happy with him as your dad."
Johnny
"He's cool and all, but he's not you. I want you to be my dad."
EJ
"I want to be your dad too, but I can't. I hope you can understand."
Johnny
"I don't."
EJ closes his eyes and takes a deep breath. He opens them a looks at Johnny with tears in his eyes.
EJ
"I know, but one day you'll understand and I hope you won't hate me."
Johnny
"I could never hate you. You're my dad."
EJ smiles through his tears.
EJ
"Thank you. I have one last thing to say. Be good to your mother and especially to Lucas, ok?"
Johnny
"Ok, I will."
EJ
"I have to go now."
Johnny
"Ok."
EJ kisses Johnny on his forehead before walking towards the door. EJ looks back as Johnny turns over and falls asleep. EJ smiles then opens and walks out the door. He closes it and wipes his eyes. Suddenly, he hears his name. He freezes for a moment then turns around. It's Alex.
Alex
"What are you doing in Johnny's room?"
EJ
"Johnny's room is right here? I didn't know."
Alex
"Yeah you did. You're trying to see him. And why are you dressed as a doctor?"
EJ
"You surely ask a lot of questions."
Alex
"Better me than Sami or Lucas. I'm going to tell them right now."
Alex turns around to walk away, but EJ grabs her arm and turns her back around. She gets nervous.
Alex
"Let go of me."
Alex struggles to get free, but EJ won't let go.
EJ
"Look Alex, you're not going to tell anyone anything because you wouldn't want Lucas to know who you really is…Alessandra Santiago."
Alex freezes.
EJ
"Using your mother's maiden name like that'll change anything. And Alex isn't this that far off from Alessandra. You're not all that bright. Good thing Lucas is an idiot and doesn't know what he's gotten himself into."
Alex
"Don't tell Lucas, please."
EJ
"I won't say anything as long as you keep your mouth such about me seeing Johnny."
Alex
"I won't tell Lucas or Sami or anyone."
EJ lets go of Alex's arm.
EJ
"I'm glad we had this nice little chat. Goodbye Alex."
EJ smiles as we walks away. Alex sighs.
Kate's wrapping up a call. She starts to walk toward Johnny's room, but sees Rafe. She walks over to him as he's checking messages.
Kate
"What the hell are you doing?"
Rafe looks up from his phone confused.
Rafe
"Not that it's any of your business, but I'm checking messages."
Kate
"When you should be putting a leash on your fiancée."
Rafe puts his phone in phone in his pocket.
Rafe
"Ok, I'll bite. What did Sami do this time to piss you off?"
Kate
"Nothing to me, but something to you."
Rafe
"Me?"
Kate
"Always hanging around Lucas. Do you even want to be with Sami?"
Rafe
"Well Sami and Lucas are friends and they have kids."
Kate
"Yes and a long history of getting together and breaking up again and again and again."
Rafe
"Listen Kate, Sami and Lucas aren't getting back together. We're planning our wedding."
Kate
"Oh really, when are you two going to tie the knot?"
Rafe
"We put that on pause to deal with Johnny."
Kate
"Are you sure that's all?"
Rafe
"What are you getting at?"
Kate
"Sami's stalling."
Rafe
"Did she tell you this?"
Kate
"No, but…"
Rafe
"Ok then, we're done here Kate. Bye"
Kate
"You should really listen to me Rafe."
Rafe
"I don't need to hear you diss Sami. I hear enough of it."
Kate
"Well we know Sami better than you do."
Rafe
"I know Sami enough and I would like you to shut up about her."
Kate
"Fine then I'll keep my mouth shut."
Rafe
"Thank you."
Rafe walks away as Kate rolls her eyes.
Kate
"Whatever Rafe. I'll be there to say I told you so."
Back in Lucas' room, Lucas wonders the results of the paternity test.
Lucas
"So, you're going to leave me in suspense?"
Sami stares at the results.
Lucas
"Sami? Hello?"
Sami looks up at Lucas.
Lucas
"What does it say?"
Sami
"Sydney is…she's my daughter."
Sami starts to cry.
Lucas
"See, now aren't you glad you did the test. Now you know the truth."
Sami
"Yeah. Well you need to get some rest and I need to check on Johnny."
Lucas
"But I just had a nap."
Sami
"Stop being a baby."
Sami kisses Lucas on the forehead before leaving his room. She closes the door then leans against the wall and takes a deep breath.
Sami
"Sorry Lucas. I don't want to lie to you, but it's for the best. You, EJ, Nicole, no one can know that Sydney is EJ and Nicole's daughter. They just can't."
EJ walks into Nicole's exam room as she sits on the bed smiling at her baby's sonogram photos.
EJ
"Hello darling."
Nicole looks over at EJ with a big smile on her face.
Nicole
"Hey. How did everything go with Johnny?"
EJ
"I talked to him. He's doing much better."
Nicole
"That is great."
Nicole gets up and hugs EJ. He hugs her back tightly.
Nicole
"Hey, do you want to see pictures of the baby?"
EJ
"Sure."
They stop hugging. Nicole hands EJ one of the pics.
EJ
"Wow."
EJ smiles.
Nicole
"Guess what's in my belly."
EJ
"Um…a baby?"
They laugh.
Nicole
"Duh, but is it a boy or a girl?"
EJ
"I don't know. Tell me."
Nicole and EJ smile at each other.
Nicole
"It's a girl."
EJ
"A girl?"
Nicole
"Yes."
EJ
"I'm happy."
Nicole
"Me too."
EJ pulls Nicole into a hug. They then look into each other's eyes before they kiss. Dr. Walters is checking some files when Dr. Baker walks off the elevator. Baker walks over to him.
Baker
"I'm reporting to duty."
Walters looks up.
Walters
"Nice to see you have decided to work with me."
Baker
"Like I had a choice."
Walters
"I gave you a choice."
Baker
"This is the only choice I had to make."
Walters
"Whatever if that's how you want to put it."
Baker
"That's how it is."
Walters
"Like I said whatever. It's not my fault you couldn't follow the boss' orders and I can."
Baker huffs.
Baker
"So what is it do you want me to do?"
Walters digs into his pockets and pulls out some envelopes and hands them to Baker.
Baker
"What's this?"
Walters
"I want you to deliver them to the right people."
Baker looks at the envelopes.
Baker
"Philip Kiriakis? Shawn Brady? Shawn, that's Hope's son. What is this about?"
Walters
"None of your business. Just do it, ok? And don't screw it."
Baker
"I won't."
Walters
"I have so much faith in you."
Walters tries to say without laughing, but fails. Baker walks over to the elevator as Walters blurts out laughing. Baker shakes his head as the doors close. Walters gains his composer then gets back to work.
