CHAPTER 20

Heaven! That's what it felt like for Haley James. She was finally kissing Nathan Scott for real. All it took was for his lips to land on hers and she was enveloped by that familiar warmness. How she missed this. She was beginning to get heated up when he suddenly pulled back. Haley was surprised by this but not for long as he started showering her face with soft kisses. His hands were cupping her face all this time. All his actions seemed gentle but certain urgency lingered on.

Nathan couldn't believe that she was right there in front of him! He had been so scared by the scene that took place at the school but to see her and hear her assure the doctor that everything was fine was all it took to lose his control and kiss her all over the face. He looked at her beautiful face for a moment and was reminded of how much he loved her. And then he was hugging her. He was trying hard not to squeeze her too hard. "Nathan", he heard her whisper and that's all it took for him to lose all his control and break down in front of her. He finally realised that pushing her away was never the answer to their problems.

"Hey it's okay", she whispered, "I'm okay, everything's gonna be fine". In all the time she had known him, she has never seen him cry. All this was bringing her tears in full flow.

"That's it. I'm stitching our skin together", he joked and he was rewarded with her giggle.

"Ew! Maybe that's a little extreme".

"I heard what you told the doctors but are you sure you're okay"?

Haley almost melted right then and there hearing his concerned voice. "I'm okay the baby's okay, we're all okay", she said with a warm smile.

He sighed with relief at hearing her confirmation. "We have some decisions to make", he said. Haley's body went tense at his request but his hold on her didn't waver and he still had a smile on his face.

"Yeah we do".

He finally pulled away from their embrace but didn't completely let go of her. He wiped his tears with one hand before bringing it back around her waist. "Let's get you out of here first", and he flashed his charming smile at her and that's all it took for her to eagerly nod in agreement.

The duo entered her home. It used to be our home she thought bitterly. This place held so many memories for them. Mostly good ones but the bad ones surfaced through her mind making her uneasy to be here again with him.

Nathan was feeling the same too. This happened to be the only place he would call home and yet the worst time of his life was spent in these confined walls. "So where did Brooke go?" he asked for conversation's sake. He met her at the hospital when she came by to deliver a change of clothes for Haley.

"She's at Lucas'. She's gonna spend the night there", she responded awkwardly. A very uncomfortable silence lingered on until Nathan had enough of it.

"Haley-", he began but was cut off immediately.

"I understand if what happened at the hospital was just you being caught in the moment", it hurt like hell to say it but she couldn't take it if he was just going to pretend that the moment at the hospital didn't happen.

"Is that what you think", he whispered. He couldn't believe she thought like that. He wouldn't blame her but it still hurt to know what she thought. He slowly walked up to her until there were only a few inches between them. "Haley", he placed his hand along the side of her face, "what happened at the school was the worst experience of my life. I never want to come this close to losing you", he had tears in his eyes by this time.

She couldn't take it anymore. The event of the day was getting to her. Before she could stop herself, she threw her body against him, hugging him so tightly like her life depended on it. He held her back but a little more light, scared to hurt their unborn baby between them. They weren't sure how long they stood in this position but soon enough, Nathan starting kissing her neck. He trailed kisses up her neck, to her face until he reached her lips. He kissed her with all the passion and love that he held for this girl and she kissed him back just as so. Before long their shirts were off.

Slowly and reluctantly Nathan broke apart from her lips. Haley was a little confused at first but was reassured when he immediately picked her up bridal style and carried her to her bedroom. Nathan knew they wouldn't have any problem doing it right there on the couch if it wasn't for Haley's condition. They had to be a lot more careful for their little one. He placed her on the bed before joining her and covering her body with his. He trailed kissed down her body until he reached her belly. He stopped there, just caressing the area where a small bump was present.

"I still can't believe this is real", he whispered before kissing her belly. Haley smiled at this. They never really got to enjoy such a moment and it almost brought tears to her eyes.

His kisses trailed lower until he reached the waistband of her jeans. He pulled it off her and just gazed at the wonderful girl before him she was absolutely gorgeous and he felt his heartbeat increase and also his pants tightening a little.

Haley was feeling self conscious suddenly. She knew how different her body looked right now.

"Don't" he ordered, "you look gorgeous". He knew that she was having doubts about her appearance and he wanted her to put that away. He started kissing her again while his hands roamed everywhere. The rest of their clothes came off while he kept kissing and caressing her until she couldn't take it anymore.

"Nathan please I need you... inside", she said breathlessly. That was all it took for him to lose all his control.

"Are you sure about this?" he asked one last time. When she nodded in reassurance, he kissed her once more before joining their bodies in a slow long thrust. Nathan maintained a slow and torturous pace throughout their love-making. He wanted it to last as long as possible. But that was becoming a hard task considering it's been so long since they've done this. Haley urged him to go fast to which he readily complied. Finally they couldn't keep it anymore as they rode out their waves of pleasure together.

...

It's been an hour since she woke up. She woke up at five a.m. but couldn't go back to sleep. They did it five times last night. She wasn't surprised considering it's been so long. They probably would have done it more if it wasn't for her pregnancy making her easily tired. She should have slept like a baby considering the events that took place last night but her worries got the best of her. Haley looked over at Nathan who was sleeping beside her. He looked really cute sleeping on his front with his mouth slightly open and his hair all messy. He had his arm around her waist and the other one was tucked under his pillow. She was again reminded how much she loved this guy which was what that worried her. She was worried that he would wake up and take back everything that he said last night. She didn't want this moment to be taken away from her.

She had so many questions running through her mind. Most of them revolved around Peyton. Finally she couldn't bear with the silence anymore. She wanted to get out of the house. Haley tried to get away from his grasp by trying to move his arm but he just tightened his hold on her. She tried to slip away from under him but his hold was too strong. And then she tried to replace her body with her pillow under his arm when she heard his voice.

"What do you think you're doing?"

Haley jumped a little at hearing his voice. I thought he was asleep. She turned around to see his eyes open and he had an amused look on his face. "I was just going to make breakfast", she said unconvincingly.

"No you weren't", he stated, "you better not be thinking of running away again". The thought literally made his heart ache. He couldn't go through that again.

"No no", she quickly reassured him, "I wasn't going to run, I was just..." she paused as she tried to get the right words out.

"You were just... what?" he asked, "what's on your mind Haley?" he asked softly as he placed a lock of her hair behind her ear and kissed the spot.

"I keep thinking about you and Peyton", she rushed out.

Nathan took a deep breath. He knew this was coming and he wanted to explain everything but he didn't know how to do it without making Peyton look like the bad guy. Also he hoped to God that Haley won't run away again hearing his explanation. "What happened between me and Peyton was just a misunderstanding", he started to say, "it wasn't meat to happen but it did".

Haley could literally feel her heart breaking. She didn't want to continue this conversation but she knew it was inevitable. "What did you do?", she whispered as a singly tear slipped from her eye.

"I didn't do anything I swear", he rushed out, "Haley", he said as she tried to get off the bed but he held her back, "it was just one kiss and it wasn't supposed to happen".

"Then why did it happen?", she asked with tear-filled eyes.

"She was going through some horrible things and I was there", he tried to explain, "And I guess she just lost her mind for a second", he finished off lamely.

Haley scoffed. "And I guess you really enjoyed her loss of judgement didn't you?", she tried to get away again but he held onto her tightly.

"I didn't kiss her back! And I pushed her away", he said defensively, "unlike you I actually know how to stay loyal", he said before he could stop himself. He closed his eyes when he realised what he had said. The sight before him when he opened his eyes broke his heart. She looked so shattered at that moment and he just wanted to take her in his arms and comfort her but she moved away quickly and he let her.

"You should go", she said as she got up from the bed taking the sheets with her to cover her naked body.

"Haley come on", he said as he got off the bed and pulled on his boxers, "I didn't mean it".

"Yeah you did. I knew you haven't gotten over that stuff I knew it but you insisted last night that everything was fine", by this time she was shouting.

"Everything was fine until you brought up Peyton into it", he shouted back at her.

"Don't you dare defend her", she pointed a finger at him.

"She made a mistake, she knows it", he said.

Haley paused for a moment trying to stop the urge to cry. "Can you please leave", she said in a small voice.

"I'm not leaving until we talk this out", he said as he looked away from her.

"Please", she said once more. Nathan looked at her again and he knew that she was trying hard not to break down in front of him. There used to be a time when she was not afraid to show him her weak side and that thought hurt him. I guess I have myself to blame for that, he thought bitterly.

"Fine", he reluctantly agreed before he started picking up his clothes.

Haley walked into the other room to get dressed herself. Once they were both done they walked into the living room. Nathan walked up to the door but stopped in front of it and turned around to look at her. "I'll be back. We have to talk this out", he said, "until then please try not to run away and... I'll call you". She didn't move from her place and she still looked like she was trying hard to control her tears. He walked over to her and kissed her head sweetly before opening the door and leaving. How did thing get so messed up in twenty four hours? he thought. But he knew that he was going to make things right. He wasn't going to let her get away easily this time.

And what do you think? So yeah they are having a bit of a tiff but it's just a means to get back together. After all they have been through a rocky road and remember they are not married like in the show so even if they get back together there is a question if they are going to live together again.
