"The tomato bastard's been acting weird recently…" Lovino muttered as he sat on the couch watching TV. It was now March and their birthday was the very next day. "No fucking idea why though…. And around our damn birthday too…"
"Veh, I'm sure it's nothing, fratello," Feliciano comforted. "Luddy's been acting really weird too. I'm sure it's nothing and they'll be back to normal soon."
"Or they had their fucking brains taken out by aliens if you listen to burger bastard."
"I thought you told me I'm not suppose to listen to Alfred because he tells funny stories that might give me bad ideas and make me do something stupid," the younger of the two commented, wondering if maybe he should start listening to the merman.
"You're NOT," Lovino retorted with an eye roll. "It was a moment of fucking stupidity on my part. So don't go listening to that bastard, got it?"
"Oh. Okay~!" The two went back to watching the show, neither noticing Romulus peeking around the doorway at them. The elder Italian smiled brightly, then quickly snuck upstairs to wrap the twins' presents. The boys had a bad habit of trying to enter his room whenever he was trying to wrap their presents.
Lovino paused then glared over at the doorway. "… Nonno was just there watching us. I smelled the old bastard. He's fucking wrapping something and doesn't want to get caught."
Feliciano laughed. "Let's give him a break this time, si?" he suggested. "We always try to go in his room about now. Let's leave him to his wrapping this time."
Letting out a loud huff, Lovino leaded back and grumbled. "Ugh… Fine, dammit… I'll just go look later."
"Why do you want to look? You'll find out tomorrow when nonno gives them to us to open," he pointed out. "Doesn't trying to see what it is before it's wrapped kinda defeat the entire point of wrapping them to start with?"
"Because it keeps nonno on his toes and the bastard needs it! And… Well…. U-Uh….. It's FUN to try, alright!?"
"Ha ha~! I know, Lovi. I was just asking~."
"Whatever, dammit," Lovino muttered then stood up. "Fine. I'm going to sneak and find out what the old bastard's doing. Stay here if you want to."
"Loooovvvviiiii. Leave nonno alooooooone," Feliciano whined. He pounced on his twin, knocking them both back into the recliner. Luckily, the massive chair was both stable and incredibly cushiony, meaning neither was hurt by the impact, though Lovino was now trapped against the soft fluff and his brother.
"D-Dammit, Feliciano! Get the hell off me right now!"
"You have to leave nonno alone right now!"
"It's not like I'm going to fucking do anything! Get off!"
"Just let him wrap in peace! We're watching this now! Whatever this show thing you have on is called!"
"See! SEE! You don't fucking know what the damn show is! Now let me up!" Lovino exclaimed as he continued trying to get back up.
"It's called the thing with the thing!" Feliciano shot back, pinning his twin down. "It's about a thing that happens to a guy that makes other things happen to other guys! THERE! PLOT!"
"The hell it is!"
"It totally is!"
"Get the fuck off or I'll bite you!"
"You're just jealous you can't think of such a great plot so fast!"
The argument slowly grew more and more ridiculous until, finally, the two were laughing to hard at each other's stupidity to try and even pretend they were annoyed at the other. Feliciano sat up, letting Lovino go.
"Still not a fucking plot, dumbass," Lovino laughed as he got up. "Make up a REAL one and we'll see."
"Veh, maybe that could be something we do on our day next week?" Feliciano suggested. "Make up a plot for something or watch a show and come up with a better plot than the one they have? We could do character voices~." He said the last part as though it were a huge deal breaker, grinning at his twin.
Lovino rolled his eyes. "Ugh… Fine, I guess we can do that."
Feliciano's eyes lite up. "Really!?"
"Si… BUT," Lovino said as he held up his finger. "On one fucking condition. I'm going to bug the old man and YOU don't get in my damn way right now. Got it?"
The younger crossed his arms, pouting. He wanted to say yes, but at the same time, he wanted to give there grandfather a bit of piece for once. "B-But... the show..." he argued weakly, gesturing vaguely to the television.
"Nope. That's my fucking condition dammit. Take it or leave it."
However, before Feliciano could voice his answer, Romulus bounced up behind the couch, greeting them cheerfully. "First time I've ever been able to wrap your presents without one of you trying to sneak a peek~! Thanks, boys~!"
Lovino cursed then started smacking Feliciano with a nearby pillow. "Are you fucking kidding me?! We missed the chance this year, dumbass!"
Feliciano squealed, quickly covering his head to protect himself. "I-I'm sorry!" he cried. "Mi dispiace, mi dispiace!"
"Dammit you!"
Romulus laughed. "Come now, Lovi. Leave your brother alone. Hopefully this year, you'll actually be surprised by your gifts rather than already knowing what they are~!" he said, lightly patting the elder of the two on the back.
"Ugh… Dammit…" Lovino grumbled then tossed the pillow away.
"Wonderful~! Now, I'm going to make lunch for you two, so don't leave at least until you've eaten~!" Then their grandfather turned and skipped into the kitchen, leaving them alone again.
"Veh veh, nonno is in a really good mood~!" Feliciano observed.
"Bastard's hiding something…" Lovino muttered.
"Well, yeah!" he agreed. "He's hiding what our presents are."
Lovino frowned as he glanced into the kitchen then started to inch his way over to the stairs.
"Lovi? Where are you going?" Feliciano asked, getting up and following after him. "Are you doing something cool? Can I go with you? Can I be cool too? What are we doing? Where are you leading me?"
"I'M not leading you anywhere, dammit," Lovino retorted. "YOU'RE the one following me! And what do you think I'm fucking doing?! I'm finding those damn presents so stay quiet!"
"But why? Why do we always see what they are before we get them? What's the point?" Feliciano continued, plodding along after his twin. "It'll make nonno sad if we unwrap everything before we're suppose to. Why can't we just leave them alone for a few more hours?"
"I'm NOT going to open the damn things right now, dumbass," Lovino said with a eye roll. "The point is to just FIND the damn things and rub it in nonno's face that we found them."
"Oooooooh~! Okay~!" Feliciano chirped.
"Well? You going to help or not?"
"Si si~! I'll help~!"
"Then keep quiet, dumbass!"
"Veh~!"
Lovino groaned and facepalmed as he slipped into Romulus's room.
Feliciano followed him, snorting softly every now and then thanks to repressing his giggles.
Lovino rolled his eyes then started searching the room for the presents.
The younger of the two trailed after his alpha happily, a bounce in his step.
"You start looking too!"
"Va bene~!" The twins searched around the room for places where Romulus might have hidden their presents. Finally, the only places left to check were the closet and under the bed. Each boy took one, then looked at each other. On the count of three, Lovino threw open the closet door and Feliciano lifted the bed skirt.
Lovino blinked then glared at the present free closet. "Dammit! Are you fucking kidding me?! It's not here?! It was in here last year!"
"Nonno is getting tricky! Where else would he hide them?" Feliciano asked, standing up. He began to list off possible places. "The attic? No, we would have heard that... The hall closet...? His bathroom? One of the guest rooms?"
Frowning as he thought about it, the older twin tapped his chin as he said, "If they're small enough the bastard might be keeping the shit ON himself so we can't get to it…"
Feliciano's eyes widened. "Wow! That would REALLY be different from hiding them! But how do we find out if that's right or not?" he asked.
"… no fucking clue…"
"Veh, we should check the other places they could be first, just to be sure," Feliciano suggested.
Lovino shrugged in reply. "Guess we can."
The two began to search, checking each room thoroughly, going over each space twice, wanting to be sure the other hadn't missed anything.
"Dammit, old man! Why did you have to make this so fucking difficult this year?!" Lovino cursed as he tossed a pillow away.
Feliciano laughed, shutting the door to the bathroom. It was the third guest door they had checked, not counting the bathrooms, and they still had more places to look. "Maybe this year it's a test to see how long we'll actually keep looking?" he said.
"Or to drive the both of us insane…." Lovino muttered under his breath.
"Maybe both~!"
"… Don't say that with that fucking cheerful face, you little bastard."
Feliciano giggled, smiling at his twin. "Why not~?"
"Uh… Because I said so, dammit!"
"That's a great reason, fratello," Feliciano teased, smiling brightly.
Lovino glared over at him. "Smart ass."
In the end, they were unable to find the presents and they searched the house the rest of the day and a little into the night. When they woke up the next morning, they discovered school had been cancelled thanks to snow and two piles of presents awaited them on the kitchen table. Romulus was at the stove, cooking them breakfast.
"Buon compleanno, i miei bellissimi nipoti!" (Happy birthday, my beautiful grandsons!) he chirped as soon as they walked in. Taking from the hot stove and setting it on a cool burner, he rushed over to the twins and picked them up in a tight hug, swinging them around in a circle with a loud, boisterous laugh.
"P-Put us down, you old bastard!" Lovino yelped as he struggled to try to free himself. "What the hell?!"
Feliciano, on the other hand, squealed in delight, clinging to his grandfather.
"D-Dammit! You bastards!"
Finally, Romulus set them down and the newly turned seventeen year olds sat down at the table as their grandfather set plates piled with pancakes, bacon, toast, and eggs before them, then a pitch of orange juice and a pot of freshly brewed coffee.
"Still annoyed at you, bastard," Lovino muttered. "You make this present finding shit too fucking hard this year."
"What do you mean, Lovi?" Romulus asked. "I had them hidden under my bed."
Feliciano turned away from the two, shaking with laughter.
Lovino instantly tensed up. "They were… WHERE?!" Then he slowly glared daggers over at Feliciano. "You little bastard… YOU were the one who 'checked' the fucking bed!"
Feliciano threw back his head, rawring with laughter, covering his eyes with one hand as they watered from mirth. "I-I'm not even sorry! Oh god! That was soooo worth not saying anything! Lovi! Y-You're face! Ha ha ha!"
Lovino growled as he tightly clenched his fists. "Start fucking running. Right. NOW."
Squealing loudly, Feliciano bolted, running from the kitchen and taking off towards the stairs.
Lovino instantly darted after him and soon after that loud crashes were heard all around the house as the twins chases each other around.
Romulus' laughed rang out from the kitchen as he listened. His grandbabies were just so cute~.
"It's not fucking funny, old man!" Lovino's voice yelled down the stairs.
There was a loud squeal and thump as Feliciano was tackled and hit the ground.
The elder Italian grinned. Yep, simply adorable.
After Lovino decided he'd punished Feliciano long enough (by sitting on his younger sibling until he was squealing and squirming, begging for mercy), the two went back downstairs. Breakfast had finished long ago, but Romulus had kept the food nice and warm for them and he sat at the table and happily watched then shove it down as though they hadn't eaten in weeks.
"Little bastard," Lovino grumbled as he finished the last bit of his food and shoved the plate away while shooting an annoyed glare at his brother. "Why'd you have to fucking run?"
"I didn't want you to beat me up!"
"I wasn't going to fucking do that!"
"I didn't know what you where going to do! You gave me a warning to run so I did!"
"ANYONE would fucking say that!"
"I don't think ANYONE would say that!"
"Yes they fucking would!"
"No they wouldn't!"
Lovino growled then glanced at Romulus. "Nonno? Any fucking swim pools open right now?" His mind was already developing scenarios in which he could give his brother a good dunking.
Romulus blinked. "It's the middle of March, Lovi. There aren't any open pools around," he said. Deciding to stop the new argument before it could even begin, he then made a suggestion. "How about I take you boys to see a movie?"
"I meant indoor pools…" Lovino muttered under his breath but out loud said, "What fucking movie?"
"Whatever movie you two want to see. I don't care that it is," Romulus said.
Lovino stared at him with a light frown on his face then asked, "What if we want to stay home…?"
Before the elder Italian could answer, Feliciano jumped in. Literally. He lept across the table, tackling his grandfather out of his seat excitedly. "Yay~! A movie~! A movie, a movie~! Let's go to the movies, Lovi~!" he chirped. Romulus laughed under him.
Lovino huffed as he got up to take his plate to the sink. "Fine, let's fucking go to the movies…."
"Yay~! The movies, the movies~!"
After the three were dressed and ready, they started towards Romulus' car. "Oh, hold on. I forgot my wallet. Go ahead and get in the car," he said, handing Lovino his keys before going back into the house and going upstairs to this study. Knowing Feliciano would keep Lovino outside, Romulus pulled out his cell phone and scrolled through his contacts until he found the name he wanted. Smiling, he pressed call. "Alright, we're going out to the movies. You have two hours, maybe a little longer. Do whatever you can," he said, then hung up. A bright smile was on his lips as he grabbed his wallet and bounced back down the stairs. His little grandbabies were going to have the best birthday ever this year~!
Romulus pulled into the theater parking lot and the three got out, heading towards the doors. "What movie do you two want to see?" he asked as they joined the line to get to the ticket desk.
Lovino shrugged as he shot his grandfather a suspicious glare. "Ask Feliciano. He's the one who wanted to come here while you fucking distract us and keep us out of the damn house."
"Hey!" Romulus whined. "It was just a suggestion! And Feli wanted to! I didn't do anything!"
"Veh veh~! I wanna see Pacific Rim~!" Feliciano exclaimed, having not paid any attention to his twin and grandfather's conversation. "Everyone said it was really good and had giant robots and aliens~! It sounds fun~! Can we see that one? Please? Please?"
Lovino rolled his eyes and motioned for Romulus to go up and pay. Then he waited until Romulus was gone to yank Feliciano close and whispered, "I think nonno's planning something and keeping us out of the damn house."
"I know~!" Feliciano answered happily.
Lovino stared at him.
Feliciano stared back, his smile slowly fading. "Um... what is it?" he asked.
Lovino shook his head and waved it off. "Nothing, dammit. Just wondering how you can go along with this shit like it's nothing and we're not being fucking tricked."
"Oh~! Because it's nonno and our birthday so I know that whatever he's up to isn't something bad against us, in fact, it's probably something for us~!" he explained cheerfully. "So the way I see it, it's best to just pretend nothing is happening and don't think about it~! That way, it can stay a surprise and be way more fun~!"
Lovino rolled his eyes and grumbled. "Dammit…. Guess I'll try to do that…"
"Yay~!"
Romulus called them over then. "Come on, boys~! Time to pick snacks then head to our theater~!"
Feliciano squealed in excitement, then grabbed his brother's hand and dragged him towards their grandfather.
After the movie was over and they had left the theater, Feliciano babbled on and on about what they had seen. "And that explosion! It was so cool~! And loud, but mostly cool~! And that one guys in the part~! It was so exciting~!"
"Was still pretty fucking weird." Lovino muttered. "Can I just sleep when we get back home?"
"No way!" Feliciano whined before Romulus could speak. "We're going to stay up aaaaaaall night! It'll be fun~! We have to stay up until midnight! We have to! It'll be fun!"
Lovino grumbled something and kept walking.
Feliciano led the way to the car and the three started home.
"This day has been so much fun~!" the younger twin chirped happily from the back seat, causing Romulus to laugh.
"I'm glad you're enjoying yourself," he said. "What about you, Lovi? How are you feeling now? Having fun? Enjoying your birthday? Anything you want to do before we go home since you don't seem like you enjoyed the movie?"
Lovino shrugged in reply. "I think we need to get more cat food."
"I actually got a new bag yesterday, but if you want, we can definitely go to the store."
"Don't care. As I told this dumbass," Lovino grumbled as he pointed at Feliciano. "I already said I'm fucking tired and want to sleep." Then he glanced away and sighed in a sad tone when he thought Feliciano and Romulus wouldn't notice. Why hadn't Antonio called him on the phone (a Christmas gift from Romulus) yet….?
Feliciano turned towards the window and slid his phone (also a Christmas gift from Romulus) out of his pocket, checking to see if he had any new messages. None. He felt his mood plummet but tried hard to keep his appearance up. Why hadn't Ludwig called him? Or at least sent him a text yet?
"Well? You going to fucking start driving yet old man?" Lovino snapped then leaned back in his seat and crossed his arms.
"Yeah, of course." Romulus turned on his car and started the drive home.
"Fucking tomato bastard…" Lovino muttered as he glared at the phone in his hand.
"L-Luddy..." Feliciano whimpered softly, looking sadly at his phone.
"The hell's the matter with you?" Lovino asked as he glanced over at his brother.
Feliciano squealed, scrambling to hid his phone. "N-Nothing! What's wrong with you!?" he shot back.
"N-Nothing, dammit!" Lovino sputtered and quickly hid his own phone before jumping out of the car when Romulus pulled to a stop in the driveway.
The twins raced each other to the door, throwing it open together. The room they entered was dark.
Suddenly, the lights burst into life and all of their friends jumped out from various hiding places, screaming at the top of their lungs, "SURPRISE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!"
"W-What….?!" Lovino exclaimed with a surprised look on his face then glanced between Feliciano and Romulus to make sure he wasn't seeing things. "W-What the hell is this…?!"
Feliciano looked just as shocked as his twin while Romulus was smiling broadly. "Happy birthday, nipoti~."
Coming back to his senses, Feliciano's eyes locked onto Ludwig and he threw himself at the teen, latching onto him tightly. "LUDDY!" he sobbed. "Y-You! Why didn't you text or c-call me!? I-It was so mean of you!"
Ludwig hugged him back as he gently said, "I'm sorry… but... I had to help out here with getting everything ready… I.,. didn't really have any time to do it…" Then he coughed before adding, "B-But... er... Happy birthday..."
At the same time, Lovino ran over to Antonio and punched him in the arm. "W-What the fuck, you asshole?! Why didn't you fucking call me or text me or SOMETHING! It's your fucking fault, bastard!"
Feliciano sniffed, nuzzling the other happily. "Grazie, Luddy," he cooed happily.
Antonio wrapped his arms around the Italian, laughing. "Lo siento, mi querido! I wanted to contact you all day, but Francis knew I would give away the secret so he stole my phone from me last night. Te amo, mi amor~. Feliz cumpleaños~."
"French bastard's fucking DEAD…" Lovino muttered as he hugged Antonio back. "B-But thanks…. Bastard…"
"De nada~."
