"So Kens -
"I don't want to talk about it, Deeks."
"Alright," he said, clearing his throat uncomfortably, "we could not talk about it, but what's that really going to accomplish?"
Kensi answered his question with silence. She continued to stare straight ahead.
"Why didn't you take that shot Kensi?"
"We've been down this road before, and as I remember we don't like where it leads."
Deeks scoffed.
"Oh no, no, no, you don't get to do that. You can't just go crazy on me when I don't take a shot but then ignore it when you do the exact same thing."
She glared at him.
"I'm not ignoring it."
"Alright then what is it, exactly?"
She turned to him with an intensity that took him by surprise.
"I'll tell you what it is, I care about you too much, Deeks. There's a reason they don't let partners date - I mean it really clouds your judgement."
He raised his eyebrows.
"Wow, okay so you didn't care about your last partner?"
"Of course I did, but I wasn't in love with my last partner."
Deeks seemed caught off guard by this. His expression softened as he stared back at her.
Still, he cleared his throat uncomfortably.
"Where do we go from here?"
He asked, his voice barely a whisper.
"I don't know, Deeks, I don't know… We're in too deep."
She saw the hurt in the eyes, and she knew the idea of not being together scared him as much as it did her.
