Chapter 32: Nurseries & Hunting
Amanda's POV
"Yeah Mom . . . there's the slight possibility that we may encounter some supernatural hunters out here in Montana . . ." I say with a sigh as I looked out into the scenic landscape, now a little darker due to the sun setting over the horizon. ". . . So much for a relaxing vacation in the Montana countryside huh?"
". . . What did Randy think when he heard about these hunters?" she asks me, her slightly accented voice sounding crystal clear through the receiver. "I got to suspect he wasn't too thrilled when he found out about them huh?"
"No . . . no he wasn't," I say with a shake of my head. "He didn't really . . . verbalize what he was thinking, but I could hear it loud and clear from just the look in his eyes."
"Well . . . Randy tends to be a man of few words after all . . ." Mom tells me in agreement as I let out a deep breath. "I hope everything ends up being okay. Just stay safe . . . that goes for all of you over there okay?"
"We'll try Mom, or should I say, soon to be a first time grandmother," I say with a smirk as I pinch the bridge of my nose. "Tell Dad I said hi okay?"
"I will . . . and will you tell everyone over where you're at that your father and I send our regards?" she asks me with a small chuckle.
"Will do Mom . . . Bye," I say with a smirk before I ended the call. Once I pocketed my phone, I turned around to see that Randy was staring at me from the hallway, his eyes looking clouded and contemplative as he walks into our bedroom. "Hey . . . you okay?"
"I'm fine . . ." he tells me as he takes a seat on the bed. "I'm . . . I'm just a little unsettled about the idea of hunters invading this area that's all."
". . . You're overprotective instincts are going into overdrive huh?" I ask with a sheepish look on my face. "You can't help but worry about what could happen if those hunters do show up right?"
"How do you know me so well?" he asks me with a small smirk as I walk over to him. "What you just said explains what I'm feeling perfectly babe . . ."
"Let's just say I have a way of reading people . . ." I say with a chuckle as I sit down beside him. "So . . . any idea of what you want to do next?"
"Well . . . I have no idea to be honest . . ." says Randy as he did a small shrug. "My grandparents are going to meet with a few of their neighbors over at a friend's house to discuss the whole hunter issue. . . . That means the rest of us will be left to our own devices for a few hours."
"So we'll be stuck in a house with your brother and your daughter, while our bus driver continues to hang out at our bus in the barn doing who knows what as your grandparents and their neighbors try to figure something out in regards to incoming supernatural hunters," I say thoughtfully as I looked up at the ceiling. "Yeah, yeah . . . that sounds like a fun evening to me. Much more fun than sitting on your butt for hours as you get your tattoos retouched at least."
"Ah . . . you and your sarcasm and witty remarks," Randy tells me with a chuckle as he lays himself out on the bed. "By the way, speaking of tattoos, when are you getting yours retouched again?"
"Well . . . we both had them retouched around Thanksgiving time, but I think I'll hold off on getting mine redone till after our girls are born in December," I say with a shrug. "What about you?"
"Eh . . . I'll get them redone in November," he tells me thoughtfully as he lets out a small breath. "I'm even thinking about adding on to my collection actually . . ."
"Oh really now?" I say with an eyebrow raised as I fell back onto the bed right next to him. "You're thinking of getting a new tattoo? Where are you going to put it this time around, hmm?"
"Uh . . . I'll figure something out . . ." he tells me with a smirk as he stretches his arms out in front of him. "My arms barely have any spare real estate on them to cater for another tattoo. . . I may actually have to get the tattoo on another body part for once. . ."
"There is a first for everything . . ." I say with a smirk as I rest my head on his shoulder. "So, any ideas on what kind of tattoo you want to get this time around?"
"Hmm . . . I'm actually thinking about getting a tattoo that's inspired by you baby." he tells me with a chuckle as I feel his arms starting to wrap around me.
"A tattoo inspired by me Ran?" I ask in mild surprise as I looked up at his smirking face. "I'm honored babe . . . Hmm, is it going to be snake related?"
"Hmm . . . you know, despite my snaky moniker and my lifelong love for the limbless reptile, I never really got a tattoo that was snake inspired," Randy tells me with a thoughtful look on his face. "Now I have a reason to."
"Good for you . . ." I say with a small sigh as I heard a pair of heels coming our way. "You guys are leaving now Rita?"
"Yep . . ." we hear her say to us as we turn to the doorway. She was now dressed in a simple shirt and pants combo, a pair of boots now replacing the sandals she wore earlier in the day. "I want to give you guys a little gift before me and Bob leave out."
"Does the gift you're talking about involve that small stack of books you're holding in your hands?" Randy asks her with a smirk on his face as we both sat back up to face her better.
"Indeed it does . . ." she tells us with a smirk as she walks over to us. "I have a few books here that should help you two with your upcoming status as future parents of twins. You won't found these titles online because they're all written by vampire authors, so that should make things even easier for you. The topics range from dealing with the last months of pregnancy to creating a new nursery and all that good stuff."
"Uh Grandma, I do have a kid already . . ." says Randy as he lets out a nervous chuckle, as if he was trying to figure out a way to get out of this without hurting her feelings. "I already have experience in the parenting department, so I don't think the books will be that much help for me, but thanks anyway."
"Well . . . If you don't think you need them, then I'll just give them to 'Manda, since this is the first time she's ever having kids . . . Who knows, maybe you'll actually learn something from looking at a page or two in one of these books," she tells him with a small shrug as she handed the books to me, except for the one that was at the bottom of the stack, which she practically shoved into Randy's hand. "But this one . . . This is one you just have to read Ran."
"Why?" Randy asks her curiously as we watch her make her way out the room. "What's it all about?"
"Simple . . ." she tells him with a smirk as she steps halfway out the room. "It's a book on anger management. I heard you needed one of those to help with that bad temper of yours."
"Thanks Grandma . . ." said Randy as both Rita and I start chuckling at the look on his face. "Thanks a mil . . ."
"You're welcome Randy . . ." she tells him while holding back her chuckling fit. "Your grandfather and I will see you guys later. . . Have a good night you two."
"See ya . . ." I say with a sigh as she disappears down the hallway. I look down at the stack of books in my hand. There were four in total, and each was pretty big, which means I'll be doing a lot of reading in the upcoming weeks. "Your grandma does raise some good points, babe . . ."
"How so?' he asks me as he raises an eyebrow.
"Well, for starters, we got to start thinking about creating a nursery for the girls . . . You know, for the times we're back home in St. Louis?" I say as I put the stack of books off to the side. "I know we'll be on the road for most of the year, but it would be nice to have a little place for the twins once we get back to the loft."
"That . . . that is a good idea," he concedes as he lets out a small breath. "We can't just leave the girls without a room when we're home at the loft . . . But creating a nursery does take some planning. . . I know what we can do. We can consult Sam."
"Consult Sam?" I ask with an eyebrow raised.
"Well of course . . ." he tells me with a smirk. "She is an interior designer after all. Designing rooms is her forte. With her help, we'll have a nursery ready for our twins in no time."
"Yeah . . . but she could be busy with other clients," I argue as I stand back up on my feet. "Who knows if she'll have time for us when she has a whole bunch of other clients she has to work with."
"Oh trust me . . . she'll have time for us," Randy tells me with a superior smirk as he crosses his arms. "You know what . . . leave the whole nursery situation to me. I got this covered."
"Are you sure about this?" I ask in absolute shock as he gets up from his seat. The Viper, Randy Orton, wants to tackle the creation of the nursery for our twins . . . by himself. . . The voices in his head must really be driving him crazy. "You want to handle the nursery situation . . . BY YOURSELF? ARE YOU REALLY SERIOUS?"
"Yep . . . leave everything to me," he tells me confidently as he places his hands on my shoulders. "Trust me babe . . . I know what I'm doing. Everything will be fine."
"But having a nursery done is a big responsibility . . . I know that much," I say as the Viper wraps his arms around me. "Are you sure about this Ran? You don't really need to do this by yourself you know. . . This doesn't have to be a one man job."
"I know, but I'm absolutely positive I can do this . . ." he tells me with a smile as we lock eyes. "You have nothing to worry about babe . . . I got this covered."
"I hope so . . . You really promise you got this covered?" I ask as a small, sheepish smirk comes across my face. "I mean, REALLY promise?"
"I promise I got this covered," he tells me with a chuckle as he pecks my lips. "And if everything does go wrong in the end, I promise you can kick my ass if the results are not to your satisfaction. I won't make you regret your decision. You have my word."
"Well . . . if that's the case . . . Alright, you can handle the nursery," I say as I let out a sigh of defeat. "But if that nursery turns out crappy and not up to par, I'm going to make sure your life's a living hell until that nursery is fixed. You hear me?"
"I hear you loud and clear babe . . ." Randy tells me with a grin as he kisses my forehead. "Trust me babe, once you see the nursery in its full glory, you are going to be absolutely ecstatic."
"Why do I have the feeling that you've already have it all planned out in your head . . . like you've been planning it for years?" I ask curiously as I raised an eyebrow. "Most men are usually reluctant to take the lead on a project like this."
"Well . . . you know very well that I wasn't around during most of the nine months Sam was pregnant with Alanna, and therefore I wasn't really there for most of the planning and decision making. Most of the decisions were all Sam's," he tells me as a thoughtful look comes across his face. "I felt so bad not being around for most of that pregnancy that I don't want to make the same mistake with you. . ."
". . . So you basically want to redeem yourself by being more involved with this pregnancy, even going as far as to volunteer to take the lead on the whole nursery planning situation huh?" I finish as I raise an eyebrow.
"Yeah . . . that's basically it," the Viper tells me sheepishly as he scratches the back of his neck. "You don't have any problems with this do you?"
"Not at all . . . Mom always said that when it comes to welcoming a new a baby into the world, the planning and preparation has to be equal between the parents. It's got to be 50-50, so even though you are taking the lead on the nursery, I would like to have at least some input on the project okay?" I ask with a knowing smirk on my face as I crossed my arms.
"You got it . . ." he tells me with a smirk as he turns to the doorway. "What do you want now Nate?"
Normal POV
"Sorry, but I couldn't help but listen in to this very interesting conversation you two were having just now," said the younger Orton as he walked into the room with a smirk on his face. "In my opinion, you letting Randy take the lead on the nursery is probably the craziest choice you've ever made 'Manda. Are you sure you're alright?"
"She's not crazy Nate," said Randy as an irritated scowl came across his chiseled face. "She's just very trusting of me, that's' all, and trust is a very big thing in a healthy relationship after all."
"Have you been sneaking a peak into one of Grandma's relationship books?" Nate asked his brother suddenly as he raised an eyebrow. Randy's eyes widened for a split second before returning to a neutral expression. It was completely unnoticed by Nate, but Amanda instantly caught it.
"Nope . . ." Randy answered him simply as he shook his head. "So Nate, what did you really want in the first place? You must have come by here to ask for something."
"Actually, I wanted to ask you if you wanted to go hunting with me," said Nate as he shrugged his shoulders. "Grandpa said that there are a good amount of deer and bears around here. If we're lucky, we may even catch ourselves a cougar. . . I would extend the invitation to you 'Manda, but I'm guessing Randy isn't going to let you do that while pregnant huh?"
"You got that right . . ." said Amanda as a sheepish look came across Randy's face. "To tell you the truth, your brother has never taken me on my first hunting trip yet."
"How dare you sir!" cried Nate as he shot his brother an appalled look. "How have you not taken your own mate hunting yet? Learning to hunt is crucial for a vampire's existence!"
"You obviously know my main reason why . . ." said Randy as he rolled his eyes while pointing to Amanda's protruding belly. "And besides, I do plan on taking her out on her first hunt, but not until she has delivered the twins alright?"
"Alright, alright . . . I hear you loud and clear bro," said Nate in a tone that told the vampire couple he wouldn't push the subject further. "So . . . you want to go out hunting or not?"
"Well . . . I am feeling a little thirsty," mumbled Randy as he brought his hand to his throat. ". . . but with those hunters being a continuing issue in this area, I don't think it's a good idea."
"Are you only saying that because you don't want to leave Amanda and Alanna alone in the house?" asked Nate as he shot his brother a blunt look. "Hal's here too you know. He could stay with them while we're gone."
"How well do you think Hal could defend my mate and my daughter against a group of hunters?" asked Randy as he raised an eyebrow.
"Not very well . . ." said Hal as he poked his head into the doorway. "Trust me . . . I'm no help in the defense department. . . Please don't make me do it. I'm too good looking to get hurt."
"Nice to know Hal . . ." said Amanda, her tone blunt as she turned to the bus driver. "That's very nice to know."
"I know right? I'll take myself out of the conversation now . . ." said Hal as he showed off a bright smile before leaving the three and making his way down the hallway.
"Well . . . that didn't help my argument, not one bit," said Nate as a sheepish look came across his face. "Bro, do you want to go hunting with me or not?"
"C'mon . . . I bet you've been dying to go out hunting ever since we've got here," said Amanda as she shot him a knowing look. "If you want to go out hunting, then go ahead."
"Are you sure about this babe?" asked Randy as he turned to her. "Maybe we should wait until Grandma and grandpa get back. . . The wait shouldn't be long now."
"Babe . . . I can see it in your eyes . . . you want to go out hunting. Badly, might I add," said Amanda as she snuck a look out the window before turning back to him. "There's still a little bit of sunlight left . . . you guys could still get in a good half hours' worth of hunting before nightfall finally comes. And if you think the hunters are somehow nearby here, then try to keep your hunting vicinity near the house . . . That way you could rush back if something does happen. It also helps if you keep your cell phone on, just in case I do have to call you in an emergency."
"See . . . Amanda knows what she's talking about. We can go with her plan while we're out . . ." said Nate as he walked over to the two. "C'mon Randy . . . let's go. We're burning daylight!"
"Alright fine . . .!" said Randy as he finally relented to his brother's request. "I'll go hunting withy ya . . . but we're going to stay close to the house alright!"
"YES!" exclaimed Nate as he pumped his fists into the air. "I'll meet you out in the backyard."
"Bag some deer for me while you're gone . . ." said Amanda as she began to push Randy out the room. "And don't let your brother annoy you so much you want to throw him into a ditch somewhere okay."
"I'll try . . . you promise you'll keep your phone on you just in case of an emergency?" asked Randy as he stopped Amanda from pushing him any further by holding onto the doorframe.
"Yes . . . and I'll even start up a psychic link between us so that if you can't get to me through a phone, you can get through to me through my mind," said Amanda as she pecked his lips. "Now go say goodbye to Alanna and Hal and get a move on. You don't have that much time to hunt before the sun fully goes down."
"Alright, alright . . . I'm going," said Randy as he let out a sigh of defeat. He leaned down and kissed Amanda, savoring the feel of her lips as he moved a hand to her cheek. Amanda gently bit down on his bottom lip, gaining a small moan from him in response. She tugged on it, stretching the lip as far as it could before letting go. She looked up with a smirk to see Randy looking at her, his eyes hinting at the lust he was feeling for her as he tried to hold back a moan. ". . . You know I'm going to get you back for that, right?"
"I had a feeling you would . . ." said Amanda with a smirk as she let out a small chuckle. "Now get moving . . . Nate's waiting for you remember?"
"Yeah, yeah . . . I know, I know . . ." said Randy as he pecked her lips one last time before making his way down the hallway. "I'll see you in a little bit."
"You better . . ." was all Amanda said as Randy disappeared from sight, his husky chuckle the last thing she hears from him before walking back into their bedroom.
Randy's POV
"Ah . . . now that you're finally out of the house, can we please get this hunting expedition started already?" asks Nate as I close the door behind me. "I already smelled out a nice batch of deer and they're already on the move. If we want to catch them we better get moving."
"Nice bro . . ." I say with a smirk as I looked around the area. "Which direction are the deer?"
"They're that way . . . WAIT!" I hear my brother call after me, but I just let out a loud chuckle for an answer as I start running toward the deer, they're scent now filling my nose as a familiar burning sensation appears within my throat. I probably run a good half mile in 30 seconds flat, with Nate following right at my heels of course, before I spot the deer, all of them running in a pack as they make their way toward a small pond. "Really? You were going to leave me back there?"
"Hey . . . you're the one that wanted to hunt after all . . . HEY!" I yell as my brother goes from standing beside me one minute to latching his fangs into a deer's neck the next. His actions startle the other deer so much that they began to run in all different directions as my brother continues to have his fill. I decide to go for the one that was still running for the pond. I quickly move so that I was right in front of the wild creature and grab it by its' throat, slamming it right to the ground before sinking my teeth right into its fur covered throat.
"BRO . . . I SPY PUMAS!
As soon as I heard those words, I look up from my half drained meal to see my brother pointing toward two pumas watching us from about fifty feet away, already feasting on a deer that they managed to grab while it was running away from us.
"There distracted . . . You thinking what I'm thinking?" Nate asks me with a bloody grin as he points to the two pumas. I shoot him a bloody grin of my own, signaling that I was. Hey . . . when an opportunity shows itself, you take it . . . "Alright then . . . on three . . . one . . . two . . ."
"THREE!" I say with a grin as we both break into a sprint. Being the slightly faster brother, I manage to reach the pumas first before Nate could, so I had the advantage of picking my puma first . . . so of course I grab the bigger one. I grab it by the scruff of its neck as it went to bite the dead deer, but as soon as I tried to twist it around; it swiped its claw across my chest and pushed me to the ground. We roll around in the dirt for a bit before I manage to kick it off me, but it manages to get up the same time I did.
"You're a fighter aren't ya . . . I never liked playing with my food, so I'm going to make your death real quick," I say with a smirk as I quickly checked my chest. Four reasonably sized claw marked my shirt and chest, blood slowly seeping out of the wound as it begins to heal. "Aw . . . you ruined my favorite shirt . . . You're going to pay for that."
The puma only lets out a feral yell before charging toward me, but I move out of its way before it could pounce. I quickly grab it by its tail as it went by and swing it over my shoulder, slamming it back first into the ground. The sounds of its bones cracking puts a small smile on my face, and once I look up at the cat's face, I knew it was dead from the moment I looked into its' vacant eyes.
"I guess you got the feisty puma . . ." I hear my brother say from right behind me as I bit down into the puma's flesh. "Mine was actually a lot easier to handle . . . Took me only two seconds to kill it."
"Uh huh . . ." I mumble against the cat's skin as I let its blood pour into my throat, cooling the burn until it completely dissipated. Once I completely had my fill, I looked up to see my brother's smirking face. ". . . You full yet, because I'm done. . ."
"Yeah . . . I'm good . . ." he tells me as I stood back up. "My bloodlust has been satisfied for the time being, so yeah . . . we can get back to the house."
"Good . . . because the moon's already up," I say as I point to the glowing planet traveling further up into the sky, the sun now long gone for the night. ". . . Let's get back home. I seriously need a shower."
'Of course you do . . . you just look like you've been through a war," says my little brother with a chuckle as he points to my disheveled looking form. He then points to himself, and I have to admit, he looked completely the same compared to before we started hunting. "Me, on the other hand . . . well, I'm still as fresh as a daisy. Grandma would be proud."
"Uh huh . . ." I say with a shake of my head. But then, like the grown 34 year old man that I am, I push my brother right into the mud, just out of spite. He looks at me in horror as he slowly gets back up, his expression so comical that I felt like laughing my ass of. "C'mon Mr. Dirty Daisy, let's go home."
You got to love some good ol' family fun.
