Chapter 48: Family Hunting Trip
Amanda's POV
"Randy, are you ready to go yet?" I call out as I walk into our bedroom to see the Viper looking at something on his phone with his back turned to me. I quickly make my way over to him and peer over his shoulder to see that he was looking through a gallery of past photo shoots I've done during my tenure with the WWE . . . Oh men. "Really Randy? That's what's been holding you up? You've been looking through old photos of me all this time?"
"What can I say? I was feeling a little nostalgic . . ." he tells me with a small grin as he continues to browse the gallery. "I particularly like this certain shoot you did two years ago. You owned this bikini babe."
"Yeah . . . I can make a black two piece look good can I . . ." I say sarcastically as I begin to drag him out the room by his shirt collar. "Is there anything else that's interesting on the company website you want to show me, or can we go now?"
"Well . . . there is a certain article on the site that congratulates us on our new twins . . ." Randy tells me with a shrug, his news instantly bringing me to a standstill. "Here babe, take a look and see . . . Its weeks old and rather short, but it's been one of the most viewed articles on the entire website this month."
I take his phone and look at the screen, the bright red headline instantly getting my attention as I skim through the page. 'Congratulations to the Anaconda & the Viper on their New Bundles of Joy!' was the article's headline, which was then followed by a photo of me and Randy from a photo shoot we did together over three years ago and then a short paragraph that was only five lines long that talked about us becoming the new parents of twins girls. I quickly take a peek at the views box to see that the article was already seen by over 250,000 people.
"Uh . . . the company brass usually doesn't have articles like these shown on the website unless they are given permission from the subjects of said articles . . ." I say as I narrow my eyes at the screen. "And I don't remember ever giving Steph and Hunter the go ahead to have this article published."
"Neither do I . . ." Randy tells me as he pockets his phone. "They either decided to have the article posted behind our backs, or someone that's close to the two of us gave them the okay to do it."
"Steph and Hunter both know we hate having our personal lives made public, and they know how irritated we get when that actually does happen, so the first suggestion is definitely not it," I grumble as I think about the possibilities. "So that leaves the other option. . . Who do you think would go behind our backs and give them the okay to post the article?"
"Oh . . . I think I can think of a few guys . . ." Randy tells me with a knowing smirk as we walk through the loft. "It could have been one of our co-workers . . . or one of our siblings . . ."
"Or it could have been one of our own parents . . ." I tell him with a shake of my head as we walk down the staircase toward the garage. "I don't know about our dads, but our moms could have conspired against us to let some of our personal details be leaked to the public."
"I can't imagine my mom doing that . . ." Randy tells me bluntly as we reached the bottom of the stairs. Leave it to Randy to not believe that his mother wouldn't do such a thing to him like leak some of his personal details out into the open.
"But I can . . ." I tell him back, equally blunt as him as we made our way over to the cars. We easily spot Wade leaning on the side of Monica's Silverado, watching Monica herself as she sits in between Dani and Gabi's car seats in the backseat of Randy's Hummer playing a one-sided game of Peek-a-Boo. "Are you guys ready to go?"
"Yeah . . . we were just waiting on you two, you slowpokes . . ." says Wade as he turns to us. "What took you two so long? We're you two making out in the ring again?"
"Nope, but I bet Randy would have so loved that . . ." I tell him bluntly as I handed Randy his car keys, the Viper shooting me a smirk for my remark. "I had to drag Randy out of our room because he distracted himself by browsing through old photos of me."
"Really . . .?" Wade asks the Viper in a deadpan voice as he watches him walk over to the Hummer's driver-side door. "We're trying to go to a state park as fast as we can before Monica and I start transforming and you guys can hunt, and you delay us by looking through old photos of your girlfriend?"
"Don't look at me like that Wade," Randy tells him with a shake of his head. "I bet you've distracted yourself by looking at photos of Monica. . . Don't try to deny it. I can see the truth in your eyes."
"Uh . . . well . . . I . . ." Wade stammers out as Monica climbs out of the Hummer's backseat. She shoots him a curious look before walking over to the Silverado's driver side door, keeping her eyes on Wade the entire time, waiting to hear his answer. "Touché Orton . . . Touché."
"I thought so . . ." Randy tells him with a smirk before turning to me. "Climb in babe. We're in for a busy night."
"Hmm . . . if you say so . . ." I mumble under my breath as I climb into the backseat and make my way to the middle. Once I finally got myself seated and buckled in, Randy pulled the car out of its spot and drove us out the building, with Monica and Wade following right behind us in her Silverado. We make our way to Bob and Elaine's house in a comfortable silence, breezing by traffic quickly due to Randy really pushing it on the speed limit, even going over it a couple of times along the way.
"Babe . . . you were really acting like a little speed demon on the highway coming over here . . ." I say with a small smirk as we pulled up to the Orton house.
"So I'm a little excited about our little hunting excursion . . ." he tells me with a sheepish chuckle as he cuts the engine. "Sue me . . ."
"Are you excited . . ." I ask with an eyebrow raised as I unbuckle my seatbelt. "Or are you hoping to get this night over with quickly?"
"Now why would you say that?" Randy asks me quickly as he unbuckled his seatbelt and quickly went out the door.
"Well . . . every time I mentioned our hunting trip throughout the day today, you seemed a little . . . antsy . . . As if you were feeling nervous over the whole idea," I tell him as he opens the door on Dani's side. "Care to explain your weird behavior Mr.?"
"Okay . . . so I may have my . . . worries." he tells me simply as he quickly unstraps Dani's car seat from the back while I did the same with Gabi's seat. I quickly grab the girls' baby bag and with my other arm before climbing out the car to see Randy looking at me with a pensive stare.
"Would those worries include me somehow getting hurt by one of the animals we'll be hunting?" I ask with an eyebrow raised as we walk up the path to the house.
"Well . . . yeah," he tells me guiltily as we climb up the porch steps. "My first hunt didn't end so well for me . . . I don't want the same thing happening to you, that's all."
"Don't worry . . . I'm not going to suffer the same fate you did when you went on your first hunt all those years ago," I say with a confident smirk as I rang the doorbell. ". . . And can you guess why I won't suffer from the same fate?"
"Why?" he asks me curiously as we hear a couple of pairs of footsteps approaching the door from the inside the house.
"Simple, you can get very overprotective when you want to be, especially when I'm the one in danger," I say with a little wink. "With that overprotective side of yours on my side, I think it'll be impossible for a wild animal to sneak up on me on your watch."
"I guess you're right on that account . . . I can get very protective when I want to be," Randy tells me with a sheepish smirk of his own as the door opens up to reveal his mother and father right behind it. "Hey Mom, Dad! I hope Becky or Nate told you about why we came over tonight."
"Oh . . . we know," says Bob as I handed Elaine Gabi's car seat while Randy handed Dani off to her grandfather. "Becky, Nate, Marvin, your ride's here!"
"Where're Monica and Wade?" Elaine asks us curiously as she looks out into the street.
"They're in the blue Silverado behind the Hummer," answers Randy as he points to the truck behind his car. Wade manages to do a small wave from the passenger seat while Monica did a small salute, both of their eyes looking more and more feverish with each passing second. "And judging from the look in their eyes, they're not going to last much longer if we keep them waiting like this."
"Then we better not keep them waiting . . ." called out Marvin as he walked down the hall and into the foyer. "Becky is trying to drag Nate from out the kitchen. 'Manda, your grandma introduced him to her Chinese dumplings, and he's been hooked on them ever since. He just can't stop eating them, and your grandma makes it worse by insisting on making them for him."
"Sorry. . . When my grandma meets a person that really appreciates her dumplings, she just can't help but make more of them," I say apologetically as we all turn to see Becky dragging Nate over to us by his shirt collar, the middle Orton stuffing his face with one of my grandma's signature dumplings in the process. "And speaking of Becky dragging Nate . . ."
"Nate, you can have more of Chu-Hua's dumplings when we get back, but right now, we have to go hunting," says Becky in a blunt tone as she practically shoved her brother out onto the porch. "Now finish eating that dumpling and go to the Hummer!"
"I'm older than you! You're not the boss of me!" exclaims Nate as he took another bite out of his treat. Becky shot him a murderous look in response, which instantly sent shivers down the middle sibling's spine. "I'll go wait by the Hummer now . . ."
"You better. . ." grumbles Becky as she watched her brother quickly make his way down the stairs. When she turns around, she sees that all eyes were now on her, all of us with varying expressions. ". . . What?"
"You are scary when you're irritated, that's all," I say with a shrug as I hand Elaine the twins' baby bag. "I think some of Randy's habits and mannerisms are finally rubbing off on you after all these years."
"Really?" asks the youngest Orton sibling as she turns to the rest of her family. "Did I really pull a Randy just now?"
"You did . . . Please don't do that again. It's kinda creepy if you ask me . . ." Marvin mumbles the last part as he walks down the steps. Becky looks at him in shock before turning to her to her other brother, who only shoots her a small grin in return.
"Let this be known right now: We may be biologically related, but I will never act like you. Never!" she tells him with an indignant look on her face as she points to his smirking one. "Do you hear me Mr.?"
"Oh I hear ya . . ." says Randy as he shakes his head. "But you're only denying what's true. . ."
"Don't try to use mind games on me!" Becky tells him with a shake of her head as she began to stomp down the stairs. "Mom, Dad, we'll be back later!"
"Hmm . . . she does act like you sometimes when she's mad . . ." I say with a shake of my head as I bring a hand to my chin.
"I know. She just won't admit it," Randy tells me knowingly as we turn back to his parents. "We'll be back for our girls after we finish hunting."
"Oh we know you will . . ." says Elaine as a playful smirk comes across her face. "But Randy, promise me this. Promise me you would actually let 'Manda hunt for her own meal instead of hunting down the poor critters for her. She should do some of her own hunting tonight Mr. Don't you forget it."
That promise instantly got some chuckles from the others over at the cars. I turn to Randy with a smirk on my face to see him looking away in embarrassment, which instantly gets me thinking. Oh, he wasn't planning to . . . Would he?
"Oh man . . . Were you actually planning to hunt my meal for me tonight?" I ask bluntly as I narrow my eyes at him. "Please tell me no. Please tell me that idea never went through your head."
"Well . . . the idea has crossed my mind . . ." he tells me guiltily as he scratches the back of his neck. "Sorry . . ."
"I could seriously slap you in the face for that . . . like seriously, I could," I tell him disapprovingly as I pinch the bridge of my nose.
"Hey you two, no fighting in front of the kids . . ." Bob tells us with a shake of his head as he gestures to the twins. Gabi had already fallen asleep during the whole conversation, and Dani looked like she was still fighting to stay awake.
"With the way these two look right now, I doubt they've noticed anything . . ." I say with a smirk as I make my way down the stairs. "We'll see you guys later! Tell my parents and grandparents we said hi!"
"Babe, wait for me!" I hear Randy call to me as I reach the bottom of the short staircase. I watch him say goodbye to his parents and the girls before joining me at the bottom of the staircase, still with that guilty look on his face. ". . . So, about the idea of me doing your hunting for you. . ."
"Don't you ever think about it again . . ." I tell him as I quickly slap him on the side of his head. "Besides, how do you expect me to learn how to hunt if you plan to do the hunting for me?"
"Hey! You always said that you learn best from observing an example . . ." Randy argues back in his defense as we walk back to his car. "So I figured the best way you can learn how to hunt is by watching me doing the hunting for you."
"That sounds like such a bad idea to me . . ." calls Nate as he shakes his head. "It's like you're forcing 'Manda to chicken out from the grand experience of hunting for her meal."
"Oh shut up Nate!" grumbles Randy as he takes his keys out of his pocket. "I wasn't planning to force 'Manda to chicken out."
"It sounds like it to me big brother . . ." says Becky as Marvin shook his head in agreement.
"C'mon, I've heard about guys doing things for girls to be chivalrous, but what you were thinking of was pushing it a bit too far lad," calls Wade as Monica could only look on in sheepish agreement. "This is the 21st century. Not the 1600s."
"Oh shut up!" Randy tells them tiredly as he walks over to the driver's side door. I take the front passenger seat, while Becky, Marvin, and Nate took the backseat. Randy puts the key into the ignition to start the engine, but before he starts driving, he turns to his passengers in the backseat with a warning glare. "Oh, and if any of you guys continue to get on my case about my idea of hunting for Amanda instead of letting her do it by herself, I will not hesitate to stop this truck in the middle of the highway and kick you out. Do I make myself clear?"
"Crystal" "Okay" "Fine, but you don't have to be so mean about it" were the resulting answers.
"Good, now we can go . . ." grumbles the Viper as he pulls away from the curb and onto the road, Monica and Wade following right behind us. The following half hour was filled with tense silence as Randy drove us toward the state park north of the city. We were now only a mile away from the park's main parking lot, but Randy decides to drive us onto an old dirt road that was off the side of the main one, driving us through a path of trees and shrubs till we were quiet a distance away from the main highway. "Okay, this spot should do it."
"Nice . . . There's no way a human would see us from the road, especially at this time of night," says Marvin as Randy cuts the engine. "Even with the full moon already up so high in the air, the light wouldn't be enough to help light the way."
"Yeah . . . and speaking of the full moon . . ." I say with a smirk as I look at the side mirror to see Monica and Wade quickly exiting her truck and running into the trees as fast as they could. "I think we got here just in the nick of time. I don't think my sis even had enough time to cut her truck's engine before running off with Wade."
"Hey, is it true that werewolves tend to be hornier during the night of a full moon?" Nate suddenly asks us as we all disembark the Hummer, earning him a grimace from me.
"Oh shut up Nate . . . That's my sister you're talking about . . ." I grumble for an answer as I quickly make my way over to the driver side of the Silverado. Yep, I was right. Monica didn't have enough time to turn the engine off, so I end up doing it for her.
"That question was pretty uncalled for Nate . . ." says Becky as she shoots him a disapproving stare. "Besides, werewolves are hornier during the night of a new moon, not a full moon."
"Please stop . . . Just stop," I tell them disapprovingly as we hear the sounds of my sister and her boyfriend's screams slowly turning into the animalistic sounds of the wolf. "Let's just not continue with that particular topic okay?"
"Fine . . ." mumbles Nate as he shrugs his shoulders. ". . . But I was just curious about it, for your information."
"Thanks . . . I definitely needed to hear that . . ." I grumble sarcastically as I feel Randy's arms wrap around my waist from behind. "Why do you have to have such an annoying brother Ran?"
"Trust me: I don't even know the answer for that question babe . . ." he tells me with a smirk as he pecks the side of my head. The sounds of feet hitting ground from somewhere on our right instantly grabs our attention, and we all turn around to see two large wolves, a black one and a dark brown one, walking over to us with their eyes trained on us. "Huh, so that's what you look like in wolf form huh Monica?"
"That's right . . ." the dark brown wolf tells us telepathically as she shook her head. "You should have seen me on the first night I changed. . . It wasn't pretty."
"Pretty, love . . . ?" says Wade, who lets out a soft bark that was probably his version of a chuckle. "During that first night, I had to teach you how to move like a wolf properly because you kept tripping on your own four paws! You were like a newborn deer fresh out the womb! It was cute, yet sad at the same time."
"Mock my skills why don't you!" grumbles Monica as she moves to head butt him in the shoulder, but Wade moves out the way before she could connect. He looks at her with what I think was a smug expression, which only helps to incite her irritation even more. "Wipe that smug look off your face Wade!"
"Make me love!" calls Wade as he begins to trot away from the rest of us, but then he books it into the trees with Monica running right after him, yelling something about kicking his ass once the night is over.
"Well that was an interesting conversation . . ." I mumble with an eyebrow raised as I continue to look into the patch of trees the two werewolves ran into.
"It was . . ." Randy tells me in agreement as he looks down at my face. "But I would have so loved to have been there to see Monica struggling to walk on her four paws like a newborn deer . . . And speaking of deer. . ."
"IT'S TIME TO HUNT EVERYBODY!" yells Nate as he cuts off Randy before he could say anything else. Randy shoots him a pissed stare in return, and once Nate sees it, an apologetic grimace comes across his ace. "Oh my bad . . . did I cut you off?"
"Yeah, you did . . ." Randy tells him as he narrows his eyes at his younger brother. "You know what? Let's split up. The three of you can go hunting in one group while 'Manda and I can go hunting as another group."
"I like the idea, except the part where Marvin and I have to be part of Nate's group . . ." mumbles Becky as she takes Marvin's hand in one of her own. "How come you two get the alone time, while Marvin and I are stuck with Nutty Nate."
"Because I'm the eldest sibling, that's why . . ." Randy tells her with a smile as he pulls me closer to his chest.
"That's not a good reason, if you ask me . . ." mumbles Marvin as Becky begins to lead him east. "And I don't think Becky wants to comply with your wish.
"No I do not . . ." mumbles Becky as she sniffs the air. "I got a few good ones just east of us. Mostly deer, but I do smell a bear close to them. . . Let's go Marvin.
"Hey . . . wait for-," calls Nate, but Becky and Marvin leave our sight before the middle Orton could finish his sentence. "Me . . . Great, I just got ditched by my sister and her soulmate, and I bet you two are going to do the same thing to me to right?"
"Well that's the plan . . ." Randy tells him with a childish smirk as he begins to drag me away. "Good luck hunting bro . . ."
"Thanks big bro . . . it's nice to know you have such confidence in me," Nate tells him sarcastically before running east after Becky and Marvin.
"Can we go hunting now?" I ask with an eyebrow raised as I look up at my mate. He looks down at me with a smirk before pecking my lips. "Do I take that as a yes?"
"Yes . . ." he says with a cheeky smirk as he undid his arms from my waist and takes my right hand in his left. "Now we can go hunting."
