Chapter 62: Family Reveal
Normal POV; the next day
"Damn, I didn't get enough sleep last night . . ." mumbled Nate as he slowly opened his eyes and sat up. He looked out the nearby window to see the Tennessee landscape passing them by, dark gray clouds hanging high in the sky above them, therefore completely blocking any view of the sun. He looked toward the front of the bus to see Hal at the wheel, humming a small tune to whatever song he was listening to on his MP3 player. When he turned to look into the back of the bus, he spotted the twins sleeping soundly in their crib, which was just outside the room that Randy and Amanda usually occupied when they slept. He saw his older brother leaning against the doorway to his room, looking inside with a look on his face that was half relief and half another emotion that he couldn't really put his finger on. Nate shook his head before jumping to the ground from his bunk, landing without a sound before making his way over to his brother. "Morning Randy . . ."
"Hmm . . . ?" mumbled Randy as he turned to see his brother looking at him. "Oh . . . morning Nate . . . Did you sleep well?"
"Yeah, uh, like a baby . . ." said Nate as he let out a small chuckle. ". . . But, I can't say the same for you big bro. Did you even try to sleep at all last night?"
"No . . . not really," said Randy as he turned around and went back to looking into the bedroom. Nate followed his gaze and looked inside to see Amanda sleeping stomach-first on the bed, her green t-shirt ridden halfway up her back, showcasing the white bandages that lay underneath. "I was having trouble sleeping considering I kept on thinking about what happened to Amanda last night."
"Yeah, I get it. I understand . . ." said Nate as he pat his brother on his shoulder. "But you really should catch a few hours of rest before tonight man. Raw's in Nashville tonight and you're opening the show."
"To be honest, I'm not really in the mood for wrestling tonight . . ." grumbled the Viper as he walked over to the front of the bus. "My mind is too occupied with the events of last night, and I'm not talking about what happened during the pay-per-view. . . I'm just trying to wrap my head around the fact that Jasper is involved in all this. Like, you got to be kidding me, our own cousin? How did this happen?"
"That's what I want to know too, but the only person that knows why is Jasper himself . . ." said Nate as the two took a seat on opposite side of the table. "I highly doubt Jasper mentioned his problems to his parents and siblings . . . He wouldn't want to get them involved in whatever he got himself into . . . I wonder how he got himself in this mess in the first place."
"That's what I want to find out too . . ." mumbled Randy as he crossed his arms over his chest. "Although, I may not ask it so civilly the next time we see him."
"Will you instantly get all 'Apex Predator' on his ass the next time you see him then?" Nate asked with a knowing look on his face as he pressed his hands onto the table.
"Maybe . . ." said Randy as he shook his head. "I just wished he could have done something to prevent what had happened to 'Manda last night. If she wasn't hurt physically or mentally when we found her last night in the junkyard, then maybe I would be more willing to hear him out if he wanted to tell his side of the story. . . But that wasn't meant to be because we ended up finding my fiancée with her back so cut up that it was virtually unrecognizable. I want to punch him, no, punt him in the freaking skull, more than anything, to be honest."
"Which is perfectly understandable considering the victim in this whole situation was your soulmate after all," said Nate as he waved his hand around. "Jasper mentioned in one of his calls to you last night that the guys he's working with kidnapped 'Manda to use her as a messenger for the WWE higher ups, and when we say higher ups, we're basically talking about Mr. McMahon out of all people. I'm guessing 'Manda's kidnappers have one big score to settle with your boss Ran."
"Yeah, but why . . ." mumbled Randy as he looked out the window. "Then again, why am I asking why? Mr. McMahon has a personality that's built for making enemies."
"Like you, for example . . ." said Nate as he pointed to Randy, the Viper shooting him a narrow-eyed glare in return. "Well, it's true though . . . Anyway, I'm guessing they picked 'Manda as the messenger for either these two reasons: They figured sending their message through a top wrestler in the company was the way to go, or 'Manda was just in the wrong place at the wrong time."
"Huh, either idea is actually pretty plausible . . ." mumbled the Viper as he brought a hand to his chin. "One thing's for sure though, is that I don't think this will be the last time we'll hear from these guys."
"Not by a long shot, in my opinion . . ."
At the sound of the feminine voice from somewhere behind them, the Orton brothers both turned around to see Amanda slowly walking over to them from the bedroom, a tired expression dotting her face as she reached the table.
"Morning boys," said Amanda as she shot them both a small smirk. "I hope you don't mind me jumping into the conversation, but I couldn't help but overhear you guys from the bedroom and I couldn't help but want to join in."
"On the contrary Ms. Anaconda, we don't mind you jumping into our conversation," said Nate as Amanda slowly slid into the seat next to Randy, being careful to not let her back touch the chair. "You may be able to answer some unanswered questions for us now that you're awake."
"Are you okay?" Randy quickly asked his mate before his brother could make another statement. "How are you feeling baby?"
"Well, I'm completely sore all across my back, and I'm still groggy, but that could still be from the cocktail of vervain and sedatives that got injected into me last night . . . Now that I think about it, last night was the first time I truly felt vervain's effects," Amanda told him as a thoughtful look came across her face. "Other than that, I'm perfectly fine, although I do worry that my tattoos have not survived the ordeal I went through . . . Yeah, that's going to be a lot of tattoo touch-ups to get through when I see my tattoo artist again."
"I'm sure Natalya can fix something up for that when we get to the arena later," said Nate as he shook his head. "But I'm surprised at your attitude this morning 'Manda. I figured after you went through hell last night, you would be in a rather sour mood this morning, but you are nothing like the like this morning."
"Nate's right . . ." said Randy as he pressed a hand to his mate's forehead. "Babe, are you sure you're okay? Maybe it's the after effects of the vervain that was injected into you last night that's affecting your mood."
"Randy, I'm fine, so can you please remove your hand from my forehead before I pop your arm out of your socket?" Amanda asked him in a simple, but blunt tone. Randy moved his hand quickly in response. "Thank you. Besides, you wouldn't want to deal with a dislocated shoulder before your Raw re-debut tonight right? Or are you still not in the mood for wrestling tonight?"
"Well, now that I know that you're relatively fine, my interest in working tonight has started to get back to normal levels . . ." said Randy as he gently wrapped his arm around his mate's shoulders. "Uh, me wrapping my arm around your shoulders isn't hurting your back is it?"
"It's only irritating it a little, but it's nothing I can't handle baby," 'Manda told him with a smirk on her face. "Besides, I've been wrestling just as long as you have Ran, and that's a long time. I've taken my fair share of shots to the back, so feeling back pain is nothing new to me."
"In other words, you have one tough fiancée on your hands big bro." said Nate as he shot us a look.
"You're telling me," said the Viper as he looked down at his mate. "But still, I figured you would be in a bad mood after what happened yesterday."
"Well, I am a little miffed about the whole kidnapping thing and the hits to my back, but I can't let that get to me forever . . . I'm not letting one night define who I am for the next two months," said Amanda as she shook her head. "Besides, can I really stay in a grumpy mood when I still have two beautiful little girls to raise?"
"Wow, motherhood is really mellowing you out . . ." said Nate as he looked at her with wide eyes.
"I know . . . And it's so nice," said Amanda as she shot him a smile, and then it switched to a scowl. "Oh gosh, motherhood really is affecting me. If this keeps up, I'm going to start thinking about carpools and baby scrapbooks. Actually, baby scrapbooks sound like a good idea now that I think about it. . . Oh gosh, it's already started. I need to get back to a wrestling ring, and fast."
"Don't worry baby. You'll get back to the ring soon enough, since you will be escorting me to the ring tonight after all," said Randy as he pecked her on the side of her forehead. "But first, we have to do something about your back bandages."
"And I know just the thing . . ." said Nate as he quickly got out of his seat and made his way over to his bag. "Natalya managed to catch me before I got back here to the bus last night. When she heard about what happened to you last night 'Manda, well, she instantly got her cauldron out and got to brewing and casting."
"Ah, Natalya brewed some potions for my benefit . . . Bless her heart." said Amanda as Nate walked up to her with three clear teardrop-shaped bottles in his hands, all of them with different colored liquids inside. "Uh . . . which is which exactly?"
"The bottle with the blue liquid inside is supposed to eliminate the soreness you're feeling in your back, and the red one is supposed to eliminate the excess sedatives and vervain in your system that your own vampire blood isn't able to completely eliminate . . ." explained Nate as he handed her the first two bottles. "Natalya also said that after you drink the red one, you should wait a good three or four days before you start breastfeeding the twins again . . . Something about the red one not being good for the girls if they ever get traces of it in your breastmilk or something like that."
"Well, I guess my boobs get a small break from breastfeeding duty after all," said Amanda as she looked down at her chest. "Ran, we have enough baby formula for the next three days right?"
"We got enough . . . And who says your boobs get a small break these next few days hmm?" Randy asked her in a slightly suggestive manner as he raised an eyebrow. "What if I want a turn?"
"Babe, calm you horny ass down." Amanda told him bluntly as she pushed his face away with a playful scowl on her face. "What about the orange one Nate? What's that supposed to do for me?"
"She told me that if your tattoos did end up being really damaged from the beating you took last night, this potion is supposed to restore them back to their original form." Nate explained to her as he handed her the last bottle.
"Wait a second? Natalya knows a spell that can replenish tattoos?" asked Randy as he looked at him with a blunt expression on his face. "Do you know how much money I would save each year if I used that spell instead of going to my tattoo artist for my yearly touchup?"
"I'm guessing a lot . . ." said Nate as he shook his head. "To be honest, with at least half the roster being the proud owners of tattoos of various shapes and sizes, Natalya could be running a mini tattoo-replenishing business if she wanted to."
"Yeah . . . And tattoo sleeve wearers like Randy, the Usos, and Reigns would be her biggest customers because they have so much body ink," said 'Manda as she quickly downed the blue potion before moving on to the red one. "So, moving back to what happened last night, did you two ever find out about why the people that kidnapped me last night are targeting the WWE higher ups?"
"Steph and Hunter mentioned that they did find something out that could be of interest to us . . ." said Randy as he shook his head. "But they said they weren't going to share anything until everyone is gathered at the arena in Nashville . . . They especially want to hear your input on this babe." the
"Okay then . . . on to my next question then," said 'Manda as she quickly downed the red potion in one gulp. "How are you guys feeling, knowing that Jasper is involved in this whole scenario and all?"
"Not very good, to be honest," said Nate as a sad expression came across his face. "Randy said it himself that the next time he saw Jasper, he would more likely get all 'Apex Predator' on him instead of hearing him out."
"Really now?" Amanda asked her mate as she turned to him.
"C'mon babe, you know how I can get when I feel betrayed, especially when it's by one of my own family members. . ." grumbled Randy as he looked out the window. Amanda let out a small breath before she wrapped her arms around her serpentine beau's tense shoulders. "I'm more likely to react with action, rather than my words."
"Yes, we all know how brutish you can be when you're mad and not in a right state of mind," mumbled Amanda as she rested her chin on his shoulder. "But Jasper is still your cousin. He's family Ran, and you can't forget that, no matter how much you want to kick the crap out of him."
". . . And he wants to kick the crap out of him a lot," Nate further added as he walked away, never noticing the sharp stare 'Manda was sending him. "I did not see your stare; therefore it does not have any effect on me."
"Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that despite the fact that Jasper got himself stuck in the wrong crowd, he's still your family and you should give him a chance to speak his piece babe," said 'Manda as she pecked him just behind his left ear. "If you were in his position, wouldn't you want a chance to explain yourself before the rest of the family jump to conclusions?"
". . . Dammit . . ." grumbled the Viper as he turned to look at his mate. "Why do you have to be right?"
"Because I like to be right . . ." Amanda told him with a small smirk on her face as he shook her head. "Besides, someone has to talk some sense into you before you do something you'll regret, and it's definitely not going to be Nate."
"Hurtful, but true . . ." mumbled the younger Orton as he returned to his seat, now dressed in a t-shirt and jeans. "Hal, how long will it take to get to Nashville now?"
"We just entered the city limits, we should be at the arena in another half hour." said Hal as he plucked his earbuds from out his ears, just in time to hear one of the twins start to cry from the back.
"Oh . . . that's my cue," said Amanda as he released her hold on her mate and slipped out of her seat. "Better get those girls fed before we reach the arena."
"Remember babe, you have to feed them the baby formula this time around and not your breastmilk." Randy quickly reminded her as she jogged to the crib.
"I know, I know," said Amanda as she picked up a disgruntled looking Gabi from out of the crib and walked back to her beau. "Here, you calm Gabi down while I make her and her sister some formula."
"Sounds like a plan . . ." said Randy as he held out his arms. Gabi made a smooth transition from mother to father before Dani's crying echoed out throughout the bus. Amanda let out a sigh before jogging back to the crib, returning to the front with Dani in her arms. "Hmm, as soon as one sister left the crib, the other started crying . . ."
"It's the grand life of a twin sibling I guess . . ." said Nate as Amanda handed Dani off to him. "Well good morning little Dani, had a good night's sleep?"
"I guess you can take the smile on her face as a yes . . ." said Randy as he looked at his second daughter's smiling face. He then turned to Gabi, who was looking at him with a curious expression on her small face. "What is it Gabi? Is there something on my face?"
"Maybe she just realized that you look tired Ran . . ." said Nate as he began to play with Dani's arms. "You didn't sleep last night, and I guess it's starting to show."
"Randy, did you stay up all of last night because you were worried about me again?" Amanda asked him as she began prepping her daughters' baby bottles. Randy shot her a sheepish look in response to her question. ". . . I should have known. Promise me you'll take a nap before Raw tonight. I don't want to see a tired looking Viper getting in the ring tonight okay? I don't care if sleep shouldn't really matter to us because we're vampires; I still want you well rested before work tonight."
"Yes baby . . ." Randy told her in a defeated tone of voice as he looked down at Gabi, who was now smiling up at him. "See that Gabi, your mommy is a very caring person."
"She's a very caring person, but it may come off as nagging when you think about it . . ." mumbled Nate as he turned to his brother, pointing to 'Manda as he did. "Remember Randy, that's who you're planning to spend your eternity with and I h-"
"Finish that statement and I will not hesitate to send the spiders straight to your dreams," Amanda threatened him in a cold voice as she kept her back turned to the rest of them. "Trust me, if you say another word out of your mouth, you will not be sleeping soundly for the next few months. I guarantee it."
"Yeah Nate . . . I think I'll take my chances . . ." Randy told him with a chuckle as Nate looked on with scared eyes as Amanda shot him an intimidating smirk. ". . . Yeah, I think my odds of surviving eternity with 'Manda will be just fine."
Amanda's POV; 1 hour later
"So, are you really okay, you know after what happened last night?"
Monica was looking at me unsurely as we walked down one of the backstage hallways to a small conference room where we were meeting everyone to talk about the events from the night before. We had reached the arena just as Wade's bus was pulling into the parking lot, Monica feverishly waving from her spot by the window as soon as she spotted us. Her bus driver decided to retire on to greener pastures just a few weeks ago, so it didn't take long before Wade and her decided to just share rides on his bus, Wade, especially, being quite happy about their new mobile living arraignments.
Speaking of Wade, he was walking on the other side of her, looking at messages on his phone with one hand while keeping hold of Monica's right hand in the other. And as for Randy and Nate, they were both waking on my left, with Randy pushing the girls' stroller forward while Nate was just looking out into space.
"Sis, I'm fine . . ." I tell her as I shake my head. "You don't have to be so worried about me, so you can stop wearing that worried look on your face Monica. Besides, the worried look is not for you."
"Was that supposed to be a sarcastic comment?" Monica asks me as a blunt look comes across her face. "Yeah, you're fine alright."
"See, I told you so . . ." I tell her as I give her a light punch to the arm. I notice Randy smirking at us from the corner of my eye as we turn the corner, instantly spotting Steph and Hunter standing in front of the room where we're supposed to meet everyone, both of them with disgruntled looks on their faces. "Those two do not look happy right now."
"You wouldn't be happy either if you found out that a group of unknown vigilantes was targeting your company for some unknown reason and sending their messages by attacking your unsuspecting talent," says Nate as he shakes his head. "But that's just my opinion. . ."
"And it sounds like a pretty good one, to be perfectly honest . . ." I mumble as we reach the power couple, their eyes softening to a more relieved look as soon as they look at me. "Are you two okay?"
"We should be asking you that 'Manda . . ." Hunter tells me with a shake of his head as he gestures to the door. "Anyway, let's go inside. We got some things to discuss, things that you'll be shocked to know."
"What's more shocking than finding out that your own cousin is part of a group of criminals that has an agenda against the higher ups of the company you work for and even used your own fiancée to send a message to them . . ." grumbles the Viper as we walk into the room to see everyone else already gathered inside, all of them seated and ready to hear the news that Hunter and Steph managed to get. "What's more shocking than that?"
"How about the fact that your brother being a part of this unnamed criminal group is all an act?" asks Stephanie as she looks straight at Randy, gaining a wide eyed stare from him, and the rest of the group for that matter, in response.
"You're telling us that Jasper being part of the group that hurt 'Manda is all an act?" asks Nate as he finally found his voice. Like . . . like he's some double agent?"
"Exactly . . ." says Hunter as he shook his head. "We all know that Jasper got signed to an NXT contract months ago right . . . Well, weeks ago his contract got terminated, and Vince terminated it himself."
"What?" Randy asks; the frustration apparent in his husky voice as he brushes a hand against his stubble-ridden chin. "Vince terminated Jasper's contract? He didn't even get to participate in his first match yet."
"That's what I was thinking too . . . My father doesn't let people go until he sees them in action first, which instantly made us suspicious. And so, I called my father up to get some answers. . ." mumbles Stephanie as she shook her head. "When I asked him about Jasper and told him about what happened last night, he told me he let Jasper go as part of some sort of plan he and the other board members have been working on these past few weeks."
"He didn't go into any details?" asks John as he took off his cap. "Like, nothing at all?"
"Nothing that he didn't want us to know about . . ." says Stephanie as she pinches the bridge of her nose. "My dad told me that Jasper was serving as a mole in a group that could actually be a threat to the WWE and that was it, nothing more and nothing less. Did Jasper mention anything about this to you two Randy, Nate?"
"Nope, him calling Randy last night was the first time either of us had contact with him these last few months . . . I called up Jasper's parents and siblings last night, but they all told me the same thing. None of them were contacted by Jasper these last few months either," mumbles Nate as he shook his head. "I guess the mission Mr. McMahon has given Jasper requires the absolute bare minimum of contact between family members . . ."
"What does McMahon plan to do about the criminal group targeting the company hmm?" asked Edge as he raised an eyebrow. "The guys behind this attacked one of our own. He has to do something."
"And he will, just not right now . . ." says Hunter as he shook his head. "There hasn't been enough info gathered to figure out what this group's master plan is. There's a possibility that they'll make their move during WrestleMania week, but besides that, we got nothing, even with Jasper inside their ranks acting as our spy."
"They may act during WrestleMania week?" asks Alicia as she raises an eyebrow. "Then that means they're willing to travel pretty far from Tennessee in order to carry out their plans. This year's WrestleMania is in California after all. . ."
"And with WrestleMania being such a huge attraction for people to come to, whoever these people are can easily blend in with the fans. . ." I further add as I bring a hand to my chin.
"In other words, they're going to be quite hard to find if they do decide to blend in with the crowd . . ." mumbles Hunter as he shakes his head. "That won't make things easier for us . . ."
"Amanda, did you manage to overhear anything when you were kidnapped last night?" Stephanie asks me as she looks my way. "Anything at all?"
"I was given a large dose of this mixture of sedatives and vervain, and then I got a second liquid injected into me that left me unable to use my psychic powers," I tell her as I can feel Randy slightly tense right next to me, his knuckles slowly turning white as he clutched the handles of the twins' stroller. "They made sure I didn't hear anything that resembled some sort of plan they had in store for the company . . . Sorry."
"So, what do we do now then?" asks Kaitlyn as she raises an eyebrow. "Do we just wait until those guys finally make their move?"
"That's basically all we can do, unless Jasper actually calls in with more info . . ." says Steph as she walks out the room, Hunter following right behind her as she exited.
"This is just great . . ." mumbles the Viper as he shakes his head. "Babe, I'll be right back . . . I just need a minute."
"Alright . . . Don't hurt yourself while you're gone," I tell him as he makes his way out the room. "Randy is so conflicted on this whole situation."
"I would be too if my cousin was in such a serious situation lassie," I hear Sheamus say as I take hold of Dani and Gabi's stroller. "I don't blame him for feeling this way."
"He probably won't get over it for a long while . . ." mumbles Nate as I feel his hand on my shoulder. "But until he does, we'll be right there supporting him all the way, won't we soon to be sister-in-law."
"Yeah . . . we will." I say as I continue to look at the door, the despondent look Randy had on his face just before he left still as clear as day inside my memories.
