A/N: Oddly enough, I thought of this before going to bed the other night. Don't judge me for what I think about before sleeping after you read this... although if someone else wrote this, I would judge them... you guys know I would...
Hint- This is set during Gilan's apprenticeship, so Gilan is like 16.
Halt and Gilan were sitting on the veranda, quietly enjoying their coffee. It was a nice, sunny day in Redmont Fief and there was a light breeze that made it a perfect day to be outside. That's when Gilan had a strange thought.
"Halt?"
Halt looked at him and he took that as a sign to continue.
"Why are Rangers so feared?"
"Most likely because of their accuracy and skill with the longbow."
"But why are they scared of our longbows? It's just a string and a stick." Gilan said thoughtfully.
Halt raised an eyebrow.
"It's not a string and a stick, it's a very powerful weapon. They'd be stupid not to fear it."
"But it is! If you unstring your bow, it's a stick. And the string is... a string."
"It is not! We are done having this conversation."
"It's just weird how simple things have such an influence on people. Maybe someday people will have green paper with old guys on it, and the older the guy is, the more it's worth!"
"...Did you hit your head? Do I need to go get a healer?"
"What? No! I'm just saying-"
Halt reached out and covered his mouth.
"Let's just go to a healer. You need your head looked at." Halt said, getting up and bringing Gilan with him.
Gilan pulled his hand away from him and took something from his pocket. He held a few up and showed them to Halt.
"See! I told you there was green paper with old guys on it! This one is Abraham Lincoln, he was assassinated."
Halt just stared. He couldn't believe his eyes.
Gilan gasped and said, "Do you think Tyler assassinated him?!"
"W-who's Tyler?"
"I went to the future and met him, he took Will. You'll get to meet Will too, he's your apprentice after me."
Halt fainted.
"Halt? Halt, are you okay?" Gilan asked.
Halt didn't respond. Gilan grabbed his iPhone and called Will.
"And he said I needed to see a healer. He doesn't even like green paper with old guys on it. So lame." He said as the phone rang.
