Chapter 64: Jasper Lets it Out
Amanda's POV
"So, how exactly are we getting to the arena hosting the Hall of Fame induction ceremony tonight?" I ask with an eyebrow raised as we reach the elevators after saying goodbye to our family back in the suite. "Did you rent us out a car for the night by any chance?"
"Indeed I have baby . . ." Randy tells me with a grin as he presses the down button. "I managed to rent out a nice BMW tonight. It's not a Bentley, but it'll have to do."
"Do you miss your Bentley back home?" I ask with a smirk on my face as the doors to the elevator on our right slide open to reveal an empty cart.
"I do miss driving my own cars, but it doesn't compare to how much I miss the family back home. . ." he tells me with a sheepish look on his face as he pulls me into the elevator. ". . . Especially Alanna . . ."
"Hmm . . . It may be a while before the WWE makes a stop in St. Louis . . ." I mumble as I bring a hand to my chin. "Hey! Why don't you just ask Sam if it's okay to let Alanna travel with us over the summer again like we did last year?"
"That does sound like a pretty good idea . . ." Randy tells me as he brings a hand to his chin. "But I don't know. What if Sam already has plans this summer for herself and Alanna . . . and Josh?"
"Then you should call her up and ask her if she does . . ." I say as I press the button for the lobby, the elevator doors sliding closed in an instant. "It doesn't hurt to check Ran. Who knows, Sam could actually be keen on the idea. . ."
"You're right . . . I might as well call her to check," he tells me with a shrug as the cart starts moving downward. "I'll probably call her tomorrow morning at the earliest."
"And if you actually forget to call her, I'll be happy to remind you . . ." I tell him as I pat his chest.
"I doubt I'll forget, but it's good to know that I have you to remind me of such things," Randy tells me with that mischievous smirk of his on his face as he wraps his arms around my waist. "I really do wonder how I became so lucky to have you in my life . . ."
"Yeah . . . Who would have thought your true other half would end up being your best friend that you've known since you were a baby huh?" I say with a shake of my head as we feel the elevator come to a stop. ". . . And the best part is this: Practically everyone we know thought we would end up as a couple in the end, except for us."
"Oh yeah . . ." said the Viper as he shook his head. ". . . Trust me: If we made a bet with anyone of them on whether or not we would actually become a couple, we would have lost a lot of money just from those bets alone."
"That would definitely hurt our bank accounts . . ." I say as I grimly think of the prospect, just as the elevator doors slide open. "Now, let's get moving."
"Alright . . ." Randy tells me as he adjusted his hold on me so that he only had one arm wrapped around my waist. "But I'm not letting you go Golden Girl."
"Huh . . . I figured you would have said sexy snake mama, but golden girl works too . . ." I say with a smirk on my face as we walk out of the elevator and into the busy lobby.
"Oh . . . so you like it when I say sexy snake mama?" Randy asks me with a childish grin on his face as we pass by a few tourists who instantly whip out their phones in order to take a photo of us.
"I've . . . gotten used to it," I say sheepishly as we walk out the door and into the cool California air. Randy guides me down the block and around the corner until we reach a black BMW that basically looks brand new. "Hmm, nice choice on the rental babe."
"But that's not all . . . Here's the best part," he tells me as he takes out the car keys from his pocket and presses a button, and in response, the top of the BMW began to open up and fold backwards. "It's a convertible!"
"Even better . . ." I say as I looked up at the sky. We waited until the roof was finally down, before we got into the car, Randy opening my door for me like a perfect gentleman before he went over to the driver side door. "How long will it take us to get to the arena again?"
"Even if we take the highway, which is the quickest route, it'll be a while to get there thanks to the infamous California traffic," Randy tells me as he takes out his sunglasses from one of the inside pockets of his jacket. "So, I think we're better off taking a more scenic route."
"Are you only suggesting that because you want to avoid the paparazzi and reporters as much as you can?" I ask him with a knowing smirk on my face as I cross my arms. Randy only answers me with a sheepish look on his face before he puts the key into the ignition and starts up the car. ". . . Of course, you were never fond of the paparazzi in the first place."
"Damn straight . . ." he tells me as he pulls us away from the curb and starts driving us down the street. "I'm . . . relatively used to them, but I still don't really like them."
"Of course you don't . . ." I say as I take my phone out of my purse. "Mingling with the press was never really your forte."
"And that's why I have you, because you always know what to say when I don't . . . Plus, it helps that you're a psychic after all," he tells me with a smirk as I look through a set of images on my phone. "What are you up to now babe?"
"I'm looking through images of possible wedding venues in and around St. Louis that your sister emailed me . . ." I tell him as I continue to look at my phone. "Since we're not even in our hometown most of the year anyway, I asked Becky to scout out some potential locations for me, and well . . . she's really done a good job at making it hard for me to choose a spot."
"My sister does have a tendency of overdoing it a bit," I hear Randy say to me as I notice his hand creep onto my knee. "How many locations did she scout out anyway?"
"A good ten of them . . ." I tell him as I shake my head. "She even sent me images of the location that hosted your wedding with Sam, and the St. Louis Country Club."
"In other words, she only sent you images of eight good choices . . ." Randy tells me as a knowing look comes across his face.
"Well, it would be weird for us to get married in the same place where you married your first wife. . ." I say as I shake my head at the idea. "And as for the St. Louis Country Club, isn't it usually just a vampire-only establishment?"
"That it is; that it is . . ." Randy tells me with a shake of his head. "Plus, the Club is already too busy a place when it comes to hosting vampire weddings and other formal events. It would probably take us months to get a reservation anyway . . ."
"I have a feeling you went through this before when you and Sam were choosing a venue for your wedding?" I ask curiously as Randy drove us onto a busy main street.
"Sam wanted to host the wedding at the club at first, but there wasn't a day available for us that we could make a reservation on," Randy tells me as a thoughtful look comes across his face. "Luckily, we found a better venue for the day she wanted, and it was smooth sailing from that day onward."
"I see . . . But your Dad's the leader of the coven now Ran," I say with a chuckle as we stop at an intersection to wait for the light to turn green. "I'm sure if we wanted to host the wedding at the country club, he could have probably snuck us in."
"True, but you know how much my mom hates it when people infringe on other people's big days . . ." Randy playfully whines to me as I let out a chuckle. "She wouldn't approve, even though I'm her eldest child."
"True that . . . She did ground you for a good month because you laughed at Nate after he tripped on stage during his elementary school graduation many years' back, if I do remember correctly." I say with a smirk as I put away my phone.
"No TV and no dessert after dinner . . . Those were some bad days . . ." Randy says with a shake of his head as I pat him on the shoulder.
"But back to the wedding planning and all . . . Did you have something in mind when it comes to the wedding venue, or anything else that involves the wedding for that matter?" I ask curiously as I bring a hand to my chin. "I'm open to any suggestions you may have, especially considering you were the one that's married before. Unlike me, who's going down the aisle as an actual bride for the first time in her life!"
"First and only time, might I add." Randy tells me as he wiggles a finger in my face before continuing to drive the car forward.
"First and only time . . . well, hopefully . . ." I say with a shrug as I notice Randy frown at my remark. "I wasn't serious with my previous statement Randy."
"I know you weren't, but I find it slightly unsettling that you said that, considering you know I don't like it when other guys try to flirt with you and all . . ." Randy tells me with a reluctant look on his face. "Seeing you with other guys that are trying to flirt with you just instantly irritates me to the bone."
"Would it help if I kick flirtatious guys in the balls to let them know that I'm not interested? Or just simply hitting them in the skull with my AKO will do?" I suggest with a serious look on my face, which instantly gets a laugh out of the Viper. "Well, would it?"
"It would, but you don't need to do that for my benefit baby . . ." Randy tells me reassuringly as he takes my hand in his. "If I ever see another guy trying to flirt with you, I just need to remember that you are my soulmate, and nothing can ever change that. I am yours, and you are mine."
"Till death do us part?" I say with a smirk on my face as Randy brings my hand to his face.
"Or for as long as we both shall live . . ." Randy responds back with a smirk of his own before he kisses my knuckles, lingering on the knuckle that held my engagement ring the longest. ". . . And as for suggestions for the wedding, I don't have any immediate suggestions for you, but I will have a second opinion ready for you if you really need it."
"Good, because I really need your help deciding on a color scheme . . ." I tell him as I tiredly shake my head. Randy's hand comes into my sight once again and goes for my chin, picking my head up so that I was facing him once again. "I never realized picking a color scheme would be so difficult until I started to think about colors for the wedding in the first place . . . Who knew picking out simple colors would start driving a person mad?"
"Is picking out a few colors really giving you that much stress?" Randy asks me hesitantly as I notice the disbelief creeping onto his face. I let out a small chuckle, never realizing I would get a reaction like that out of him. As soon as he realized what was really going on, Randy shook his head before bringing his hand to his chin. "You were just testing me weren't you?"
"Yep . . ." I tell him as we turn onto a street with nice residential homes on both sides. "I already picked out the colors . . . I just wanted to see how you would react if I ever did come to you looking stressed out. To put it simply, you looked a little unsure of yourself babe."
"That was a mean move you played on me just now babe." Randy tells me grimly as we stop at another streetlight.
"Sorry, but I just had to know . . ." I tell him as the sounds of a motorcycle engine come near us. I turn to my right to see a man riding a Harley pull up right next to our car. He was dressed in a simple t-shirt, jeans and leather jacket, but his helmet completely covered his head. Plus, the visor was completely tinted from the outside, so I couldn't get a read on his face.
"Huh . . . that's not a usual helmet to wear when you're driving a Harley, and I should know. I own one." I hear Randy mumble in a low voice as I turn around, his eyes suspiciously glaring at the motorcycle rider. The bike rider turns around to look at Randy, as if he had sensed that the Viper was staring at him. " . . . And his scent; it's familiar."
"It should be . . ." the biker's muffled voice echoed out from his helmet as he reached for his visor. He pushed it up to reveal that he was Japer Orton, Randy's cousin, out of all people. ". . . Considering we are family, after all."
"Nate?" I ask in shock, my thoughts going back to the night I was kidnapped and whipped, the night Nate and another guy kidnapped me. "What the . . . What the hell are you doing here?"
"Well . . . I'm here to explain myself . . ." he tells us in a rather sheepish manner as he snuck a look at his cousin. "Well, if you two will let me . . ."
"I will, but Randy . . ." I say as I turn to my fiancée, who only shoots his cousin a rather dark look. "Ran, what did we talk about this morning?"
"I know; I know . . ." Randy mumbles as he turns to me. ". . . But still, my first instinct is to punch the crap out of him because of what happened to you weeks ago."
"I'm sorry about my involvement in your kidnapping 'Manda," Jasper quickly tells us as he shakes his head. "I was only tasked with helping to bring you to the hideout. When he told me he was going to send a message to the WWE heads, I didn't think he would take things that far."
"He?" I ask as the light finally turns green. "Who's 'he'?"
"I'll explain, but we should probably find a better place to talk at first," says Jasper as the car behind us starts to blare it's horn impatiently. "C'mon, I know a place we can talk."
"Fine, but you better tell us everything Nate . . . I don't want you to leave out any details." grumbles the Viper as he puts the car back in drive. Jasper just shakes his head before driving forward, followed closely by us. We follow him until we were going toward the opposite direction of the arena, stopping when we reached an empty lot behind an old abandoned warehouse.
"Are you ready to listen to what your cousin has to say?" I ask Randy as he stares out at his cousin a few feet away as he parked his bike and got off his ride. "You're not going to try to deck Jasper as soon as you step out of the car are you?"
"No, I'm trying not to . . ." Randy tells me with a shake of his head as we take off our seatbelts and exit the vehicle. "But he better make sure he watches his words. Any one of them can set me off."
"Randy . . ." I say in a warning tone as I narrow my eyes at him. "Please, try not to go into Viper mode."
"If he does, I don't blame him . . ." says Jasper as he walks over to us with a sheepish look on his face. ". . . Especially when you consider what happened to you weeks ago 'Manda."
"Let's forget about that for a minute okay? I've already put it behind me. Randy, not so much . . ." I tell him as I sneak a look at the sulky-looking Viper. "So Nate, we're all ears. What do you have to tell us?"
"Well, as you probably already know, my contract with the WWE got terminated a few months back, all because Mr. McMahon wanted me to go undercover as an operative in an organization that has set its sights on the WWE," says Jasper as he lets out a deep breath. "The organization is completely comprised of people that got fired from the WWE or were simply let go from the company without a reason."
"So that's why your contract was terminated?" Randy asks as his tense shoulders start to relax. "It's all part of your cover . . ."
"Exactly; the only requirement this organization has is if your job with the WWE got terminated or not," says Jasper as he places a hand on his hip. "If that's the case, then you're instantly allowed membership."
"Who's the leader behind this organization?" I ask curiously as I watch a few cars pass us by, none of the people inside were looking our way.
"His name is Nicholas. He's a vampire like us and used to be a trusted advisor of Mr. McMahon before he got cut from the company . . ." Jasper tells us with a shake of his head. "After my contract was terminated, Nicholas approached me outside my apartment and offered me a position in his group."
"And did you gain his trust?" Randy asks his cousin as he crossed his arms over his chest.
"So much so, that I'm one of his top guys in the organization . . ." Jasper tells us with a shrug. "I've been funneling info to the higher ups in WWE ever since. Nicholas was actually planning for the organization to attack once WrestleMania finishes airing tomorrow, but I don't see how that's going to happen now that Vince knows what Nicholas is planning."
"What was Nicholas planning exactly?" I can't help but ask as I raise an eyebrow.
"Just some systematic attacks to the WWE offices all across the country, including the main one in Connecticut . . ." says Jasper. "Once the offices were taken care of, it wouldn't be long before he went after the main roster and the NXT roster. . . Nicholas wants the company. He wants to recreate it in his own image . . . Too bad that's not going to happen now."
"Do you know what Vince plans to do to stop him?"
"He told me that I rather not know, but he did say his plan was full proof . . . whatever that means." says Jasper as a small smirk comes across his face.
"So, what are you supposed to do now?" Randy asks his cousin with a rather curious look on his face. "Do you just go back to the organization and continue with your mission?"
"Well, Nicholas originally sent me out to monitor the Hall of Fame ceremony and WrestleMania tomorrow before the attack was supposed to commence. He's not expecting me to contact him till after the final minute of the biggest event on the WWE calendar . . . But he's not getting that call," Jasper tells us as his smirk gets larger. "As of this moment forward, I'm finally done with that mission. I'm a free man."
"So, does that mean you're going to get your company termination reversed now?" I ask hopefully as I start combing my hair with my fingers.
"Actually, I can ask Vince for my contract back, but I'm not going to . . ."
"What?" Randy asks in complete shock as I look at Jasper with wide eyes. "Why won't you ask for your contract back?"
"Well . . . before this whole mission thing started for me, I always thought wrestling would be the career choice for me. I figured I would just live my following the lead of my relatives and continue the great wrestling lineage of the Orton family," mumbles Jasper as he shakes his head. "But then I started doing all this undercover work, and it made me question whether or not wrestling was really the right thing for me. It made me think over the idea of if wrestling is the only thing I should really do in my life."
"So, you're telling us this whole mission thing you went on has made you think over your life?" Randy asks his cousin bluntly as he shot him a look. "What, like you went through a premature midlife crisis?"
"Something like that . . ." Jasper says as he lets out a small chuckle. "It made me think over things, and I realized that even though I do have to be the skills to be a great wrestler, I don't really have the passion to pursue it for a long-term career. . . I want to help people, by stopping crime, supernatural crime that is . . ."
"Oh gosh . . . you're starting to sound like my brother," I say as a small smile comes across my face. "You know what, if you want to move into a more supernatural crime-fighting profession, I think my brother can help you with that."
"You think he can?" Jasper asks me as a hopeful glint shows in his eye.
"I think he can. He is a supernatural detective after all . . ." I say with a chuckle as I stretch out my hand. "Give me your phone. I'll input my brother's number and you can call him. He can help you get a start in the whole crime-fighting field."
"Thanks 'Manda . . ." Jasper tells me with a grateful look on his face as he takes his phone out his pocket. Once he gives it to me, I quickly input Mason's number into the contacts list before handing it back to him. "Now then, since you guys are all dressed up, I suppose you have a prior engagement to get to."
"Oh yes . . . the Hall of Fame ceremony is just calling our name . . ." I say with a smirk as I shake my head. "What are you going to do Jasper?"
"Well . . . I'm leaving California to be honest . . ." says Jasper as he outstretches his arms. "I'm going to fly back home and explain to my family what's been going on with me this past few months. . . They really deserve one."
"Of course they do . . ." I say with a smirk as I pat him on the arm. "Take care of yourself Jasper . . . and I hope to see you at the wedding."
"Wait a minute . . ." Jasper stutters out as he shoots me a shocked glare. "Are you saying . . . Are you saying I'm still invited to your wedding?"
"Of course . . . You're family Jasper, and what happened with me is just water under the bridge now . . ." I say with a chuckle as I shake my head. "You've always been invited."
"Thanks 'Manda . . ." Jasper tells me in relief before turning to his very silent cousin. "Well Randy, do you feel the same way about me being invited to your wedding?"
"At first, I didn't want you anywhere near the wedding . . ." grumbles the Viper as his face starts to soften up. "But after hearing your explanation just now, I don't have the same qualms anymore."
"So were good?" Jasper asks as he outstretches his hand.
"We're good . . ." Says Randy as he shakes his cousin's hand before the two go into a man hug. "Take care of yourself man . . ."
"You too you guys . . ." says Jasper as I quickly hug him before he starts jogging toward his bike. "I'll see you two around."
"Bye!" I say with a wave as we watch him het on his ride before driving away and disappearing behind a corner. "Randy, did you hear what you wanted to hear?"
"Yeah, I did . . . I was shocked by a few things he said, especially when he mentioned the change in careers thing, but overall, I'm happy for him." Randy says with a smirk as I wrap an arm around his waist. "Hopefully this new career thing works out for him."
"I'm sure it will." I say with a smirk as I turn us around and head straight for our car, Randy smirking at me the entire time. "Now come on, we have a ceremony to get to."
