The girls of Teams RWBY and JNPR sat more or less in a circle on the finely carpeted floor of Blake and Mina's rather spacious room, Jaune and Ren having been 'banished' by Yang and Nora to allow for 'girl time," as they called it. In truth this entailed little more than the swap of gossip typical at lunchtime at Beacon, interspersed with the trading of beauty tips, gleeful declarations about how fluffy the rug was made by a certain hammer-wielder as she rolled back and forth upon it, and the occasional good-natured digs at the two boys who weren't there to defend themselves. By ten o'clock, Mina had stretched out on the floor and was resting her head in Blake's lap as Blake gently ran her fingers through her hair and over her ears.
It was their third night at the beach resort, and if Blake had it figured right, they'd all started falling into their own relaxing little routines. They would all meet up for breakfast, then hit the beach until lunch, after which Weiss and Pyrrha would take to the spa, Nora would drag Ren out to the nearby tide pools to help her catch helpless shellfish, Jaune, Ruby, and Yang would spend some more time on the beach, and Blake would read to Mina under the beach umbrella well beyond the reach of the surf. Next would come dinner, and finally they would all spend the rest of the evening availing themselves of the many amusements to be found in the resort's arcade and game room before retiring to their rooms for the evening. Tonight was different though, Nora and Yang having decided to commandeer Blake and Mina's room and gathering the party's seven female members "Just cuz." Yang had brought a bag of chips, Ruby a tray of cookies, and Pyrrha had even gone so far as to borrow the resort's kitchen to make several platters of surprisingly good Baklava, one of which she'd left with Jaune and Ren; it may as well have been a party.
"I'm sorry, I wasn't thinking about your diet when I made these…" Pyrrha apologized as Yang moved to throw a pillow at Ruby, and was blindsided by Nora in turn, "I just don't get the chance very often and I forgot to ask if you could eat it…"
"Do not be Miss Nikos," Mina spoke, not moving from her position with her head in Blake's lap, "My… particular… needs should not be cause for the rest of you to restrain yourselves; It does smell delicious though…"
Blake smiled in assurance, "She means it Pyrrha, trust me," She ran her fingers over Mina's ears again, causing her to hum contentedly, "She's not the type to hold anything against people,"
Pyrrha sighed with relief, "Still… it's unfortunate that you've got such a delicate constitution Mina…"
"You really shouldn't worry about her so much Pyrrha," Weiss said dryly, "It just might come back to bite you…"
Mina chuckled, "That was one time, Miss Schnee…"
"Um…" Pyrrha looked uncomfortable.
Blake sighed, "Can we not joke about this? It's serious,"
"Very well Dearest,"
"Alright ladies!" Yang abruptly sprang up from the floor, Ruby and Nora's pillows falling away from her face as she stood, "Time for somethin' different…" She looked over to Nora mischievously, "Pass out the cups,"
"Yang, what are you doing?" Blake asked as Nora eagerly set about passing out a stack of plastic cups.
"Nothing good, no doubt," Weiss muttered.
And indeed Yang was absolutely up to no good, as from her bag she produced a large bottle of red liquid. Blake had been wondering why Yang had brought the small duffel into the room when she'd corralled them all in here, and now she knew.
"Yang that had better not be-!"
"Take it easy Princess!" Yang cut her off, "We ain't in Vale, ya know… technically speaking… So it's not technically illegal… I think…"
Oh dear…
"Aaaaanyway…." Yang continued over Weiss' infuriated protestations, "We're gonna play a drinking game!"
Should've known…
"Precisely what manner of game, Miss Xiao Long?" Mina asked; Blake could hear the smirk in her voice.
"No worries Mina, It ain't spin the bottle or anything like that…"
"Oh?" Mina sat up, head tilted to the side.
Blake had to repress the urged to hold Mina in her lap, but after successfully resisting it was nonetheless with a slightly disappointed quality in her voice that she added, "Not truth or dare either Yang; especially not with alcohol involved,"
"Naw, nothin' like that," Yang shook her head, "We're just gonna share our embarrassing stories over drinks! It's good to get that stuff out and off your chest once in a while, right? And besides, It's just us girls, right?"
"Um, Yang…" Ruby spoke up nervously, "I don't think I should-,"
"Nonsense Rubes," Yang preempted the objection, swirling the bottle in her hand, "Red wine's good for your heart… or somethin' like that…"
Blake looked over to Weiss nervously, hoping she'd quash this nonsense before it got out of hand.
Weiss rolled her eyes and heaved a sigh, "Technically speaking, this isn't Vale…"
Blake couldn't believe what she was hearing, "W-what? You're not going to put a stop to this?"
Weiss shot her a quizzical look, "Why? Until I came to Beacon I was in the habit of having a glass with dinner every night…"
Blake just stared.
"…I like a dry red…" Weiss added in a weak defensive coralarry.
"Must be a rich people thing…" Ruby whispered to Nora, who nodded sagely.
"See! Even the Princess is on board!" Yang exclaimed in triumph, uncorking the bottle, "Drinks all around!"
As Yang eagerly set about the task of filling the seven little plastic cups, Blake, Ruby, and Pyrrha exchanged nervous looks. Weiss and Mina seemed less ruffled; the former being accustomed to it and the latter just being a good sport. Nora finally, was positively giddy, but then, she always was.
"Alright," Yang announced, resuming her seat setting the now partially empty bottle down, "The rules are simple: somebody tells a story, and then they drink, or you could drink first, I ain't picky. Any volunteers to start?"
"This being your scheme, Miss Xiao Long," Mina raised her cup with a smirk, "I think perhaps that it ought be you, or Miss Valkyrie, who begin,"
Thank you so much Mina…
Yang thought it over, "…Alight…" Yang shot Nora a look, "You wanna start, or should I?"
Nora downed her entire cup in one gulp, "Oooh! Me first!"
"Well I guess that settles that…" Weiss noted with a raised eyebrow.
Nora leaned forward conspiratorially, sweeping her eyes over her assembled friends in much the same fashion as when she would recount her dreams in exaggerated fashion at lunch time, "It was-,"
"Is this gonna be about Ren?" Ruby asked, eyes darting nervously between Nora and the as-yet untouched red liquid in her cup.
"Yes…"
"We're supposed to tell stories about ourselves," Yang chided, downing her own cup, "Lemme show ya how it's done…"
"And that's how I got to second base!" By the end of Yang's rather lengthy and surprisingly detailed account, almost a half hour had passed, and Mina had taken a sip of her cup as well, though she hadn't drained it.
Blake shot Mina a jealous look, "Is that true?"
"It was completely accidental, I assure you Dearest," Mina defended, before drinking more deeply from her cup now, "It meant nothing,"
"Alright…"
"I'll go next," In an instant Yang's anecdote was utterly forgotten as Weiss spoke up, much to everyone's surprise.
"Are you sure you're okay Weiss?" Ruby asked with concern, "Maybe you've had too much…"
"What? I can be fun! I've only had half a glass Ruby, and besides, I could drink all of you under the table,"
"That sounds like a challenge," Yang stood with the bottle again.
"Put that down before you hurt yourself Yang," Weiss commented dryly, finishing her own drink.
"Oh no," Yang shook her head, topping her cup off again and then snatching Weiss' to fill it as well, "Sorry girls, me and the Princess have to settle this-,"
"The Princess and I," Weiss corrected smugly.
"Oh it is on!"
Twenty minutes later, Yang was flat on her back, and Weiss was sipping the last of her tenth glass.
"You know…" Blake spoke up hesitantly, "I would have thought Yang would've won that… if only because you're so much smaller…"
"I've got a-," she broke off to blink a few times and shook her head as though to recollect her wits, "I've got a tolerance because I… uh… I've you know… stuff…"
"I think perhaps you have had enough as well…" Mina suggested, cradling her second glass, only half full.
"I…um… I'll not… snot disagree…" Weiss was making a visible effort not to slur.
"Okay partner…" Ruby got to her feet, not having actually touched her drink, "I'll help you get back to your room…"
"But I didn't-,"
"I think you getting drunk is embarrassing enough, don't you?" Blake urged.
Weiss put a hand up to rub her temple as Ruby pulled her to her feet by the other arm, "... Y'know… Yeah…"
Nora sprang up in front of the door, "Not happening!"
"Bu-,"
"You aren't leaving without tellin' a story and drinkin' that dry!" Nora asserted gleefully, jabbing a finger at Ruby's untouched cup.
"But…" Ruby's arms went slack, letting Weiss stumble over to brace herself against the wall, "But…"
Nora's mischievous smile didn't flag.
"Oh fine…"
"Ruby, you don't have to-,"
"No, I-I can do it!" Ruby shook her head before Pyrrha could finish her sentence, though she didn't seem very confident, "There's a first time for everything, right?"
"That's the spirit, Miss Rose," Mina encouraged, finishing her glass. It was hard to tell on account of that accent that Mina had never quite shaken, but Blake could swear that she was slurring a bit too…
Blake and Pyrrha, for their part, had stopped at one glass out of good sense. Nora on the other hand, had only been denied a second glass by Weiss and Yang's drinking contest, which had finished off not only the first bottle Yang had brought out, but also a second bottle that Yang had also stowed in her bag. Mina alone had indulged a second glass, finding that the first did not make her sick. Blake had been hesitant, but didn't stop her; it wasn't very often that Mina got to share in these experiences after all…
Nervously, Ruby picked up the cup and held it to her lips, hands shaking, "O-okay… H-here I go…"
With that, Ruby tilted her head back and poured the wine past her lips. Almost immediately she visibly flinched, almost convulsively so, and spat it back out, coughing, "Nope!"
"You've got-," Nora began.
"I draw pictures of everyone in my sketchbook, OKAY!" Ruby exploded, desperate not to be made to drink a drop more of it, her face rapidly reddening like a beat, "Now come one Weiss, we're outta here!"
"Yeah okay…" Weiss agreed, shuffling towards the door, "But don't get any ideas just 'cause I'm drunk!"
Ruby let out a sigh as she escorted her partner out of the room despite a dissatisfied Nora, "I won't Weiss…"
"I've seen that sketchbook Ruby!" Weiss' voice started to fade as they moved away down the hall.
"Yang thinks I do good…"
"Well! Yang thinks you do well! And Yang is hardly-," And with that Nora shut the door to the room again.
"Who's next~?" Nora chirped.
"I… I think that we should take Yang out…" Pyrrha suggested by way of alternative, "She's not in any condition to move herself…"
Thank you Pyrrha…
"Awww…"
"Easy Miss Valkyrie…" Mina piped up, "I would be happy to share-,"
"No you don't," Blake shot her a horrified look, "We've discussed this Mina-,"
Mina leaned in close, draping her arms over Blake's shoulders and leaned in for a kiss, "What Dearest? I was only going to share my-,"
"Okay, I think you've had too many…" Blake cut her off again.
"It was only …" Mina seemed to pause for consideration, one of her hands reaching down the back of Blake's shirt, "… two cups… I believe…"
"Okay, bed time," Blake said preemptively, standing up and heaving Mina to her feet.
"Oh, I love bedtime!"
"Not that kind of Bedtime, Mina!" Blake scolded in a hushed voice before turning to Pyrrha with a slightly desperate look, "Could you and Nora get Yang out?"
Pyrrha nodded with a blush, "Sure… Nora?"
"Oh alright… But I want details tomorrow~!"
Blake sighed exasperatedly, "Just… Please show yourselves out…"
As Pyrrha and a slightly put-out Nora set about the task of dragging the unconscious Blonde out of the room, Blake helped Mina up and set her down on the bead, "What am I going to do with you?"
Mina reached up to unbutton the first few buttons of her own blouse, "Whatever you want, Dearest…"
Mina was visibly flushed, her cheeks pink and her eyes unfocused. Blake wouldn't have thought what Mina had drunk would have affected her this much, but then, Yang had filled the cups to the brim and Mina had taken both on an empty stomach… perhaps she should have seen this coming…
Blake averted her eyes, "Not tonight Mina; you're drunk,"
"Oh, what does that matter?" Mina complained, huddling close to Blake as she too slipped under the covers, "We're alone now…"
"I'm not comfortable with that… Not while you're so out of it…" Blake turned to face her, "I'd just be taking advantage of you,"
Without warning, Mina pushed Blake onto her back and straddled her under the covers, pressing herself against Blake and leaning in to whisper in a very startled Blake's ear, "What then if I felt like being taken advantage of?"
"M-Mina!" Blake shouted, "I said no! Now get off!"
Mina's expression instantly changed from a saucy smirk to horrified regret as she was very quickly sobered by the rebuke, pulling away and looking anywhere but at Blake, "I-I… Dearest… I'm sorry… I don't know what came over me…"
Blake blinked a few times, propping herself up on her elbows. She hadn't expected Mina to give up that easily. She'd meant what she'd said of course, she was absolutely not going to take advantage of Mina's present lack of judgment, but she hadn't meant to hurt her… As it was… Mina looked terrified…
"Mina…"
Mina shook her head, "No I… you are right of course… I should not have indulged…" She was rambling now, and getting off the bed, "I will… I will get some fresh air before I retire, I think…"
"Wait! Mina!"
But Mina had already bolted from the room the first tears already streaming down her face, leaving Blake to wonder what she'd done; yes, Mina was generally more… eager than Blake might always have liked, but she'd never broken down in tears when denied before… And then there was her face before she'd run…
