"Hey losers, it's Maya" I said into my best friend's apartment buzzer. It was 7 and I was here to pick her up as I had at this exact time every day for years. Today, however, was different. It was our last day of senior year. Riley opened the door and she wore a huge smile on her face. I couldn't help but smile back. "Hey riles. You ready?" Of course!" She grabbed her bag off of the couch and dragged me out of her house. I laughed at her typical quirkiness. "Somebody's eager for their high school education to end." This surprised me as we'd both dreading this day all year. It was sure to lead to goodbyes. Riley had been watching me and responded to my unspoken thoughts "this day is the first day of the rest of our lives. It's exciting!" Her voice held all the enthusiasm in the world. Leave it to Riley to be the optimist. I rolled my eyes "if you say so". Our subway pulled up then and she let our conversation drop as we boarded. Our ride was silent, which was unusual. I knew what she was thinking about though; her future. We both had difficult choices to make. She'd been accepted to both NYU and San Diego State University. She was still trying to decide and the deadline was in 2 days.
