I postponed the 36th chapter to write this. Majority wins! Here we go!

And, I changed my mind! This isn't going to be all smiles and fluff. BRING ON THE ANGST AND THE HURT/COMFORT!

An Awkward Weekend

Part Two

"Who knew that conspiring against me would make you so social?" Ellie teased as she finally relaxed her nerves.

"That whole defection thing is never going to work on me." Derek retorts, throwing his arm around her casually. She knew it her comment wouldn't throw him off, but it was really a distraction for her. The warming tingly feeling that she felt whenever she was around him really messed up her concentration.

"It's not for you, honey." She smirked, tilting her head up to look at him. They hated the whole pet-names thing that couples did, they just simply did not do it. Derek rolled his eyes, knowing that she was still teasing.

"You can go for it, you know." Derek says after a few beats, taking his arm off her and shoving both hands in his pockets. "I won't do anything."

Ellie looked at him dubiously. "And I'm supposed to believe you?"

"Believe what you want." He says, giving her space, but not moving from behind her.

"Just roll the damn ball already!" An arrogant, douche-y voice calls from behind them. Jackson presumably.

"No pressure, El." Derek smirks from behind her. Ellie takes a big breath, pulling back all the way to make her move. Just before Ellie lets go of the ball, she feels a movement behind her. She misses the angle of her swing, causing her ball to almost miss the gutter and into another lane.

The whole time she watches, her eyes wide and her hands over her mouth and nose in shock. He jedi mind-tricked her!

Seconds later she composes herself and turns slightly, ignoring the smirks from the boys. She leaves with dignity, shoving past Derek.

God he's lucky that he's attractive, she thought. She takes her spot next to Allison and huffs, glaring playfully at Derek as he flashes a prideful smile. "Stupid Psychology major." She grumbled.

"They're smarter than they look, guys." Erica says. "They actually have think about things other than sports and sex."

"He freaking jedi mind-tricked me!" Ellie fumed. Really, she shouldn't be all that surprised that he was able to do that. The fact that he matched her wits was one of the reasons that she loved him.

It was now Allison's turn. Ellie had gotten up to go to the bathroom while she had the chance. "Where are you going?" It was Lydia Martin's question, of course.

"To the bathroom, Lyd." Ellie answers dismissively, without turning around to look at her. Lydia huffs, following her oldest friend out of the area. When they reach the bathroom, Ellie quickly does her business, knowing that Lydia was in there. As she finishes up, Lydia finally says something.

"Is that ring on your finger a center cut four-carat or six-carat solitaire?" Ellie freezes at the half-open stall door. The expression on Lydia Martin's face in the mirror was quite intimidating. "I couldn't really tell, considering the fact that you were hiding it!" Ellie flinched at the pitch.

"I was going to tell everyone, Lyd." Ellie promise, the obvious regret shining in her eyes. "I was just waiting for the right time."

"God, Ellie! What do you care what we think? You never did before!" Lydia hisses.

"I don't know. I mean, he means a lot to me. I don't want to drift away from you guys just because you don't like him. I don't want to have to choose. Because I couldn't." Ellie's admission stunned Lydia. It's a lot more than she expected. "And it's four-carat." She adds lightly, trying to eliminate any tension.

Lydia beams brightly, having forgiven Ellie already about hiding her engagement. She was actually starting to appreciate Ellie's fiancé after seeing the way they compliment each other. They fit each other perfectly. From her observation, Derek was the loner type and Ellie's personality was quite attention grabbing. Lydia knew Ellie to be random and strange, and Derek seems to be amused by the things that she does. They seemed to have the same quick wit (when Derek actually used it). And most importantly, the obvious love that she could sense between them. The way they looked when each other when their gazes connected, the obvious comfort they took in each other's presence.

They were happy.

To her, that's all that mattered.

She embraces Ellie tightly, "I'm so happy for you, Ellie." Ellie smiles behind Lydia's back, relieved that with her omission aside, Lydia was still happy for her.

"Thank you." Lydia lets go and touches up her lip gloss. And just like that, serious conversation aside, Lydia was acting like nothing had happened. She knew that Lydia wouldn't say anything. It just wasn't her thing. Lydia was her best friend and knew all her secrets, and this was no different. Lydia Martin just simply kept her mouth shut. She didn't even need to ask.

"Come on, Ellie." Lydia urges. "I really don't want to lose to Jackson." Ellie nods and follows the red head out of the bathroom, feeling a ton better than when she went in. Ellie was feeling a bit more confident as she neared the rest of her friends.

Her confidence did nothing to improve her game.

The girls lost to the boys by one strike. If Jackson wasn't such a bowling god, they probably would have won. Ellie had to admit how painstakingly perfect Jackson was for Lydia. They were perfectionists.

"I need you to say it." Stiles smirked, enjoying the look of utter defeat on his sister's face. "Out loud."

Scott grins at his best friend, as he nudges Derek, who's standing next to him with a large smile. He'd been waiting all night for this moment. She scowls, "Fine. Stiles is the Stilinski with the brains and the beauty. Blah, Blah ..."

Erica rolls her eyes, but can't help the small grin that makes it to her face. Allison's lips were pursed together tightly, but Ellie knew that she was trying to stifle a giggle. Lydia was standing expectantly at the entrance, presumably ready to leave, and her boyfriend was watching the exchange between siblings with amusement.

Allison decides to end Ellie's slow death, "So we're all going to need to change before we go to Bartoni's. Meet there in an hour?"

They all agreed and parted ways to their respectable cars. Ellie's journey to their car was made grumpily, with Derek following behind her with a pleased look on his face. Ellie opens the door to the car and almost climbs in but is instead halted by Derek.

"It's just a game, El." His soft tone is teasing, because he knows damn well that it wasn't about the game. Ellie turns, shoving him away.

"Shut up." She says in her pouty voice. "I hope you know you're marrying a loser." Ellie says with a playful smile.

Derek returns it, saying, "If it's any consolation, you're marrying a winner." Ellie laughs quietly, putting both hands on his face and lightly brushes her lips against his. Before he could pull her closer, Ellie let out a maniacal chuckle and hopped in the car, shutting the door.

Derek shook his head and let his fiancé have that one. Her ego was wounded, and she liked to win.

Dinner could have gone better.

A whole LOT better.

"So you've been lying to me this whole time?" Ellie fumed. "Whatever happened to honesty? We're engaged, we have to talk about these things!"

"You're engaged to him?" Scott and Stiles say at the same time. The shock and hurt was there in their expressions, along with mild disapproval.

Ellie hadn't noticed that Scott had left the restaurant. "I-I was going to tell you guys during dessert."

"Were you?" Derek shouts at her.

"Of course I was. I don't like secrets," Ellie narrowed her eyes, "much like the ones you were keeping from me."

"Let's go back to the hotel." Derek suggests, refusing to argue with her in front of her friends.

"No, I want to talk about this right now!" Ellie refuses. "Why did you tell me that you weren't going to sell the shop? Were you even planning on looking for a new location here?"

"No ... I don't know." He was conflicted. "I don't know if I want to pick up and move back here."

"Were you going to talk to me about this?" Ellie spat. "Were you going to let me believe that you were on board?"

Derek sighs in frustration. "I don't know." By this time, all of her friends were watching.

"Well, when you figure it out, I'll be at my dad's." Ellie spits angrily, taking her bag out of their car and almost slamming the door.

"I'll take you." Stiles steps up, pulling Erica closer to him, but glaring at Derek.

"Thanks." Ellie says softly, following her brother and his girlfriend to his car. She briefly takes one more look at him and shuts the door.
