Our Crazy Lives- Chapter 7
A/N: The links for the outfits of the girls are all on my profile if you want to check them out
Leaf's POV
"Ooh, I like this one too!" May exclaimed, pointing to another box of cereal.
We chuckled at her enthusiasm. "May, we already have like 3 boxes in here." Dawn gestured to our full carts.
"What if we run out!" May cried. We gave her an incredulous look. "May, I doubt that." Misty rolled her eyes.
"We have more than enough food." I pointed out.
"You never know if the guys steal our food." May argued.
Misty face palmed. "May, we're getting all this so we can share. They probably wouldn't even think about grocery shopping. They're boys."
May shrugged. "Ash is with them. He'd probably drag them out sooner or later."
Then she paused. "Wait, then should we cut down on our food?" Then she grumbled. "Then they can just return their food, right?" "Wait, what the heck? Why are we even sharing with them? I don't want them to think that we forgave them or anything! We hate them! Ugh, just thinking about them makes me mad." She scowled.
Dawn raised her eyebrows at me. "Is May talking to herself?"
I laughed. "May is like that when it comes to food."
May pouted. "Hey, you guys eat as much as I do!"
I smirked. "Just cause we eat as much as you doesn't mean we're obsessed as much as you."
May scowled. "Whatever." She turned back to the shelves full of cereal.
Just then, we heard a voice and Misty had turned around. I turned my head as well. Ash?
"Um, hi Misty." The raven haired boy said.
Misty seemed shocked but then composed herself. "Do you need anything?" She managed to say.
He turned back and gestured to two other carts. Next to the two carts stood Gary, Drew and Paul. I automatically clenched my teeth.
Ash scratched his head. "You see, we were grocery shopping too. It seems as…you know… if both of us have so much food, we won't be able to fit all of it in the kitchen, haha, you know?"
I smiled to myself for his awkwardness. He was scratching his head and looking sheepishly at the ground.
"Uh…Uh….Yeah…" Misty said.
Dawn cut in, helping Misty. "Then why don't you cut down to one cart, and we'll do the same?"
May's gasp was heard. "Cut down!?" She complained.
Surprisingly, Ash's face brightened. "Alright then! Thanks guys!"
He walked away and waved at the guys. We turned back to our carts.
"Who knew he would be so willing to cut down on food." Misty muttered.
May was moaning at the loss of a cart. "But what if we don't like the food they have?"
"Then we can just eat the food we bought. Since we cut down on our food, we don't have to share."
I snuck a peek at the boys. Huh. Who would've thought that the boys would go grocery shopping?
"Well. May, you better hurry up and choose what you're gonna have to leave at the supermarket."
May grumbled as she emptied out one of the carts. "Why did they have to go grocery shopping?"
After May was done choosing, we bought our groceries, loaded our car and sped off to the house. We quickly unloaded the trunk and hauled the bags of groceries in the house to the kitchen.
When we arrived at the kitchen and opened the cabinets and fridge, they contained a bunch of food in it.
"Hey! I like this one!" May pointed to a bag of chips that the boys had put in.
I sighed. "May, stop admiring the food and start organizing."
"Ehehe, sorry." May apologized
We somehow got all the food to fit. Even with a huge kitchen, it had been quite the task to fit all of our food in. Just how much food did the guys buy?
"How much food did the guys even buy?" Dawn complained, as if reading my mind.
"I know right?" Misty mumbled.
I looked down at my clothes and then at the girls. "We should probably change." I told the girls.
Misty whined. "But this is comfortable!"
"Yeah, but we're gonna meet Cynthia about the room change, remember? I asked if we could go this afternoon, and I don't think she'll like it if we came in sweatpants."
Misty sighed. "I guess you're right."
We went to our rooms and I quickly changed. I wore a cream lace cropped tank top with a coral skater skirt. I changed my shoes to black Toms. I left my hair in two pigtails and added two black bows. I whipped on some lotion and swiped on a little bit of mascara and bolted to Dawn's room. I was a bit worried. She said she was fine this morning, but she seemed a bit out of it.
When I entered Dawn's room she was in the middle of taking her braid out, leaving her hair in soft waves. She was wearing a cropped white tank top that had knots on the top of the straps and was wearing a jean skater skirt with buttons down the middle and wore white shoes.
"Hey, Dawn, you ready?"
"Almost, let me just tie my hair." She gathered her hair and put it in a high ponytail with the waves from the braid spilling down to the middle of her back. She then put a yellow…scrunchie? around her ponytail.
"Uh, Dawn, is that a scrunchie?"
"Yep."
I laughed at her. "You're the only person I know who still wears scrunchies."
She glared at me. "Am not. Misty does too. Why does everyone laugh? They're so cute!"
"I'm kidding Dawn." I smiled.
She grinned at me. "I know."
I then looked at her gently. "Dawn, are you sure you're okay?"
She rolled her eyes at me. "Leaf, how many times do I have to tell you, I'm fine. No need to worry!"
I sighed. "If you say so. But you seem kind of out of it"
Dawn stood up from her chair. "I guess its just aftershock. But honestly, it's fine. I was just scared. Don't worry."
I nodded. "Let's go get the others."
We went into Misty's room and then to May's. Misty wore a multicolored tank top with a knot at the bottom. She had high-waisted denim shorts and white sneakers and a neon green headband. Her hair was left down to her shoulder length hair.
May had on a gray crop top with a blue-green pattern on the top. She had high waisted jeans on as well with black Converse, and she had a blue bow headband on her hair, which was still up in a ponytail.
"Let's go chicas" I smiled.
May grabbed my wrist and we jumped in the elevator and hopped out. Misty and Dawn stood by the doors smirking. May gaped. "You cheaters!"
"We're just faster than you guys." Dawn grinned.
Dawn then looked at me. "Where was Cynthia's office again?"
My mind became blank. "Uh…"
"Just call her and ask for directions." Misty said.
I looked at her. "We barely know the street names, how would we even follow the directions she gives us? And besides, it takes forever just to get connected to her. I have to call this number and it goes to another person and there's this whole verifying process and-"
"We get it Leaf!" Misty interrupted my ranting. She grinned at me. "Uh, then…Oh wait! Dawn, can you ask Barry if he can drive us to Cynthia's office since he works there?"
Dawn's face brightened. "Oh yeah!" She whipped out her cellphone and punched a number and called Barry.
I smirked. "Speed dial?"
Dawn rolled her eyes at us. "He was like the first number I had." She argued.
We gave her unimpressed looks. "Uh-huh, I'm sure." I laughed.
"Hey! It's not like-OH Hi Barry!" She broke into a smile.
She sighed. "Yes, Barry I'm fine. But I have a favor to ask of you. Could you drive the girls and me to Cynthia's office? We wanted to meet her today and we don't really know the campus that well. Uh-huh, Thanks!"
She smiled and nodded at us. "Let's go out!"
We left the house and saw Barry smiling with his golf cart looking thingy.
Dawn laughed. "That was fast."
Barry grinned. "You know me."
We hopped on his golf cart and he drove us around. "So why do you need to see Cynthia?"
"We were going to ask about our roommate change."
He nodded.
"Bothering you?"
I scratched my head. "Eh, not really. Just their presence." I scowled.
Barry raised his eyebrow. "You're gonna have to come up with a better excuse than that to Cynthia."
I raised my eyebrows. "I think 4 girls living with 4 guys is the best excuse there is. That should be a huge warning sign."
Barry shrugged. "Surprisingly, this school isn't so uptight on the whole boys and girls separation. So, unless you have a legitimate complaint, I don't think Cynthia will let you out that easily."
"Cynthia did say that she would ask the board about the room changes. So I guess we might be lucky." May said.
Barry nodded. "Well, I hope you guys get a room change." He stopped the golf cart by the building we came into the first day. "Well, we're here. I'll be waiting outside so don't take too long."
We thanked him and we went inside. The front desk lady looked up at us. "Hello, girls, how may I help you?"
"We're here to see Cynthia. My name is Leaf and I called earlier."
The lady flipped through some papers and smiled at us. "Oh, Cynthia has been expecting you. First door to the right."
"Thank you!" We opened the door and saw Cynthia sitting at her desk, filling out paperwork. She looked up. "Hi girls!"
"Hi Cynthia!"
"So, what do you need girls?"
I looked at Cynthia. "It's about the room changes. When do you think we'll be able to switch?"
Cynthia frowned and scanned us. "Did something already happen?"
"Well…not really."
Cynthia raised her eyebrows. "Then what seems to be the problem?"
I gaped at her. Seriously? How does a teenage group of boys and girls living in one house not bother her?
"Well, it's just that we're girls, and they're boys and it's quite uncomfortable."
Cynthia sighed. "I understand that. But making these changes are not that easy and the board has decided that you are all mature enough, considering your test scores as well, to handle all of this."
May's face turned red. "We don't have to stay in the mansion! I'm pretty sure another group of boys would be thrilled to switch rooms with us to stay in that house!"
Cynthia's face turned to May. "Rooms are not chosen randomly. Houses are divided into sections on campus based on rankings. I know that seems harsh but it's the only way to keep advanced classes and regular classes organized and so students won't get mixed up. It's quite big campus, you know."
I tried to argue but the words wouldn't come out from my mouth. "B-but…"
Cynthia looked sympathetically at us. "I understand it's uncomfortable, but I'm afraid I don't have any power over this situation. The board members usually handle situations like this."
Just then, there was a knock on the door. "Come in." Cynthia called.
The door opened to reveal the faces I dreaded to see.
"Hello boys! I'm surprised you're here on time."
I groaned inwardly. Just great. Why does this always happen to us?
"Hi Cynthia!" Ash greeted her.
"So why'd you call us?" Drew asked, bored.
"I was just talking to the girls about the same situation I was going to talk to you about."
"What?"
"I called you to warn you about the consequences of trying anything weird while rooming with the girls."
Paul rolled his eyes. "Well, you don't have to worry about that."
Cynthia looked surprised. "The girls came in to get a room switch. Did something happen between the two groups?"
Gary smiled at her. "No, nothing at all."
Ash nodded. "We didn't do anything, we swear!"
"Do you boys want a room switch as well? If both parties strongly oppose the idea, the board might reconsider."
I looked at the boys expectantly. They better ask for a room switch.
But Gary quickly glanced at me and turned back to Cynthia. "I don't mind. As long as we respect our own space, we'll be good, right?"
Ash nodded. "Right."
Cynthia looked at Drew and Paul.
"I don't care either way." Drew said.
"Whatever" Paul grunted.
The girls and I gaped at them. What the freaking hell.
Cynthia smiled at them. "It's nice to hear you say that."
She paused and then looked at us again. "But, if the boys do anything you can report that to me."
I grew angry. "These boys are jerks! Can't you report that to the board members!? Cocky, rude and utterly disgusting boys!"
I whipped my head towards Gary. "And you! You know we obviously need a room switch! What the hell is wrong with you!?"
Gary smiled at me in a way I wanted to puke. "I'm just being considerate to the school. Don't you think so?"
I snarled and I stormed out of the room, fuming.
I heard footsteps following me.
"Leaf." A soft voice called.
I turned around and faced Dawn who was smiling at me.
I sighed. "I'm sorry Dawn. I just…got pretty upset."
She grinned. "No, me and the girls were on the verge of slapping the boys too. We just…happen to contain our anger a bit better in front of adults." She teased.
I rolled my eyes. "Oh, whatever."
I looked at her more seriously. "But, Dawn, seriously, what are we going to do?"
Dawn frowned. "I guess we have to resort to ignoring them. It's the best way. And besides, knowing Gary, he'd probably try something, and the second that happens, we're reporting and getting out of that place."
I sighed. "Alright. I guess I should go inside and apologize for my behavior before she decides to kick me out."
We stepped back into the room where May and Misty were arguing with Cynthia.
"Isn't there any way? Misty argued.
Cynthia stared firmly at them. "Girls, I'm sorry, but that is not an option at the moment. I would have expected you to be more mature about this."
I stepped up. Cynthia looked at me. I looked down. "I'm sorry for my inexcusable behavior a moment ago. It won't happen again."
Her eyes softened. "I will let it go for now. I would advise you to watch your language from now on."
I nodded. "Cynthia, we decided to…tolerate this situation for now. But if they try anything we will request for a room change and we will expect one."
May and Misty looked at me incredulously.
Dawn touched their shoulders and they looked at her and sighed. They understood.
Cynthia nodded. "Very well." She looked at the boys and us. "It seems that you had some bad history."
There was silence in the room. She looked at us. "This school does not tolerate fighting and arguments and because you have almost all of your classes together, fighting may happen frequently."
I snorted to myself. This school didn't tolerate fighting or arguments but tolerated boys and girls living together?
"It may be a good opportunity to sort out differences while living together but I am not forcing you to become friends."
Cynthia looked at us. "A simple argument does not count as a reason to switch. If one of you…try… anything that students should not be doing, that will be a legitimate reason."
We all nodded. "Well, if you don't have any questions, you are free to leave."
We quickly exchanged farewells and left the room. The moment we left the building I turned on the boys.
I glared at Gary. "What the hell is your problem? Why didn't you ask for a room change?"
Gary grinned. "Well, there was no reason for us to get a room change. We get along quite nice, don't we?"
I growled and I was about to punch him when a hand stopped me.
"Don't try anything Leaf. I don't think Cynthia was too impressed with your outburst before." Misty said.
May stepped up and looked at them. "We're going to ignore each other until we're able to get a room change. We won't talk unless it's an emergency. Got that?"
Drew rolled his eyes. "Whatever you say, June."
May's face turned red and her eyes narrowed. She was about to say something until Dawn cut her off. "Alright, then we'll be going."
We walked toward Barry who was lying down on the seats of the golf cart while texting on his phone. He sat upright when he saw us. "That took longer than I expected."
We smiled apologetically to him. "Sorry about that Barry. There was just some unexpected company." I glared back at the boys.
Barry's eyes grew big when he saw the boys. "Whoa, when did they get there?"
Dawn looked at him, confused. "You didn't see them?"
Barry scratched his head sheepishly. "I kind of fell asleep before."
We laughed. "Well, let's go drop you girls back off."
We hopped on his golf cart and we sped back to the mansion.
The girls and I were about to get out when I suddenly got an idea. "Hey, Barry can we visit your place?" I looked back at our house. "I don't think any of us want to go back in there."
Barry looked at understandingly and agreed. We went to his place next door and hopped off. "Well, welcome to my humble home." Barry gestured dramatically.
We laughed. "You don't even own this place." Dawn giggled.
Barry pushed her. "Don't say that! You don't know how much I love this place!"
The rest of the boys came out and greeted us. "Hey girls! How are you?"
I was in the middle of listening to a conversation between Red and Kenny when I saw them. The boys had walked from Cynthia's office and were walking towards our house. I was watching them in the corner of my eye. The boys quickly glanced at us and headed for the door. I was about to turn my focus back to Red when I saw him.
Gary had turned his head again and our eyes met. I was expecting a smirk or a flirty smile but what he did caught me off guard. He did smile but it wasn't one of the usual cocky smiles he flashed at girls. He smiled softly and his eyes were…caring?
I snapped my head back to Red who was still talking to Kenny.
I discreetly looked back at our place. The boys had gone back into the house. I scolded myself for being an idiot. Gary with caring eyes? Gary with a soft smile? I was being stupid. That was impossible and ridiculous.
I glared back at our house. There was no way. He's an idiot and I was an idiot for thinking that for the smallest second.
I hated him, I hate him now, and I will always hate him.
