Chapter 11
AN: Whoa, I haven't updated this for ages! I did start writing this chapter a while back but, unfortunately, I lost the file. Anyway I hope that you enjoy the chapter.
The gang had spent the past fortnight trying to come up with a battle plan to counter the inevitable attack by the Lava Gormiti for revenge due to Nadia's death. It had been difficult, given that they didn't know how the Lava forces were planning on attacking them, or even when.
Toby sighed, looking over at his friends."Can we go over it again?" He asked for the third time. Normally planning wasn't part of his agenda but if it kept them all safe, then he was willing to plan as much as they needed.
"Do we really need to?" Lucas asked. "We all know our roles in the plan-what's the point in just sitting here waiting?"
Toby lowered his head. "I know what you mean. It's just that..." He couldn't stop himself from glancing at Jessica who gave him a reassuring smile. The last thing he wanted was to put her in any sort of danger but he knew she would never let him leave her behind.
"You don't have to worry about me." Jessica said softly, moving forward and taking his hand in her own. "I can handle myself." Toby looked up at her, knowing full well that she could take care of herself- she had proved that often enough. But things were different this time. The battle would not be mere child's play and none of them were invincible. They could all end up in very serious danger.
"I'm not going to deliberately put myself in danger." Jessica began. "But I'm also not going to let you leave me behind! Wherever we go, we go together, okay?" Toby nodded slowly. At this, Nick and Lucas leapt to their feet.
"I guess it's showtime!" Lucas said as they each collected their elements in order to transform. "Let's show those lavaheads who they're dealing with!"
As they gated into Gorm, Obscurio sat in his lair, a look of displeasure on his evil face. "They are here..." he muttered before yelling, "Magmion! Prepare all your troops for battle!"
"Yes, Master." The reptilian Volcano Lord bowed low before leaving as Obscurio let out a chilling laugh.
The Lords landed in the middle of Lava territory to find themselves surrounded by Lava Gormiti. Jessica immediately rose into the sky, unseen by any of the Lava soldiers, and hid amongst the clouds. The plan was that she would go to enlist the help of the Air Gormiti and once Toby, Nick and Lucas had taken out most of the Lava Gormiti, she and the Air Gormiti would move in above and defeat the rest.
However, from what she was seeing, Jessica didn't think it was going to be all that easy. There were already more Lava Gormiti than they had ever had to fight before, and even more of them were rushing to join the battle. There was no way a single tribe would be able to defeat forces of that magnitude.
"Jungle Attack!" Lucas yelled, shooting his vines at a couple of Lava Gormiti who had been attempting to sneak up on them. "Watch out!" He warned as another pair attempted to attack Nick from behind.
Thanks to Lucas' warning, Nick was able to dodge the lava blasts just in time. "Rock Storm!" He retaliated, knocking them out with the attack. They were doing well so far, but Lucas and Toby were already starting to feel the effects of being too far away from the source of their powers. The Lava Gormiti just kept appearing out of nowhere and the Lords were beginning to struggle to hold them back.
Jessica decided that it was time for her to fulfill her part of the plan. She flew off, heading toward the Air Nation, hoping that her people would be willing to help them.
Back in the Lava Nation, Toby was engaged in a furious battle with a particularly stubborn Lava Gormiti. He dodged the lava blast and laughed. "Fire, huh? Why does that not surprise me? Aqua Blast!" The jet of water knocked the Lava Gormiti off his feet, and this time, he didn't get up again.
Meanwhile, Jessica had found the Air Gormiti. To her great relief, they had agreed to help, stating that they were honour-bound to protect the Lords of Nature. She enlisted two of them with the task of alerting members of the other Nations whilst she and the others headed to Lava territory under the cover of the clouds.
The situation was worsening in the Lava Nation. Though they continued to fight bravely, Toby, Nick and Lucas realized that, unless Jessica arrived with reinforcements, they would be facing defeat.
All of a sudden, they found themselves joined by Forest and Earth Gormiti as well as the Ancient Guardians of those Nations- Troncalion and Roscalion. "Whoa!" Nick said, impressed. "Jessica's outdone herself."
In the skies above the Lava Nation, Jessica and the Air Gormiti, along with their Ancient Guardian, Fenison, waited patiently for the signal. Below them, the Water Gormiti were hidden amongst the shores between the Water and Lava Nations. The plan had changed slightly and the Air Gormiti would fling them down to the shore where the Water Gormiti and their Ancient Guardian Tentaclion were lying in wait.
"We are here to help you, Lords of Nature!" An Earth Gormiti cried. With that, all the Earth and Forest Gormiti began fighting alongside the Lords. Having more people on their side was making all the difference and soon they began to push back the Lava soldiers.
"Alright!" Toby cheered. "We're turning the tables on them!" The battle continued, neither side giving any quarter. The Air Gormiti and Jessica watched from above, looking for their opportunity to join the fight. Soon their opportunity arrived. As more and more of the Lava forces were pushed back, Toby looked up toward the sky and yelled, "Now, Jess!"
Jessica didn't need telling twice. She and the rest of the Air Gormiti swooped down and launched a combined attack. "Wind Attack!" The gust of wind knocked the Lava Gormiti off their feet and they fell down to the shores, leaving them at the mercy of the Water Gormiti.
Eventually one of the Lava Gormiti cried "Retreat! We must retreat!" At once, all the Lava soldiers began running back to the volcano. The Gormiti of the other Nations all cheered for their victory before taking their leave.
Toby looked up as Jessica landed in front of him. She didn't even hesitate before she rushed into his arms. "I'm so glad you're all okay!" She cried with relief before turning to Toby. "Do you have any idea how hard it was for me to stay put when all I could think of was that you could have been hurt?"
"It's alright, Jess, I'm fine." Toby reassured her. "We all are." He placed his hand on her shoulder. "Thanks to you, anyway."
Nick nodded. "Yeah, if it hadn't been for you, we never would have won."
"You brought those reinforcements in the nick of time!" Lucas praised. "You saved us all."
Jessica beamed at them with pride before worry overtook her expression. "Somehow I don't think Obscurio is going to take this defeat very well."
Toby laughed. "Does Obscurio ever take defeat well?" He asked sarcastically, causing the others to laugh too.
As Jessica struggled to catch her breath, she gasped, "But, seriously, guys, we need to be careful! We're not invincible and the Lava Gormiti will never stop trying to destroy us."
"You're right." Lucas told her. "But, for now, let's just enjoy this victory while we can."
Nick agreed. "We may not get the chance to, next time."
They all glanced at each other, knowing that they would have to remain vigilant. For now, they could not rest as long as the forces of evil were still out there.
