Chapter 7
Raven
A/N: It end's in an awkward spot. My brain just gave up on those last few sentences.
"I did what you asked Nai-kun."
"Liar."
Izaya smirked, more so at the gun in his face rather than the woman holding he weapon. "He was falling into a bad crowd. I taught him that it wasn't healthy."
"Explain yourself."
"Can we take the gun out of the equation first?" He chuckled, "I do value my life."
Namie had been dismissed when Izaya realized that his fowl mannered secretary would get shot if she crossed Nai. Besides, it was more fun when he could get the woman alone, better not have the sour heiress around to ruin his fun. Nai thought about it before easing the hammer back into place and putting the gun down on his desk.
"Spit it out."
"Your precious kid is the soul creator and leader of the Yellow Scarves."
Her green eyes widened but she didn't say anything. Izaya started laughing, "This doesn't even come as much of a surprise to you does it!" He continued to cackle, "I knew it! Totally worth telling you for free..." His laughing calmed, "Although you threatened me first."
"I just never underestimated him. But what was he doing so wrong that you dropped your little doll into things? I thought the yellow scarves were harmless thugs."
"You know me Nai-kun, I just wanted to mix things up."
"That better not be your final answer."
He chuckled, "They weren't always harmless. They had numbers. That kid of yours was a good leader. I figured throwing in a girl would break his concentration. He didn't even blink... But it did get me into his leadership circle as much as he hated it."
"Why did he run away with that little bitch?"
He grinned broadly, "That isn't very nice to say about a child Nai-kun."
"That girl is a little you. I don't trust her."
Izaya smirked, "He loves her Nai." Before the woman's anger left her mouth in a few very foul words his cell rang and he held up his hand, silencing her oncoming rant, and answered. "Hello Saki."
"Hello Izaya!"
"How are you my dear?"
"I'm ok. I waited until he left again like you said."
"Good girl."
The info broker left the phone on the desk, the speaker loud enough for Nai to hear the girls voice.
"He's been talking about coming back... He says he misses the city."
"Really now?"
"Yeah. I want to stay here...but I do miss you..."
Nai picked up her gun and pointed it at Izaya. Her eyes said it all. She wanted him to come home. Izaya laughed, "Come on home then. You two do have to finish your education. What kind of guardian would I be of I let you drop out of school?"
"Ok! He's gonna be so happy! Bye Izaya!"
"Bye bye." He smirked as Nai turned and left his condo without another word.
"Nai, I need you to be on your best behavior in this meeting."
"Yes Uncle."
"They're going to ask you a lot of questions. If your answers are not what they want to hear this meeting falls apart."
Nai frowned. Was the information she gathered in the last week really that important? The car pulled into the alley and parked behind the line of other black foreign cars. The doors were opened and a black umbrella was held over her head. Police photographers always showed at these meetings. They couldn't get her picture if she was covered.
She used to hate that tradition. When she was little, the cover of the umbrella felt like a cage.
There was the distinct sound of a horse's neigh and Nai stopped, turning her head. Celty's helmet snapped in the young woman's direction and she nodded. A man approached the Dullahan and collected a rather large case the being was holding.
"Give me that." The yakuza heiress held out her hand for the umbrella. Her attendant bowed and handed it over.
Celty waved as she was approached and pulled out her PDA, "Are you allowed to talk to me?"
"Quickly. Why are you here?"
"I'm a transporter. I guess Shinra didn't tell you that."
"No... He didn't..."
"Is everything ok?"
Nai looked over her shoulder, "Yeah. I was just curious. Do you know what was in that case you just dropped off?" Celty shook her head and Nai stopped her as she started typing on her PDA again. "Thanks, I should go."
She held her umbrella over her head; she held her own cage, as the mythical woman rode away.
Oishi glared at Nai as she answered his every question calmly and carefully. "How can you be so sure about the information you've just given me?"
"My information comes from Izaya Orihara. If something is wrong, take it up with him." Nai squeezed the back rail of the chair, the fabric of her Uncle's suit brushing her knuckles.
She stood at his right, a trusted position, and a position that should be her fathers.
"This city needs to be under the power of your uncle's family before we can move forward."
"I will personally take care of anyone who steps out of line. For instance, I plan to make an example out of one Izumii."
A mutter rose over the tables, all of the men started to whisper to each other until it was a dull hum in the room. Tezuka Noramibu tucked his long dark hair behind his ear and smirked, his smooth voice rising over the others, "Who is this person?"
Nai glared at Tezuka. She hated his pompous guts. He was nice to look at but that was really all there was to it. Her Uncle however, saw an opportunity to merge families. Her thoughts on that... She'd rather die.
"I can explain that further." Mr. Shiki saved the young woman from having to speak any longer. "He was leader of the Blue Squares, another of the color gangs. He's in jail right now for kidnapping charges but he's been pulling strings for small groups out here. He framed my faction of the family for the human trafficking incidents last year."
"He's up for parole in a week. I plan to pay him a visit."
Tezuka continued to smirk at Nai, "Oh really? A traditional Yakuza visit I bet."
"Damn straight."
Daiki sipped his drink and sighed, "I trust my niece. She will do what needs to be done."
Oishi nodded, "Fine then. To business."
Nai was nervous, a silence fell over the room and even Tezuka was no longer smirking. The case Celty brought was presented to the room. When it was opened, everyone took a breath.
"Shinra!"
The doctor didn't need to check the peephole to know the panicked voice was Nai's. He swung open the door, "What could be the problem this early in the morning?"
"Did you know that the Nebra Corporation planned on turning Yagiri into a drug factory?" Shinra's glasses fell down his nose and Nai just shook her head, "Is Celty here?"
"She's on a job."
"Transporter?"
"Yes. Wait, tell me what's going on."
"Damn. It's already in motion."
"Nai, breath and tell me what's happening."
She sat on the white couch and put her head in her hands, messing up her hair. "The plan is to control the city's gangs and cash flow through drugs and printing money."
"Wait what?!"
"Exactly. At the meeting last night, Celty brought a case, in it was a huge bag of pills and these metal plates with currency images on them."
"Our currency?"
"American currency!"
Shinra flopped down next to her, "Oh my god."
"The families plan on charging only American currency for the drugs. In order to get the money people are going to have to trade their yen for American dollars and then the families will keep the yen and recycle the dollars. Instant goldmine, minus the price of producing these drugs."
Shinra adjusted his glasses, "What kind of drug is it?"
"I don't know. They just looked like round, pink, pills. Almost like candy."
"I'll test it if you can get me some of it."
"I'll do what I can."
The apartment went silent. This was a nightmare. The city would fall apart, stupid kids could get their hands on this drug and... She didn't really want to think about it. She'd seen some stuff while she was away, she wasn't sure if she was ready to handle that level violence and law breaking. Although, she said she would take the first step by going after Izumii. Nai stood from the couch and walked over to an open spot, trying to will away her daunting thoughts. Shinra walked over to stand behind her. She turned to face him, for a moment just looking at her feet. "What do you think I was doing when I was gone?"
Shinra put a hand on her shoulder and then hugged her, "You can tell me when you're ready."
"Thanks."
