Chapter 8

Mouse

"You know something, you're kind of attractive." Izumii gazed up at Nai from his handcuffed position on the warehouse floor. She smirked evilly and waved her gun around, "I've heard so many interesting things about you Izumii. Gang leader, successful human trafficking, kidnapping. You even got out of jail earlier than expected."

Izumii smirked back at her, "I was a good boy."

It happened quickly, her foot connecting with his jaw. He laid on his back uncomfortably, blood dripping from his lips, "You nasty little liar." She sneered.

Nai was sure that if anyone who thought they knew her could see this moment. They would be worried, afraid even. She was ruthless when she had to be. She said she would take care of Izumii and going back on her word would make her weak.

Four other men joined her with the criminal and two of them hoisted him back to his knees. She pressed the barrel of her gun to his temple. "The blue squares moved on their own while you were in jail huh? I'm really supposed to believe that?"

He started to speak but thought about it, that heeled foot might have knocked out a few teeth, he shook his head.

"Don't get quiet now Izumii."

"I...I just told them to go after the yellow scarves."

"And you framed the Awakusu for your slave trafficking!" She shouted.

"I was covering my ass! I knew the Hagane clan would flip if it was anyone else! The yellow scarves did their own share of dirty shit too!"

Nai took her knee to his face, breaking something, and promptly pressed her heel into his chest, "You've got some nerve."

"M-my nose! You b-broke my nose!"

She smirked, "I could break your neck if I wanted to. Do you have any idea who Masaomi Kida is to me?"

Izumii's eyes opened wide. That brat had the yakuza at his back? How the hell was he supposed to know that?! He figured the blonde was just some brat who took his little gang too far into the real deal. Real deal, that thought made him laugh now, the Yakuza was the real deal, and this woman might for real kill him.

Nai tilted her head to the side and pouted, "You poor thing, you look petrified. I won't kill you. But you know, what you did to little Saki Mikajima. I wonder how that felt..."

The gunshot was loud as she shot his right knee without taking her gaze from his face. He went to convulse off the floor and she pressed her foot down harder on his chest. He screamed and cursed and tears spilled from his eyes as Nai and her men stayed cold, as he caught his breath she shot his other knee.

His screams echoed throughout the warehouse as she walked out to her car. "Call the police when we get to the expressway. Make sure to tell the news station exactly what to say." She tucked her gun back in her pants and lit a cigarette.

"Yes ma'am."

Nai called her uncle as the car pulled away, "It's done."

"He still alive?"

"I bet he wishes he wasn't."

"Good job. I'm proud of you."

She looked down at her hand holding the cigarette, watching it tremble, "Yeah."

"Do you think Masaomi will be happy to see us?"

Mikado's eyes widened as he regarded his friend, "Of course he will! Why wouldn't he?"

Anri shuffled her feet on the floor of the train station, "He never said anything to us this whole time. He just...disappeared."

Mikado watched Anri as she watched the empty tracks. He felt bad about not telling her; he had been talking to Masaomi, he even sort of knew where the boy was. Masaomi made him promise not to say anything. He clenched his fist around his phone in his pocket; he talked to that Yakuza lady only a week ago, now suddenly his friend was coming home.

"Mikado?"

"Oh!" he waved his hands in front of his face, "Don't mind me! I just...uh...agree with you! It's odd that he didn't contact us this whole time."

Anri watched her friend silently. Things seemed to be happening in this city again. Much like the liveliness from almost a year ago. A new semester of school was starting and she wondered if the three of them would be the same as before. She hoped they wouldn't keep secrets, not anymore.

"Well hello hello! Here to greet someone?" Izaya inserted himself between the friends and threw his arms around their shoulders, "Getting the gang back together must be so exciting."

Anri snatched herself from his grasp; shivering inwardly, him...he was the reason for most of the crap they all went through in the first place.

Mikado scratched his head, "H-hello Izaya."

The man smirked at Anri, "What? No hello?"

Her eyes glowed red and he chuckled loudly, "Of course of course! God only knows who here you're controlling with that blade of yours."

Several people in the passing crowd looked over at the three with glowing red eyes. Anri glared at him, "I don't trust you."

Izaya laughed again, "Oh my. Such a guarded young lady."

"Izaya. What the hell are you doing?"

"Nai-kun!"

The woman walked over to Mikado and put her hand on his shoulder, "Hey kid. This loser bothering you?"

"No of course not!"

"Nai-kun you wound me so much! I would never torment an innocent soul."

"You're a damn liar." She scanned the surrounding area, "Shizuo must not know you're here yet." She pulled out her phone, "Should I give him a call?"

"You spoil my fun Nai! I'm just here to escort my little Saki home."

The woman put her phone away. Anri shuffled her feet again, pulling Nai's focus. Anri scanned the woman's clothes. Dark skinny jeans, a white t-shirt covered by a well fitting woman's blazer and dark pumps that put the tall woman about two inches over the info broker.

Nai waved slowly at Anri, "Hello."

"Oh! Hello!"

Izaya grinned, "This is Nai, Nai this is Anri!"

Mikado blushed, "Sorry Miss Nai. I didn't tell her about our meeting. Anri was absent from school from that day, otherwise..."

"It's fine." The woman pushed her think wavy hair over her shoulder, "You can tell her."

Anri felt herself blushing as Mikado lent into her ear, whispering clearly. The girl started at what she heard and snapped her eyes to the woman who only smiled kindly and winked.

Yakuza.

So she was right. Things were happening in Ikebukuro again.

The train arrived.

"Hello hello hello! Masaomi Kida is in the house!"

"Masaomi!"

"Masaomi!"

Nai and Izaya stood back as the teens greeted each other, Saki being introduced to the blonde's friends. The woman turned slightly to Izaya, "Keep her away from him."

"I already enrolled her at Raira. I'm afraid I can't go with her to school."

"Fuck you Izaya."

"When?"

Masaomi noticed the two adults first and pulled Saki over by the hand. "Hey."

Nai nodded at him and responded, "Hey."

"This is-"

"I know who she is." The woman stayed cold as she regarded the girl. It was obvious that Masaomi was looking for some sort of acceptance from the adult, but he wasn't going to get it. "Let's go."

Anri watched quietly as the woman approached a black car with Masaomi in tow. Several suit-clad men walked them to a black car and stuck around as it pulled off. One of them looked to her with red eyes. "Find out why Masaomi knew yakuza."

Izaya smirked as he watched the exchange and wrapped an arm around Saki's shoulders, "Don't worry, Nai will warm up to you eventually. Let's go, Shizu-chan will catch on to my presence eventually."

Mikado nervously wrung his hands and chuckled, "Not the reunion we were expecting huh?"

"You didn't have to do that! Saki isn't bad!"

"Yes she is. She's a little Izaya, a manipulative liar."

"She didn't do anything to me!"

Nai looked to Masaomi as the car headed to her home, "She was checking in with that bastard whenever you weren't around."

Masaomi's eyes widened, "H-how...how do you know that?"

"Why do you think you're home right now?"

The boy went quiet and settled for looking out the window, "I won't ban you from seeing her, I can't as much as I'd like to. Izaya enrolled her in school with you; just watch what you say to and around her. She can't be trusted."

He nodded blindly, "Where are we going?"

"My uncle has made a room for you. I've retrieved some things from your apartment. It isn't permanent." She clenched her fists; "I just want you with me for a few days."

"Is something going on?"

"Nothing you need to worry about."
