AN: Here's another one. I got the idea from C3 (Guest). I actually ha d this one in mind as well so, that worked out.

History lesson: Halt adopted Will instead of sending him to the ward. nuff said.

I do not own Ranger's Apprentice or Tarzan

Halt watched as little Will took his first step as a baby. He saw him say his first words, he saw his little boy shoot his first arrow when he was four. Halt saw Will through every milestone of his life. Halt was in Castle Redmont when he got the idea to write a song for his son. Lady Pauline, Halt's love interest, saw him humming a tune and suggested putting words to it and writing a song for Will. So Halt did just that.

He didn't finish it until Will was 6. He decided to show it to him when they went on their little outing that afternoon. It was Will's 6th birthday so he decided to give him the song as a present. That, and his own bow.

"Daddy, when will we leave?" Will asked impatiently. Halt rolled his eyes and hoisted his son into his arms.

"We will leave when you have stopped asking when we will leave." Halt said teasingly and poked Will's nose making him giggle.

"Okay, I'll stop." Will said. Halt laughed and walked out the door with their lunch under one arm. Halt set Will down on Abelard and packed the lunch away before climbing on behind him. Will didn't have his own horse yet. That would come when he was 15. On the way, Halt gave Will his first present.

"Will, for your birthday, I wrote a song for you." Halt said and Will beamed up at him.

"What is it?" Will asked excited. Halt began to sing the song.

"Oh the power to be strong,

and the wisdom to be wise,

all these things will come to you in time.

on this journey that you're making,

there'll be answers that you'll seek,

and it's you who'll climb the mountain,

it's you who'll reach the peak." Halt sang and Will nodded his head in time with the song,

"Son of man look to the sky,

lift your spirit, set it free.

someday you'll walk tall with pride,

son of man, a man in time you'll be."

Halt sped Abelard up as they rode and he sang,

"There's no one there to guide you,

no one to take your hand." Halt was referring to what would have happened should Will have gone to the ward, and Will knew this.

"but with faith and understanding,

you will journey from boy to man.

Son of man look to the sky,

lift your spirit, set it free,

someday you'll walk tall with pride,

son of man a man in time you'll be." Will beamed as Halt sang.

"In learning you will teach,

and in teaching you will learn,

you'll find your place beside the one's you love." Halt gave Will and big hug and let Abelard steer while he held his son.

"oh, and all the things you dreamed of,

all the visions that you saw.

Well, the time is drawing near now,

it's yours to claim it all.

Son of man look to the sky,

lift your spirit, set it free.

someday you'll walk tall with pride

son of man a man in time you'll be." Halt sang and they arrived at their destination. Will hopped off the horse and ran to the clearing before Halt could sing the last two lines,

"Son of man,

Son of man's a man for all to see." Halt got off Abelard and hurried to catch his active son.

"I loved it daddy!" Will said and hugged Halt. halt hugged back then handed Will his other present. Will took the small bow in awe and requested to shoot it. Halt nodded and Will donned his arm cuff. He knew from experience to wear one.

Will was a natural shot and hit the target each time. Not accurately but he hit it. Halt was so proud of his son, and thought,

'He will be a great man someday.'

AN: there it is. I have another idea for one, but I'm not sure if it'll work yet. review please!
