Mini History Lesson: this takes place between books 1 and 2.
Princess Cassandra stormed into her room furious with her father. He had just denied her permission to go on the next boar hunt. They had argued late into the night, but Cassandra was far from tired.
"I mean, it's not like I'd be going alone! He just doesn't understand. I don't want to be a princess! But he says, 'we've discussed this Cassie.'" Cassandra said imitating her father's voice, then she put it into a song,
"The life of a princess
From her birth is well defined
She must humbly serve her country
Play the part she's been assigned
She guards the hopes of her people
Weak and mighty, rich and poor
Who could ever ask for more?" Cassandra finished in her own voice mocking herself. Then she got angry,
"I wanna be like other girls
Climb up a tree like other girls can
Just to be free like other girls
Get to be" she looked wistfully out her window then raced out to the courtyard to have some fun,
"To slouch when I sit
To eat a whole cake
Feel the sun on my feet
Get dirty
Act silly
Be anything I want to be
dance around
In my underwear!" Cassandra raced around rolling in the dirt despite the fine dress she was wearing. She sang the last part raising her skirt to her knees.
"To run really fast
To get rid of this fan" Cassandra threw away the fan she always kept in her waistband,
"To eat a whole cake
Get crazy
With frosting
No escorts
No manners
No nursemaids
No worries
No hands folded perfect,
Like holding a lily" she mock bowed to a statue of one of her ancestors.
"No pinchy shoes!" She took her shoes off and threw them in the pond in the courtyard. She danced around and laughed,
"I wanna be like other girls
Scrape up my knee like other girls can
Just to be free,
Like other girls
Get to be" then the princess raced inside in her bare feet, earning stares from the courtiers and scowls from the butler, who did not approve of her antics.
"To speak for myself
To sing way off-key
Marry someone I've met,
Who loves me for me
No escorts
No manners,
No nursemaids
No worries" Cassandra twirled around the ballroom without a care in the world,
"No hands folded perfect,
Like holding a lily
No pinchy shoes
I wanna be like other girls
Climb up a tree like other girls can
Just to be free like other girls
Get to Be" Cassandra ended up in the throne room standing on her throne beside her fathers, right when he was having a meeting.
"Cassandra, what is going on?" King Duncan asked awkwardly.
"I-uh-I was just having fun dad." Cassandra said telling him straight, "I don't want to be a princess. I want to be like other girls!" Cassandra begged.
The king sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose, "Can we have this conversation some other time Cassie?" Duncan said indicating his audience, who happened to be the famous Ranger Halt and a boy about her age with sandy hair and lovely brown eyes, also dressed in Ranger's clothes.
"Fine! But this conversation isn't over." Cassandra said and stormed out again.
"I apologize for my daughter." Duncan said to Halt and the boy, called Will.
"Not a problem your majesty. Now if Will would stop drooling i think we can finish our business." Halt said grim as usual. Will caught himself staring at the door where the princess had just exited with his mouth hanging open. He closed it, muttered an apology and turned his attention to the meeting.
AN: I know that Will and the princess didn't meet before the second book i just put that in there cuz i felt like it. deal with it. hope you liked it! ;)
