Monday 10th September 2012:

Dear my darling angel,

So today it has been a year since I wrote my very first letter to you. Can you believe how fast this year has gone? Today also marks your first birthday and to say I am emotional would be an understatement.

We threw you a birthday party on Saturday. Everyone drove up from Forks – Grampa Charlie, Carlisle, Esme and Alice. We all crammed into our little apartment and celebrated your special day. You are so special you get to have two birthday celebrations. Whilst Saturday was nice me and Edward decided we also needed to celebrate your actual birthday.

You absolutely loved the balloons Saturday so today on his way home he picked up a big first birthday balloon. Then we all got dressed up and went to a nice restaurant for dinner. You had your favourite – spaghetti bolognaise – and as usual you got it everywhere. They were really lovely there. When they found out it was your birthday they went and got a cupcake for you with a little candle in it. We all sang happy birthday and you smiled your beautiful smile.

So I just felt compelled to write to you as I watch you sleep. Me and daddy are sitting on the floor of your bedroom wondering about what the future holds for you. Who will you be when you grow up? What job will you have? A teacher, a doctor, a ballerina, a soccer player? The choices are endless.

Happy first birthday angel! – The first of many more to come!

All my love

Mummy xxxx

Dear Aimee my Princess,

Okay so your mummy has fallen asleep so before I carry her to bed I thought it was about time I wrote to you myself. Happy birthday baby girl. I can't believe that a year ago I didn't have either you or mummy in my life. Every time I hear you call me dada my heart skips a beat.

Your mummy always tells me "they never said life would be easy just that it would be worth it" – I think she's right you know. Life likes to throw you a curve ball every now and again. The true test is how you deal with it. This last year has most definitely been a bit of a rollercoaster ride. Finding you and mummy has undeniably made it worth it though. One day when you are all grown up and you have children of your own you will understand how we are feeling today.

Watching you grow and learn is an absolute privilege. I am so proud to be your father, if not by blood in every way that matters. You wriggled your way into my heart the very first time I met you and you never left. I never want you to question how loved you are. Mummy and I cannot wait to see how amazing you turn out.

There's another saying I like about life. It goes like this:

"Eventually all the pieces will fall into place. Until then laugh at the confusion, live for the moment and know that everything happens for a reason."

You are my reason, my sweet angel. I hope you always feel loved and are never lonely. I hope you achieve all you want to. I pray you have the strength and bravery when you need it. I hope you always feel as beautiful as you look. I hope that you always feel supported by me and mummy. I hope that when you look back on your childhood with fond memories.

All my love, now and always,

Daddy (Edward) xxxx
