What Became of Me

Chapter 4: Going Back Again

"Claire!"

Wesker was there shoving Claire ahead, "Move!" He said following behind her. Chris was in pursuit though and Wesker wasn't getting away! Chris smashed through the zombies shoving them away from himself as he ran after the man who was trying to take his sister now.

"Wesker!" Chris yelled as he burst through a set of double doors. Down on the ice next to a submarine stood Wesker, one hand twisted her left arm behind her back and another gripping a handful of her hair, yanking her head back. "Let her go!" Chris demanded. Wesker simply looked from Chris to Claire. "Now why should I do that, Chris?"

"Let. My. Sister. GO!"

Wesker laughed, "I don't know Chris, she may prove to be worth more than you think."

"Just let her go! It's me you want!"

Wesker again looked from Chris to Claire. "Fine!" And he shoved her forward at Chris. Claire stumbled and fell right at her brother's feet and he leaned down to help her up. "At least now I have the Burnside boy, that's better than nothing I suppose."

"What are you gonna do with Steve!?" Claire demanded holding the arm that Wesker had been twisting behind her back. "I'm afraid I can't tell you that, Dear Heart."

"Claire I want you to go and wait for me in the jet."

"But Chris-!"

"I'll be right behind you!"

Claire just looked at her brother for a moment before saying, "Remember your promise!" He nodded and she threw a glare at Wesker before dashing off. The fight between Wesker and Chris was now going to commence, and Chris knew it was going to suck. And only a lot! He knew Wesker wasn't human anymore and he'd only had just a small taste of what the Tyrant was capable of. Wesker knew he had more room to work with now compared to the tiny tyrant chamber area he had first encountered Chris in. And Chris knew he'd have to use whatever he could to his advantage if he had any hopes of getting out alive.

Four blows from Wesker's fists and Chris was ready hurl, the cavern was spinning and the fire that surrounded them from the self imploding facility was getting higher and hotter. Chris rolled to avoid another blow knocking several steel girders loose causing them to fall atop of Wesker knocking him down. But did that stop him? Hell no! Chris watched as the bastard popped up out from under the beams, like weeds you pull but somehow they just keep coming back in your backyard! 'Dammit!' Chris thought. Wesker stood and smirked at him, "Nice try." He was mocking Chris! "Oh how I've waited for this day, Chris! To finish you for the trouble you caused me back at the Arklay mansion!" The Tyrant's eyes flashed as he spoke. Chris was starting to accept the fact that he probably wasn't going to be making it back to Claire, that he had nothing else he could use against Wesker now. 'No! This isn't happening!' Chris thought as Wesker started to make his way over to where he stood. Chris looked around. There had to be something! Just then a burning pillar crashed between them and as they both stood Wesker turned to show Chris his burnt face covering it with one of his hands. "It would seem we are at an impasse!" The Tyrant said. "This isn't over, Chris!" Wesker then laughed as the former S.T.A.R.S Alpha team member turned, "You're right Wesker! It's not over yet!" Before fleeing through the double doors to get back to the jet as quickly as possible. Wesker's laughter echoing behind him as he ran, how odd that he could hear it even over the crumbling ruins as they fell around and the zombie's groans as they tried to pursue him.

'Where is he?!' Claire was worried. 'He's gonna make it, Claire. He promised!' She was trying to reassure herself but as the building rumbled and fell around her she started to get more and more scared. Just then Chris made a leap of faith and landed on the front end of the jet. "I'm here, Claire!" Chris heaved pulling himself up and into the seat, "I told ya I was gonna make it!" She smiled as the jet started to lift up and into the air out of the hangar. "Don't you ever scare me like that again!" She reached from the back punching him in his shoulder. "Ow!" Was all he said as they took off. "What about Wesker?"

"He got away." Claire glanced out, feeling as if they were being watched and saw Wesker, he was looking up at her, smirking before he turned and made his way out of sight. Looking down below they watched as the facility was engulfed in flames and started to vanished beneath the ice. "At least Alexia is gone for good." Chris finally said as the last of the burning building vanished.

"He took Steve..."

"I know Claire," Chris said sadly. "I'm sorry for your friend but we're gonna get Wesker."

Claire knew her brother was right. One day they'd get him! And she'd find out what happened to Steve. He never deserved any of this, none of them did. Since Wesker had managed to escape using the submarine from Rockfort, there was no telling where he was heading or how far he'd manage to get. But what exactly did he hope to gain from Steve? Research? Any little bit of the T-Veronica... No, he called it the 'T-Alexia' virus in Steve. Would that make it a new strain? And if so, would that make it worse than the original T-Veronica virus that Alexia had originally crafted? There were so many questions going through Claire's mind right now. She knew for sure she wanted to sleep but wasn't sure she felt safe enough to. At least she had her brother back and for now things were okay. But Claire knew it wouldn't stay that way, not with Wesker out there at least and some of Umbrella still standing for the time being.

Meanwhile -

Deep under the ocean waves, Wesker makes his escape within the safety of the submarine he had managed to swipe from Rockfort. Not that they'd be needing it anymore there anyway! "Ah Mr. Burnside. What might you have in store for me?" Wesker was looking over the poor boy's corpse as he made his way back to HCF. The new organization he had betrayed Umbrella for and currently worked under though only briefly. Wesker had his own plans and they were slowly coming together. "All good things come in good time." He said with a smile.
