Chapter Nine:
Morticia stood next to Lurch, head down, hidden by a black veil, with her hands folded in front of her Adam and Eve style, while they watched the coffin lower slowly into the ground by ropes. Lurch insisted on a traditional funeral.
She had stood by his side for a whole week now, planning the funeral with him, comforting him all while strengthening his affection he had for her. It was all going perfectly.
A light drizzle from the dark, overcast sky began to fall upon the very few mourners of Lurch's family gathered around the coffin, Gomez being the only person present who kept a respectable distance away. Only family was allowed to be around it at this time and the fact Lurch wanted Morticia at his side showed that he was indeed wrapped around her finger.
As the funeral drew to a close, Lurch took Morticia's hand in his massive one and led her into the shadow of a large mausoleum.
"Morticia," he whispered gently, his low voice vibrating the cobwebs above their heads as they glistened with rain drops. "I want to thank-you for helping me through this difficult time; you truly are a dark angel."
Morticia looked into his love-struck eyes with her own blank, cobalt ones and smiled gently as she thought darkly to herself, 'If only you knew...'
"And I don't think I could ever get by without being in your presence but I feel you deserve better than my maid," Lurch continued, taking both her hands now as he looked deep into her dark pools of blue. "So how would you feel about being my wife?"
Morticia let out a sigh as she smiled, "I thought you'd never ask."
A smile actually formed across Lurch's grey lips as he joyfully replied, "I'm pleased to hear you say that. When would you like to be married, my dear?"
"Hmmm," Morticia hummed, trying to appear happy and thoughtful. "How about in three days time, this Friday...the 13th."
"It will be done!" Lurch grinned before holding her hand and walking with her down the weed-ridden driveway to where Gomez was waiting with the car.
The next day was a delightfully gloomy Wednesday and Morticia was instructing Gomez, who was now her servant as well as Lurch's, on how to decorate the house for the approaching wedding.
"Just a little bit to the left," Morticia said as Gomez hung up a beautifully embroidered spider web.
"So...the wedding will be on Friday?" Gomez asked her as formally as possible, in case Lurch was nearby.
She nodded before reaching up to assist Gomez in pinning the spider web so she could lean toward his ear, "And I know exactly how we can do away with him that very night."
"Do you now?" Gomez grinned as she and Gomez stepped down and stood next to each other, pretending to examine the position of all the decorations they had put up.
"Yes," she continued with a sinister glint in her eye. "After the wedding, which will be here, we will naturally go upstairs to...y'know...then I'll act all frisky and blindfold him. At that time, you can come in and help me hold him down because when I go in to slit his throat I'll need help because I'm almost certain once the knife touches his skin he'll throw me off."
Gomez nodded in understanding before Morticia leaned in and whispered, "It will be a classic murder at midnight."
"I like it...," Gomez smiled evilly just as Lurch walked into the room. "The decorations are wonderful, Madam...I really, really like the theme," Gomez quickly covered himself.
"Thank-you, Gomez," Morticia smiled before turning her attention to Lurch, as a loving fiance would...
