I woke up feeling as if something was wrong. I glanced at the two blondes next to me and sighed, they were fast asleep. I walked outside and it was still dark, the moon's light reflected off the sea in the distance. I walked down to Fireworks Beach, and found a small pool. Staring down at my reflection, I suddenly received an Iris message from Nico di Angelo.
"Did you feel it? he sounded paranoid and scared when he spoke.
I blinked trying to register his question. "Feel what Nico?"
I saw him shrug in the Iris message. "I don't know I just woke up a little while ago feeling strange, like something was going to happen."
"That must have been what I felt too. But I think whatever it is already happened." I frowned, and thought about what the Oracle had told me long ago. Nico seemed to have read my mind.
"Do you think this is what the oracle was talking about when you went to her all those years ago?"
I nodded as I answered him. "I think this is exactly what the oracle was talking about."
"What do you think it means."
"The Oracle said 'You will loose one who is your world, a gift from Aphrodite. A gift returned by the Underworld's lord. A switch will start your journey. West is where you must go, with an angel prince of night. But be warned lightning strikes and fire burns. Wisdom's greatest fear returns. Diana soon will reign and a choice must be made: blue or gold.' I frowned "The first part came true when I lost Luke, then your father gave him back. I don't quite understand the rest but whatever it is it can not be good."
"Who is Diana?" His expression gave the impression that he already knew but wasn't sure his answer was the right one.
I felt a chill down my spine. "Someone neither of us wants to meet Nico."
"So you know her?" I nodded in reply.
"Yes unfortunately and we don't get along." changing the subject I said "How is San Francisco?"
"It's decent. This other camp though. I don't like it." He made a face.
"I don't blame you. Romans are..." I paused thinking of a proper description." "Romans are blood thirsty."
"Well right now they are just worried about some missing camper." he frowned, almost like he was worried himself.
My tone changed. "A missing camper?"
He nodded "Yeah. His name is Jason, he's one of the ones in charge around here."
"Hmmm. You're sure his name was Jason?" I stood up.
"Yes. Why?" Now he looked really worried, he had noticed my change in tone.
"I need to go check on something. I'll talk to you later Nico." I waved my hand through the image and the Iris message disconnected. I stood up and walked back to Poseidon cabin. When I knocked on the door Tyson, Percy's brother answered. "Tyson is Percy in there?"
He looked behind him "Um no brother is not here."
"Do you know where he is?" Now i was really worried.
"Tyson does not know. Brother was not here when Tyson woke." I loved it when Tyson spoke in third person. It was so adorable.
'Thats strage' I thought to myself and then looked back at Tyson. "Well if you see him tell him I need to see him right away."
"Tyson will tell brother that pretty girl is looking for him." He stepped out of the cabin and shut the door behind him.
"Thank you Tyson." I heard the call for breakfast "Come on Tyson I'll walk with you to breakfast." He smiled at me and walked up the hill with me behind him. Luke was already there with Lukas sitting at my table with special permission from Chiron and my mother so I sat with them. Tyson sat at the Poseidon table, but he was by himself.
"Where in the world is Percy?" Chiron's voice startled me and I looked at him
"I'm not sure but something isn't right Chiron." I frowned, and sighed.
"I fear you may be correct." His expression turned into a worried frown.
Luke glanced at me, a jealous glint in his eye "You sound pretty concerned about that guy."
"He's a fellow camper and a friend Luke, you have nothing to worry about. I'm yours always have been and always will be no matter what." I smiled reassuringly and for a moment I could have sworn I saw a flash of gold in my lovers eyes. The same gold eyes that I had fled from before on that ship as it sailed through the ocean to destroy my family.
One Year Ago (Not exactly a year maybe over just a bit probably during the year between BotL and TLO)
I was wrapped in a silver chiton sitting on a bed holding my child, staring at the back of Luke's head as he examined himself in the mirror.
"You could stay you know. I want you to stay, I always have." he turned around and looked at me his eyes, still a beautiful blue.
"I love you Luke, but we can not stay here and defy the gods." I sat the baby on the bed.
"We? You mean you're taking him with you? He's my son too Aero you can't just take him from me!"
I stood up. "I have no choice. I don't want him to be a part of this Luke."
"This is our future Aero. Kronos will make us gods!" I touched his cheek.
"Kronos will betray you. You can't give up on your family Luke."
He pressed his forehead to mine. "I'm not giving up on you. You are my family not them."
"I'll stay tonight Luke but I'm leaving tomorrow." I kissed his cheek.
"How? We're in the middle of the ocean!" he frowned "Don't do anything reckless."
I laughed "I've already done so many reckless things Luke." he put his arms around me.
"I suppose I'm one of those things." he frowned "Please stay. At least until we dock again."
"Fine." I looked at the small boy who was now laying on the king sized bed behind us "Poor thing. He's all tuckered out. He didn't even finish his peanut butter and jelly sandwich or his chocolate chip cookies." Luke popped a cookie in his mouth
"Yum. More for me." he smirked.
"Luke you're a grown man."
"And? Can a grown man not like PB&J and chocolate chip cookies?' He smiled and his eyes flashed gold. His voice darkened and he wasn't Luke
"Aero darling just forget the gods. Your mother doesn't even approve of this relationship. If you join me, you can still be with Luke. I will not interfere with your love. Not like they will. They'll kill him." He extended his hand to me
"Kronos." I frowned "They'll kill him because of you."
He frowned "Luke's heart belongs to you dear. His mind belongs to me. But he already hated the gods before I found him. His father betrayed him just as your mother betrays you. Think about what she thinks of your beautiful baby boy. She hates him, she wanted you to be a maiden. To give up on your love for Luke." Kronos stepped closer to me.
"We stayed together though. Even though mother doesn't want me too."
He moved closer and whispered in my ear, his arms tight around my waist. "But if she had the chance what would she do to him? Because he touched her only daughter she'll kill him. Shoot an arrow through his heart."
"NO!"
Luke's voice brought me back to the present.
"You okay?" His eyes were blue, and filled with concern.
I shook away the horrible thought of my mother hurting the man I love. Would she do it? Could she possibly kill him? Diana would. She's kill him on the spot, but then again she is not my mother. Not really. "I'm fine Luke." I forced a smile.
He kissed my hair. "You look like you've seen a ghost. And you look worried about something."
"Luke I'm fine you don't have to worry about me." I snuggled against his warm body.
"No matter how many times you say that I will always worry. You're my family."
"But I'm not your only family." I protested.
"You and Lukas are." he grinned "No arguing."
I sighed, and saw the flash of gold again, Luke's smile altered slightly, then returned to normal. Was I losing my mind?
Lukas poked my shoulder "Mommy okay?" I looked at him, sometimes I forget how observant he is, even for a demigod.
"Mommy is fine sweetie. Now eat your chocolate chip waffles." I watched Luke cut the waffle up as I ate my own.
After breakfast I went down to the arena and practiced archery. I missed a few shots, and heard the sound of hoofs behind me.
"You don't miss" Chiron appeared beside me "You've never missed. Is there something wrong?"
"Nothing is wrong." I shot again, this time I hit the mark.
"What the Oracle said is bothering you isn't it?" He readied his own bow and shot at a target. He never missed either.
"Something is wrong Chiron. I don't know what but ever since the gods have gone silent something has been wrong." I sighed and fired again.
"I agree. Something is wrong, and Percy Jackson is missing." I missed another shot as I listened to Chiron.
I dropped my bow this time. "Percy is missing? Wouldn't someone have seen him leave camp?"
"I don't think Percy left on his own." he frowned. "Someone took him."
Frowning I looked around to make sure no one was listening "Took him? You mean someone kidnapped Percy Jackson? That's impossible. Monsters can't get into this camp Chiron!."
He nodded "I am aware of that Aero, but I do not think that a monster kidnapped Percy."
"Then who?"
The centaur put away his bow and turned to leave. "I believe this has to do with the new Great Prophecy. As for who took Percy, I believe it was a goddess." He trotted away from me.
I walked back to my cabin where Luke was busy changing Lukas's clothes. He looked at me. "He fell in some mud, so I gave him a bath." Lukas smiled at me in his little orange Camp Half Blood shirt.
"Mud!" he giggled and climbed off the bed to walk over to me.
Picking him up I smiled "You silly boy."
"Lukas clean now!" he giggled. His giggles suddenly turned into a yawn, and he was asleep in my arms. I kissed his hair and laid him down. I turned around and suddenly without any warning Luke kissed me.
"You are hiding something from me Aero." he pressed his hand to my back pulling me closer to him. I suddenly heard the zipper on his jeans come down.
"Luke Castellan what on earth are you doing?!" he smirked at me, his zipper half down.
"I think you know what I'm doing love." his shirt went over his head and hit the floor. He kissed me again.
I kissed back. "Luke this isn't going to get you any information." I pulled away. "None of this tonight." I changed into my pajamas and curled up around lukas on the bed. Luke laid down and put his arms around me, wearing nothing but boxers.
"Fine. But you have to spend time with me tomorrow. You spent all day in the arena today." He played with my hair until he fell asleep. I on the other hand didn't sleep at all that night. I was so worried about what had happened to Percy, and what Chiron had said about a goddess kidnapping him. What goddess would have anything to gain from kidnapping him?
The next morning things got even stranger. That stupid daughter of Athena decided she had to go look for Percy. So she went to the Oracle, and found out she had to find a guy with one shoe. What she brought back were three demigods. One of which was named Jason and radiated Roman aura. When I heard the guy's name I almost did a spit take, but I had to maintain my composure. I left the large group of campers and sent an Iris message to Nico.
"I think I found your missing Roman, Nico. Annabeth just brought back three campers after searching for Percy. One of them radiates the aura of a Roman." I sighed, Nico's face went from intrigued to worried. I'm pretty sure all he heard me say was 'searching for Percy'.
I pretty sure I heard Nico di Angelo whimper. "Why was she searching for Percy? What happened to him?" he fidgeted as he spoke. "Just tell me what happened I can handle it." I sighed and told him everything I knew including Chiron's suspicion that a goddess was involved. "Why on earth would a goddess want to kidnap Percy? Sure he's pissed off a few gods but wouldn't that anger Poseidon if his favorite son was kidnaped. What goddess would want to make Poseidon angry?" Nico continued to ask me all of these questions like he thought I really had the answers to all of them. I swear if this boy had to chose between Percy Jackson's life or the world, he would probably pick Percy. "So why do you think this Roman demigod was taken to Camp Half Blood? Camp Half Blood is for Greek demigods like us. A son of Jupiter doesn't belong there."
"I don't know the answer to most of those questions Nico. I'm as much in the dark as you are. I agree with you there though, a Roman does not belong here. The last time Romans and Greeks were together, in 1864, there was an all out war. The gods decided to keep them separated so they created Camp Jupiter for the Romans. That battle was pretty rough on all of us though."
"Wait 1864, that's 200 years ago, you're talking like you were there and witnessed it. How could you have been there you're like 18." he stared at me and it occurred to me that I had never really talked about being older than I actually look with Nico, even though we met in the Lotus Casino. Although he should understand it, he himself should be over 70 years old.
"Nico, I was there. Like you I'm much older than I look. Remember we did meet in the Lotus Casino. The den of the lotus eaters is just like anything else from the ancient times, it moves. I spent a decent amount of time there. I don't tell many people this though, only few people know where I go when I disappear. I was born in ancient Greece, my father was the mortal Orion, it is something the stories of my mother don't mention, she had one child before she ever made her vow of chastity. I was raised by Orion for a couple of years, maybe 3, then after he died my mother asked Chiron to raise me. You could say I was the first camper of Camp Half Blood."
Nico had been listening to my story intently. He blinked when I finished. "Wow. I had no idea." I could hear shouting behind Nico, a distance away but he became worried. "Sorry. I have to go, can't let the Romans see me Iris messaging." he waved his hand through the image and it faded. I stood up and walked back to my cabin. I ran into the tan boy with curly brown hair that had come to camp with Annabeth that morning. For a moment his hand was ablaze, he quickly extinguished the flame when he saw me staring.
"Sorry, didn't mean to run into you. I'm Leo Valdez." he grinned. His face was that of a joker, if I didn't know any better I'd say he was a son of Hermes with that grin, but I knew better. Leo Valdez was a son of Hephaestus. I knew the instant I saw his hand ablaze, he had the power of pyrokinesis.
"I'm Aero" I didn't actually have a last name but sometimes I did introduce myself as Aero Nightshade the last name of my best friend Zoë, she didn't mind either, to her we were as good sisters. She was my mother's lieutenant up until her father Atlas killed her in battle a few years ago. My mother had made her into a new constellation.
"Cool. I'm a newly claimed son of Hephaestus." It seems I was right about this Leo Valdez, but a pyrotechnic is never good. The last known one started the great fire of London. It's a rare power that is dangerous, demigods with the ability are shunned. Maybe that's why Leo was hiding it.
"You don't have to hide it. I'm not going to tell anyone about your powers." And I wasn't. I know a thing or two about being an outcast. You think having fire powers is bad, try having a maiden goddess for a mother. He looked like he was trying to process what I was saying.
"You know about my powers?" I nodded.
"I've been around a while. I know how to spot the different types of demigods. I knew you were a son of Hephaestus before you told me. You have the same build as the others." He pulled some scrap metal out of his pocket and started tinkering with them.
"So who's your godly parent?" The question took me by surprise. "You're different than the others. You seem more mature, more observant too. Are you a child of Athena like Annabeth? You remind me of her a little bit. But you're also really pretty so maybe you're a daughter pf Aphrodite."
"My mother is Aremis. You asked so don't question it." My tone was probably a little harsher than I intended, possibly because he had compared me to Annabeth. She and I have never and will never get along. She was always jealous of me and Luke. She doesn't deserve someone like Percy. I walked away from him, I needed to go observe this son of Jupiter for myself. Who ever was setting this up wasn't the brightest person in the world.
He was standing outside of the Zeus cabin. His expression was easy enough to read. He couldn't decided whether or not he was going to go inside. I had heard on thee way over he had been claimed by Zeus at the campfire earlier while I was talking to Nico.
"So Jason are you going to enter the cabin or not?" I spoke to him in Latin, the language of the Romans. He took in my words, a little stunned, but he replied in Latin.
"Chiron spoke in Latin as well. I understand it better than Greek. Why is that?" He frowned. "I don't remember anything. Leo and Piper have all of these memories of me that I don't have. I don't even know my last name!"
I switched back to English and my tone sharpened. I was never particularly fond of the demigod children of Zeus, his daughter Thalia and I had a mutual dislike for each other after she joined the Hunters and became my mother's lieutenant in place of Zoë. "Well I don't have the answers Jason but standing out here won't help you much." In a way, Jason reminded me of Thalia. But Jason radiated more control than Thalia, she was a loose canon sometimes. Jason on the other hand was much more stable, more in control. I watched him walk inside, then I left.
That night I dreamt of Tartarus. I was falling into the pit, falling fast until someone caught me. This person was warm, he wore a ripped up orange camp shirt. There was a scar running down his face, I knew that scar, he got it on a quest. The cause of the scar was a dragon claw that was sitting in the Big House attic. His blonde hair was singed slightly at the ends. He was Luke, all except for the eyes. His eyes were gold. When he spoke it wasn't Luke's voice.
"You can not save him. You brought him back. You washed away his painful memories. But a piece of me still remains attached. It is not strong, but it will break you both. I'll pull you both into Tartarus."
