Chapter Sixteen:
They had Morgan Lefay in a version of an interrogation room where he was sitting with his feet up on the table looking content. The snakes continued to move around his head. The agents stood behind the viewing window as Rose read out part of his file.
"Morgan Lefay, age fifty-six leader of the Serpentine Sorcerers. He is known as a low level drug dealer mostly of the mythical class three variety, as in enhanced cocaine. Longest stint of prison was six years for weapons possession ten years ago. He has good legal representation and is smart about how he runs his business, which is why we haven't been able to shut him down permanently."
Morgan watched the tattoo's move about his head. "You don't sound extremely concerned about him."
"I don't waste resources on him when I have gangs dealing drugs to kids that enhances mythical violent tendencies on purpose," Rose said.
Hotch finished reading the file. "How does he figure into the legend of the knights?"
"Historically Morgan has an adversarial role in Arthurian lore but the general theme is that she represents the land itself. A Celtic goddess."
"The snakes on his head?" Rossi asked.
"There are questions about whether snakes ever existed in Ireland. He claims he stole some of the snakes hidden in the mythical land of Eire. He is full of it. If those snakes weren't charmed tattoos they would have set off alarms."
Rose closed the file and made it vanish with a wave of her hand. "Might I suggest the King Arthur speak with him?"
"Will he respect my authority?"
"More than mine. I may tolerate him but I lose my temper quickly when he opens is his mouth."
Hotch went into the room without saying another word.
Lefay took his boots off the table when he entered.
"Morgan Lefay, my Agent King Arthur Aaron Hotchner of the Round Table and FBI you have been arrested for attacking one of my knights. What do you have to say for yourself?"
Lefay smirked. "Where is the son Diana Mordred?"
"I am the one you will be speaking to."
He never stopped smiling. "Clever, sticking to the legend. But you're only a king because of a prophesy. The son of Diana is only truly great person in this building and I can't begin to understand why he would agree to serve the likes of you."
Rose sighed from behind the window. "Talking with him always makes me want to drink."
Hotch leaned forward. "True I may only be king through mythical transfer but I also apprehend people many consider monsters. I have seen into the deepest depths of what some call Hell and I have the scars to prove it. My team is also unfailingly loyal to me and it is their trust that makes me stronger in ways that you can't imagine. Having said that, I think you're a pale imitation of a monster."
All of the snakes on his head turned to look at Hotch. "I think you really believe what you're saying, knight. Very impressive for a mortal."
"Tell me why you're here Mr. Lefay," Hotch said. "You could have left before the agents came in."
"I don't abandon a fight."
"What makes you think there was going to be a fight?"
"You're a fed."
"We only wanted to ask about the Fisher King now stop wasting my time Mr. Lefay," Hotch said standing up, "tell me why you're here."
"Randal Garner offered to take out the Blood Leviathans for me if I agreed to lend him some of my magic inherited from a more distant blood line compared to Diana."
"What did you say?"
"I fight my own battles but the truth is I knew you guys would come looking for me and you know what makes a legend even more powerful?"
"You tell me."
"If the enemy grows a new thicker skin. If the enemy chooses another side. I am going to help you and your agents take down the Order of the Fisher King not out of the kindness of my heart but because I want to be known as Morgan Lefay, King Arthur's greatest ally during the new great war of good against evil."
"What makes you think you will be able to accomplish that by agreeing to help us?"
"Because you're thinking too small King Arthur my friend. Why do you think Rosy's boss is a tyrant with a shield and half the wizarding population wants nothing to do with the council? It is because the Fisher King has been corrupting the community for years and now you need to take down one big bad giant."
Rossi and Morgan turned to Rose. Morgan asked what all three agents were thinking.
"How full of himself is he acting right now?"
Rose was looking at one of her rings with gem stones lighting up. "He is telling the whole truth."
