Author's Note:

Enjoy. I found a place that made sense to stop but I'll have another chapter up soon.

Chapter Seventeen:

While Rose was negotiating the terms of their partnership with the Serpentine Sorcerers, Hotch and the rest of the team were in the conference room. Hotch was looking at Ravenwood's file.

"Why Ravenwood?" asked the team "Who was she to the Fisher King that he decided to show his hand?"

J.J. flipped through the file. "She is a mid-level witch who analyzed spells and painted plant life in an abstract style. She sold them mostly at fairs and did commissions."

Morgan looked at the pictures of the crime scene. "Maybe that is why she was chosen. She analyzed a spell that caught Garner's attention."

Rossi turned to Reid. "What is involved in spell analysis?"

"It involves analyzing how it was written, pronounced, and the effect of accent. It is not the safest art form as you never know what will happen if you change a syllable, which is probably where she gets her abstract inspiration from."

"How did she make money off of it?" Rossi said.

"The spells were probably hidden in the commissions."

Hotch looked through the pictures to look for the painting. "Prentis and Rossi go with Reid to see if anything was missed."

"So this is why you were running the other night," Rossi said as they made their way down the stairs.

"Magic doesn't mix well with electricity so what Ravenwood works on must involve some intense magic," Reid said.

"That explains the pattern that is emerging," Prentis said. "Garcia and I have been running numbers and noted that homes with basements or detached garages was where wizards and witches lived."

Prentis looked at the wall of names. "Looking at this makes me want to have my eyes checked."

Rossi looked at Reid's glowing name. "What is your other middle name?"

"Michael," Reid said looking around at the books on the shelves.

Prentis looked at the paintings. "You know I am not am abstract fan but these are interesting."

Rossi was looking at the plants. "But none look different. This looks like a bizarre pot growing experiment."

Reid was quickly flipping through her notebooks. "She reverses the spells after she finishes examining it."

"Nothing out of place?" Prentis asked. "Any creepy spells?"

"No," he said. "Just a lot of water-based plants. Which is unusual because Lake Mead is thirty-nine miles from here."

Prentis couldn't stop herself from letting out a laugh. "Maybe Ravenwood was the Lady of the Lake."

"No," Reid said quickly, "the pain I saw was very human when I analyzed the scene."

Rossi turned his attention to the wall. He rubbed hands together "Abracadabra."

Reid rolled his eyes. "That is actually just an old medieval medical practice where triangular pieces of paper were hung around necks with two letter removed until an "a" was left and it was supposed to cure people."

"But something about this wall doesn't feel right," Rossi said. "It feels like doesn't belong here like another hidden passage."

Rossi approached and traced his hand around Reid's name. The wall suddenly fell down and Rossi jumped back. Prentis rushed over to see what is was.

A body of dark water appeared. Slowly the form of woman covered in dark hair dressed in seaweed emerged. Her hair parted revealing a glowing white face. There was a smile on her pale lips.

"Greetings," she said in a kind voice. "I am the Lady of Lake your enemy was searching for and I only give my gift to the purest of heart."

Up until that point no one had noticed she was holding a sword that was glowing so bright it was hard to look at.

Excalibur.
