(Author's Note: Hey, look at that, we have an early update, AND some more plot! What more could you ask for? Plus, it's happy. We like happy. Happy is good.

"Medda? Medda, I have a problem!" Katherine called as she burst through the doors of Medda's theatre. Actors and dancers were milling about quickly, and a few of them gave her puzzled looks as they passed. Suddenly, a pink, feather and sequin clad head appeared in the crowd.
"What's this? Katherine? Is everything all right honey?" Medda asked upon seeing the frantic looking woman standing in her foyer. Katherine realized her entrance probably seemed rather urgent and worrisome, so she tried to amend her previous statement.
"Oh! Everything's fine, I just... I needed some advice. I kind of have a problem, er not a problem really, I just-"
"Katherine Kelly I do not have all day sweetheart; now you come with me." Medda instructed kindly, and the two of them climbed the stairs to Medda's dressing room. Katherine bit her lip. She wasn't completely sure why she'd come to Medda; what she needed was her mother, but well, her mother wasn't around, and she sure as hell wasn't going to Aunt Lucille, so Miss Medda Larkin was the closed thing she had.
"Now, what's the issue darling, and keep in mind I have a show in 20 minutes." Medda said once they reached her dressing room. Katherine took a deep, shaking breath and sputtered,
"I'm pregnant." That was the first time she'd ever said it aloud. Medda whirled around and engulfed Katherine in a near suffocating hug.
"Oh! Katherine I am so happy for you! What did Jack say? I'll bet he is so excited!" She gasped all in one breath. Katherine just cringed, avoiding her gaze.
"Well, see that's the problem, um, I haven't actually told him yet..." Medda didn't say anything, just looked at her questioningly, and Katherine felt compelled to elaborate. "I just, I don't know what to say Medda. How do I tell him? I mean, I know he'll be happy, he'll be thrilled, but how do I bring it up?"
"You seemed to be fine with telling me, what's the difference?" Medda pointed out.
"I don't know." she was starting to feel almost ill now. "It just is! I just… I needed help, and you always seem to know what to do Medda, and-oh what do I do?" She sat down with a huff and rested her chin in her hands.
"Oh Katherine," Medda hummed as she headed out to the stage, "You'll think of something. You always do." And just like that, Katherine was alone in Medda's dressing room. That was not the advice she'd been hoping for, but truly, she should have known it wasn't going to be that easy. She wasn't even sure why she was so nervous to talk to her husband. It wasn't as if he would be upset; in fact, Katherine knew Jack was going to be ecstatic, but her heart was still pounding like crazy and her hands were shaking in her coat pockets.
She tried to walk home slowly, but somehow she managed to get there even faster than usual. Her hand was on the doorknob for at least a solid minute before she actually turned it and walked inside.
"Hey Ace," Jack all but chirped, greeting her with a crooked smile. Katherine could actually feel her heartbeat quickening, and she felt sick to her stomach; whether it was from the pregnancy or just nerves, she couldn't tell. She just nodded curtly and mumbled,
"Hey," before rushing past him into the living room and picking up a book. She stared blankly at the page, wracking her brain for something to say. It just wasn't something she was used to bringing up in every day conversation, and honestly, it terrified her. She'd hardly even had time to comprehend it herself, let alone try to figure out how to tell anyone else.
"Is everything okay?" Jack stood in the doorway, his face drawn and worried, holding a cup of tea or coffee-Katherine couldn't tell.
"Of course," she answered, probably far too quickly, because Jack didn't look any less concerned. He approached her slowly, sitting next to her, but leaving a little bit of space between them, and handing her the cup. Katherine accepted it gratefully and sipped it tentatively. It was tea. He'd made her tea. For some reason, that seemed like the biggest deal in the world to her just then.
"You sure? Cause you seem kinda, I dunno, jumpy I guess." Jumpy was an understatement.
"I'm fine, Jack," she said as calmly as she could manage, smiling brightly. "Don't worry about me." Jack sighed, clearly still not really believing her.
"You'd tell me if somethin' was wrong then?" Katherine bit her bottom lip apprehensively.
"Um, Jack..."
"What is it?" He paled, and his eyes widened nervously.
"No no no-it's not like that, there-there isn't anything wrong, don't worry. I just..." Jack looked very confused. She was rambling again. Well, there was no use avoiding the subject any longer. "Jack, I'm pregnant," she spat before she could stop herself. Jack froze. It was as if the news had literally shut down his brain and caused him to forget how to emote. He just stared at her.
"Jack Kelly. I am going to have a baby. We're gonna have a kid. Would you like to comment on that?" She pressed sarcastically. Suddenly, Jack sprang out of his seat and pulled Katherine with him, swinging her around. "Careful, Jack," she reminded him, and he stopped short, instead moving close to her, his arms coming up to encircle her waist.
"Katherine Louise Kelly, this is the best thing that has ever happened to us." He beamed at her, and then suddenly knelt down on one knee so he was eye level with her abdomen, and kissed her just below her ribs.
"You are the best thing that has ever happened to us!" He practically shouted, seeming to be speaking directly to the baby at that point, and Katherine couldn't help but laugh as he hopped up again and pressed his forehead against hers, brushing a stray curl away from her face.
"We're gonna have a baby Ace," he told her again, his hands resting on her waist.
"I am aware of that," she chuckled, but then Jack's face darkened the slightest bit, and his mouth turned downwards.
"You're gonna have a baby Ace," he repeated, this time more thoughtful, and he looked at her warily.
"Jack, I-"
"Sit," he instructed, pointing to the couch. She normally would have protested, but he sounded so insistent, that Katherine automatically did what she was told. Luckily, he went with her, curling into her side and resting one hand protectively on her stomach.
"I'm so happy, Ace," he whispered, pressing his lips to her cheek. Katherine beamed at him, his overprotective nature seeming rather endearing at the time. She knew that it would likely get old within a week, but for the time being, she just let herself enjoy it.
"I'm happy too."
