(Author's Note: Sorry for the late update guys! Although, you did get one midweek, so I guess that makes up for it, right? Anyway, I hope you like it, it's pretty fluffy and cute, but there are some important points in it, so ya know.

Standard disclaimers apply. I own nothing but my own imagination.)

She thought it was the people she missed the most, the rush of hundreds of New Yorkers flooding every street corner. Katherine hadn't been well enough to even leave her own apartment for nearly a week, and it was starting to make her crazy. She just couldn't stand to be in this place any longer. She stood shakily at the window, watching the crowds wistfully, knowing that they had no idea just how lucky they were to be out there. The first flakes of snow were just starting to formulate in the sky, dusting the buildings with specks of white. It was beautiful; Katherine had always thought New York was beautiful. She hardly even noticed Jack coming home from work until two strong arms wrapped themselves around her shoulders from behind.

"A penny for your thoughts?" He muttered, kissing her cheek, and resting his chin on her shoulder gently.

"I just want to go outside, Jack," she sighed, her eyes still glued to the window, "I miss it..."

"Hold on just a minute Ace." Jack articulated, hurrying off into the other room. Katherine smiled faintly, going back to her window to watch a small family, a mother and father and a little girl who looked about eight, trying to navigate the crowd, all of them socketed together so they wouldn't be separated. That would be her soon; she and Jack and their son or daughter...

There was a tap on her shoulder, and she spun around to see Jack, holding out her jacket, scarf, and a pair of mittens.

"Let's go." She must have looked puzzled, because he pushed the articles of clothing toward her, nodding encouragingly. "You've been cooped up here for too long Ace; you could do with a little fresh air. Just as long as you don't stay out too long, and you manage to keep warm, I think you'll be okay. It's better than having you moping around here, staring out the window." Katherine couldn't help but smile. Jack helped her put on her coat, which didn't quite close over her torso anymore, and watched intently as she tied her scarf tightly around her neck and pulled the red mittens over her hands. He offered her his arm, and she took it anxiously.

"Ready to go Mrs. Kelly?" He all but chirped. Katherine laughed, kissing his cheek as she took the first step out of their apartment.

"Absolutely."

Flakes of snow flitted on Katherine's face, melting almost instantly. The icy wind froze the air in her lungs, making breathing a rather difficult task, but she didn't care; she was out of that apartment. Jack stuck close by her side, so as not to lose her in the rushing crowds.

"Oh, I've missed this!" She all but shouted. The sidewalk was slick with ice and snow, and Katherine almost fell a few times, but Jack kept a firm grip on her waist, holding her upright, and she clung to him. She supposed they made quite the spectacle, the two of them, a wide-eyed, slightly pregnant woman, leaning on a worried looking man with messy hair and dark circles under his eyes.

Jojo and Romeo raced past them suddenly, only stopping for a minute once they realized who it was.

"Hey Jack! Hi Kat!" Jojo shouted, waving his arm above his head. Jack mockingly tipped his cap to them as they scampered off, and Katherine laughed. Even after all this time, Jack was a Newsie; he always would be.

The wind seemed to get colder then, if that was even possible, and Katherine tugged at her scarf, trying to block the stream of frozen air. Jack's eyes followed the motion, clearly concerned.

"Are you cold, Ace?" He asked immediately. She nodded, and laughed,

"A little," but when Jack began to take his jacket off to give to her, she stopped him in his tracks.

"Oh no. You don't get to be a gentleman today, Jack Kelly. You put that coat back on right now." He just looked at her stubbornly and said,

"Sorry Mrs. Kelly. You're not just taking care of you now. You're taking care of you and our kid, and I need for you and our kid to not get any sicker than you already are." He handed her the jacket and she begrudgingly put it on.

"I swear, you are..." She trailed off, her attempt to reprimand him lost in the winter breeze. She hated to admit it, but with Jack's heavy coat on over her own, she was actually much warmer, and Jack did his best to hide the fact that he probably regretted giving his jacket away. Katherine decided not to make him suffer out in the cold too long and murmured softly,

"I think we should head back." As much as she loved being outside and amidst the people and the rush of New York again, she knew it couldn't be very good for her. The doctors were already having a hard time identifying what exactly it was that was making her so unusually tired and weak, so she figured she'd best not make it any worse.

"Alright Ace."

Before she let Jack lead her through the door of their building, she took one more look around the crowded streets, and she spotted the family she had seen from her window, leaving a small shop. The father had his daughter on his shoulders, and the mother was laughing brightly at the both of them.

"Jack, look," Katherine whispered, tugging on her husband's sleeve. "That's going to be us someday." He beamed at her, and the two of them stood there in front of their apartment building together, watching the family until they were out of sight. That was going to be them one day-one day soon. That would be them...

(Aww, I just love them so much. Please keep reading and reviewing! I know I say this every time, but reviews and prompts really do make all the work I put into these worth it. I appreciate every single one of you who has already taken the time to review, you guys are the best!
