Disclaimer: Don't own any of them

Michiru rested her damp forehead against the cool wall of the building. Sweat poured down her head while she coughed, unable to stop.

'I feel like crap right now and I can't even rest. Let's see, I still have to redo the accounting, read through the magazines, and study more. At least Haruka's not here to bother me even more...'

She was broken out of her reverie, by some boys' voices.

"What could I do to get back at the president? My ears still hurt," grumbled one of the boys.

Another boy stared off in the distance, tuning out the blonde's' grumblings, since they were after all, all nonsense, when his eyes caught something shocking.

"Hey, look there! Isn't that Kaichou?"

As soon as the words were uttered, Michiru heard them. Her mind raced as she tried to hide from the three students, but unfortunately she was too slow in her sick state.

"For real, a maid? Whoa, let's call everyone over! We have to take a picture of this!" Yaten exclaimed gleefully; he held grudges easily and Michiru had earned one against herself for the way she had treated his friend, no matter what the nurse had said.

"Yaten!" Taiki reprimanded in a clear warning to do nothing, as he avoided looking at the cowering maid in an act of decency. Michiru had always liked the level-headed Taiki the best out of the trio of friends.

Motoki also looked uneasily at the president who wasn't looking too good and said, "I don't know, man. She doesn't look too good."

Ignoring the other two, Yaten grinned maliciously, as he thought of something," Hey, Kaichou. Is it really alright for a maid to boss around boys? Why don't you serve your masters?"

He slowly made his way to the trapped girl while she began to see three of him. Michiru fell into a defensive stance instinctively, when another wave of dizziness came over her and made her sway.

'I can't be weak'

She was just about ready to faint and succumb to the boy's will, when she was suddenly in the arms of someone.

Michiru didn't really care who it was at this point, she was just happy someone had come to save her, though somewhere her pride protested against the "white knight" figure.

"Don't touch her just because she's pretty."

The aqua haired girl froze at the too familiar husky voice. It couldn't be….right?

Meanwhile, the three boys had also frozen. Their hearts had literally stopped beating of shock, when the most popular boy in school, had appeared out of nowhere in front of them. Even more shocking to them was the fact that he was protecting Michiru.

"H-Haruka-san?"

The said person ignored them, and instead placed her palm against the forehead of the smaller woman. She jerked her hand back.

"Damn! You're burning up! Are you okay?" in the midst of Michiru's headache, Haruka's words were barely heard.

"G-Gomen," she apologized in advance.

And she fainted.

Michiru woke up, sweating crazily, to find herself in her room.

'What?'

She snapped her head around at the sound of the door opening, to see her mom coming in with a wet towel.

Kaioh Miyuki, a woman in her mid thirties with wavy chestnut hair that had no signs of graying, was, in a word, elegant. She had grown up in a humble family with both of her parents being pastors. She had been gifted with the voice of an angel that could bring even the most jaded person to tears, and she graced her parents' church's chorus with her talent. As an obedient and modest child, she was the pride and joy of her parents.

But that had all changed when she met Kaioh Akihiko. Their meeting was as much like a fairy tale as his name was; he had been walking past the church when he heard her playing the piano and singing. He had instantly become captivated and they had fallen in love at first sight, or rather first hearing. Although Akihiko cut a tall, handsome figure with his lush dark green hair and toned body, his deep baritone voice was what captured Miyuki's heart. He was a prodigious singer, the only male who seemed able to match her talent and passion.

Of course, love couldn't be that easy. His family was old money, one of the former Japanese aristocratic families who had, after being revoked of their imperial rank, fallen into further wealth by founding the globally successful Kaioh Financial Group*. Along with their business acumen, the Kaioh family was famed for their involvement and support of the traditional and fine arts. The majority of the younger children of the family ended up pursuing careers in the fine arts and Akihiko would have been supported to continue his singing as well, if only he had not been the heir.

As the heir, he was destined to take control of his family business and marry another member of the upper class elite from the hour he was born. His falling in love with a lower middle class girl was no part of his family's plan for Akihiko. When he refused to abandon Miyuki when she had become pregnant with Setsuna, he had been disowned by his family who easily made his younger brother the new heir.

And so began Akihiko's and Miyuki's years together.

At first, he had been a perfect gentleman, and they lived off their voices. Although gigs were few and far between, they made semi-modest incomes and within a short amount of months, they had bore Setsuna, a beautiful baby girl with the same colored locks as her father. Around four years later, they had another child, who they named Michiru.

They lived happily as a family without much difficulties until one day when Michiru was in middle school, Akihiko had simply disappeared, leaving a huge debt behind. There were no overt signs the days before his departure (he had seemed a bit down but not unusually so) so the abandonment struck the remaining three with a sharper severity than it would have if there had been little hints leading up. Perhaps, that was why both Michiru and Setsuna had grown up so quickly.

None of that sadness showed on her face now, as she placed the towel on her daughter's face after brushing loose bangs away.

"Michiru," she began playfully with a mischievous glint in her eyes that were the same as her daughter's," Who was the handsome guy that left you his scarf?"

The aqua haired girl lying on her bed looked around confused, when her eyes were caught by a pure white scarf. She racked her brain to remember who had a scarf like that, but had absolutely no record of someone wearing a scarf, "I don't know."

"Well, he seemed to not want you to get even sicker. Will I be meeting him soon?" once again, her eyes flickered with naughtiness.

"Okaa-san!" Michiru sat up, making the towel drop off her forehead. Miyuki placed the towel back on her forehead and gently pushed her daughter back down.

"I'm just joking. Now get some rest, you don't want to miss another day of school do you?" she placed a kiss on her sick daughter's cheek and quietly left the room.

'I wonder whose scarf it is….Could it be Haruka's? No, why am I thinking that, there is no reason for her to give me her scarf…right?'

And with that thought in mind, she drifted off to sleep.

A/N: In denial much, Michiru? Hopefully Michiru's family background wasn't too long. More will be explained later.

Michiru didn't her change her last name from Kaioh although she hates her father for leaving because it was too complicated a process. Also, she wouldn't have to worry about people recognizing her as being part of the Kaioh family because during the Meiji Restoration, people were free to choose their last names. Many decided to take on the last names of the aristocratic families even though the Meiji Restoration also got rid of all of the aristocratic families except for the Imperial Family. Logically, since I'm saying that the Kaioh Family was an old aristocratic family, there should be a fair amount of people with the last name Kaioh who aren't part of the Kaioh family.
