A/N: Prior warning I'm not sure this chapter is my best work, but I managed to write it out quicker than I expected. Still, hopefully it's me being too critical of my work.
Enjoy!

Chapter Twenty
Forced Confession
The following week was uneventful, but in a good way. Even before the vampires came out of the coffin so to speak Sookie's life had been far from normal, her ability to read the minds of everyone she had come across forcing her to stand out whether she liked it or not. It made her feel like a freak, and it was only recently after working alongside Eric and Godric that she had finally started to see that maybe her disability wasn't a disability at all, but simply a quirk.
Hopefully someday in the near future she could fully accept herself, telepathy and all.
The lack of stress had proved to be a relief, her nights consisting of a mixture of work and laundry alongside taking full advantage of the few mornings she wasn't scheduled to be on shift. She may not be the type of person to enjoy a long lay-in, but she could appreciate not having to rush.
It was, nice.
Even with the anger and worry directed towards Lafayette and Jason. She still couldn't fully grasp what the hell the two of them had been thinking.
Surprisingly, Eric had visited her work every other day, taking enjoyment out of scaring the crap outta Lafayette whenever the dark skinned chef caught sight of the tall Viking. Her attempt at getting him to cut it out had backfired after he rolled his eyes, reminding her of his previous lenience.
She may not like it, but she had to admit Eric was right.
It was still a shock that he had allowed Lafayette to leave unharmed, and while he had been little shaken up, it hardly a surprise after the stressful kidnapping he had been through, she knew it could have been a lot worse if she hadn't just been finishing her shift and intervened. It hadn't been until she had gotten home that she realised something wasn't right, that if Eric had wanted to remain unnoticed she had no doubt in his abilities to do so with ease.
He had wanted her to both intervene and follow, something she wouldn't put past the manipulative Viking.
However, as of late she couldn't deny the fact that while his personality still consisted strongly of both crass and rude comments filled with innuendos; he had been strangely sweet to her. It was something she had never expected the Viking to be capable of. She couldn't help but think something about Godric's near suicide was somehow responsible.
It made it hard for her to dislike being in his presence.
Gentle touches soon followed, the fact he was being almost charming towards her only making it harder for her to resist or pull away from his continuous affections.
She was conflicted.
She couldn't deny that she genuinely liked Eric's company when he wasn't a possessive jerk who spared no thought of what he said or done in front of her. She wanted to encourage this behaviour, not desiring him to go back to the bastard he had been only a few weeks ago. She had dealt with that Eric enough already to realise that she did not want to be seeing that version of him again anytime soon, especially not after she had been on the receiving end of his kinder and more considerate attitude.
She blushed slightly just thinking about it; she had hugged him for goodness sake.
She was getting too close and she knew it.
"Jason Stackhouse you get in this house right now!"
The last thing Sookie had prepared herself for was answering the door Friday morning only to see her shameful bother on the other side, a wide grin on her face that looked so familiar that it made all the information she had tried to push to the back of her mind rise to the surface.
…Lafayette's indiscretion…
…Her own brother, her flesh and blood, killing an innocent vampire…
…She was related to a murder.
Slap!
Jason stared at her in shock, "Aw, what the hell Sook?"
His lack of caring only added fuel to the fire as she hissed "get inside!" before reaching out to grab him by his shirt. It was only his shock that allowed her to physically tug him inside of the house. "Where on earth have you been? Do you have any idea just how much trouble you are in?" She slammed the door shut before turning to face him fully. She was beyond fuming.
Redness bloomed against Jason's cheek. She couldn't bring herself to feel anything other than satisfaction at the sight of it.
"What the hell are you talking about? I've only just gotten back, I can't be in trouble already."
"Oh really?" she hissed sarcastically, her own face flushed as she crossed her arms over her chest. Was he really going to straight out deny it to her face? "Then please enlighten me as to why I've had to plead Eric, you know the vampire of this entire Area who is already out for your blood, not to hunt you down in order to 'extract'" she cringed at her choice of terminology "the truth out of you?" she yelled. He was going to, not to mention he still wants to, torture you, Jason! What is it about that you don't understand?"
She was near tears with the frustration she was experiencing. "What has possessed you to get on the wrong side of such a powerful vampire, Jason? Their authority is a far cry from our own."
He stared at her bewildered, "what on earth are you talkin' about? You lost ya mind, Sooks?"
"I have lost no such thing! Since clearly your not going to admit it yourself, a vampire called Eddie ring any bells?" she demanded.
Jason stared at her blankly, "who?"
Disgust filled her at the fact he had drained, dehumanised, and killed a vampire – one of god's creations - he didn't even know the name of. Their parents, not to mention their Gran, had not raised him to be like that. They had been taught Christian values!
"Eddie, Jason!" she screeched. Jason's clueless expression only infuriated her more. How did he manage to sleep at night? "Do I have to spell it out for you?"
Silence.
"He was the vampire you drained with that bitch girlfriend of yours, Amy!"
Colour drained from his face at her admission, telling her all she needed to know when it came to confirming whether or not he was capable of doing it.
She wanted to be sick.
"I-"
"Lafayette didn't snitch on you and that's the least of your worries," she spat after catching sight of his expression. Was that really what was playing on his mind right now? The fact that Lafayette may have told on him rather than him killing an innocent man. "Do you have any idea how much trouble you are in?"
"I didn't mean it!" Jason immediately confessed; his thoughts a whirl of fear, worry and regret. She couldn't concentrate, not when her anger was ruling her emotions. "It was Amy's idea, you know me, and I'd never be able to think up something like that on my own. She wanted to get high but the V was either too expensive or we couldn't find any, even the little Lafayette had was too much of a price to pay. It made sex…"
She cut him off with "you did it for sex!"
All of this; endangering his life in addition to resulting to murder all just because he could enhance his sex life. Jason got around, it wasn't something she was proud of being his sister but she accepted that it made him happy, but he had stooped to a new low. There was nothing about his actions that she approved of.
"It was stupid, ok!" he shouted. "I'm sorry! But-"
"There are no buts, Jason. I can barely look at you right now without wanting to be sick. What you did is disgusting. Pull yourself together; we're going to Fangtasia tonight. Hopefully it isn't too late to salvage something with some kind of arrangement that doesn't end up with you dead."
Defeated, she moved to sit in her armchair, head in her hands as she tried to fight back the tears of frustration that wanted to escape. She needed to get a grip.
"You're not really telling me to go to him voluntarily are you?" Jason asked shocked, "do you want him to kill me?"
She sighed, "of course not. Do you really think he isn't going to come looking for you, Jason? or that he wouldn't be able to if you decided to run? He has so many alliances you wouldn't even make it out of Bon Temps without him knowing about it." Looking up she stared at her brother, hating to see him literally sweating in fear but relieved that he was finally taking it seriously. "You killed a vampire."
She still couldn't believe it.
Jason rapidly shook his head. "It wasn't me…I couldn't…wouldn't…Amy freaked out, got all paranoid and shit, and then boom there was blood and guts everywhere and she had staked him. I haven't seen her since I swear."
Scrubbing her face with her hands Sookie was at a loss, but she knew whether he liked it or not Jason would be going to see Eric tonight even if she had to call in Godric's help. He needed to take responsibility for his part in a vampire's murder. If what he was saying was the truth, it still didn't matter that he wasn't the one to stake Eddie, not when he had both been present and helped to clear it up. Jason may not see Eddie as being human enough for it to deeply affect his morals, but she would be dammed if he didn't realise the full extent of his involvement.
He needed to do more than learn from his mistakes.
He had no one to blame but himself.
"Just get out of my sight, Jason" she sighed. "Meet me here just before sunset, hopefully if we get there early Eric will be more lenient. If you don't turn up not only will I be furious but I'll be disappointment, enough so that I wouldn't think twice about making a call and dragging you in there myself."
Because however disgusted she was at her brother, the last thing she wanted was to see any harm come to him. He was the only family she had left; she just hated that she had found herself in such a difficult situation that conflicted so strongly with her morals.
So much for a stress free week, she thought pathetically.
OOOOOOOO -LINE- OOOOOOOOOO
Fangtasia was already in full swing as she pulled her little yellow rust bucket into the parking lot, only feeling slightly guilty for parking in a Staff Only space. Illegally parking was the least of her worries at the moment.
"Are you sure about this, Sooks?"
Sweating profoundly, Jason sounded nervous enough for the both of them. It made her relieved that he was for once taking the consequences of his actions seriously. She wouldn't be able to come to his aid if something like this happened again, there was only so much Eric would be willing to twist his usual protocol for and she already knew she was drastically pushing her luck.
She couldn't afford to set Eric off, not when the situation with Lafayette had yet to be resolved.
Turning off the ignition Sookie sighed. "Be careful with what you say, Jason. If you lie I won't support you. If Eric asks something of you that you're capable of then please don't argue, not when he is in every right to…uh…"
Still a little fuzzy on those details she made a mental note to ask Godric about the in-depth workings of vampire politics. She knew it was an area that was kept under wraps from humans, something that didn't extend to her kind, but she figured considering her gift and all it was possibly she could be considered an exception to that unwritten rule. He had already told her more than most humans could ever hope to find out.
She was extremely flattered her trusted her as much as he did.
Swallowing, "what do you think he's going to ask me to do for him?"
"I don't know, Jason" Sookie sighed, grabbing her purse before heading outside. It was chilly; making her relieved she had decided to wear jeans. "I'll be at your side so hopefully we can come to some sort of arrangement, though if he asks you to give up Amy-"
Jason didn't hesitate. "The girls' gone nuts, as far as I am concerned he can hav at her. I don't even know if this is ta first time she's gotten herself into this type of situation, but fuck if I want anythin' else ta do with it."
Clearly chivalry wasn't dead, she thought sarcastically.
Still, she couldn't complain that her brother was at least willing to co-operate.
As they made their way towards the front of the queue Sookie couldn't help but smile when she saw it was Chow on ID duty, even if a small part of her automatically seemed to wonder what Pam was up to.
"So…" Jason chewed his bottom lip, a habit he knew must be genetic considering how often Sookie did it. "This Eric a scary dude then?"
"Kind of," she shrugged, only partially listening as she greeted Chow with a smile. "Hey Chow, this is my brother Jason, Jason this is Chow."
"Hey man-"Jason paused, the glowering looked he was on the receiving end off enough to have his hands trembling.
Did his sister really like hanging around with such creepy people?
"You are late!" Chow hissed, eyes flashing. Jason flinched while Sookie couldn't help but flush in embarrassment. It was clear Eric had been tracking her brother if he was aware that they were heading over; she had to admit it was a little unsettling.
"I'm so sorry, but my car-"
Charmingly, Chow's lips curved "not you, Sookie." As if a switch was flicked his eyes narrowed into slits, all happiness wiped from his face as he glowered at her brother with a look of anger and disgust. "You on the other hand, are late!"
Just what did his sister do to gain all so much favour? It brought Jason up short, but he knew better than to jump to conclusions. Had it been anyone other than his virginal sister he would have assumed she was bedding the lot of them at once.
"I wasn't aware I was on any time limit-"
"Jason!" Sookie scolded. "Be nice! For goodness sake you are here to apologise and explain, not the other way around. Now get your arse inside before Chow here will be gentlemanly enough to do it for me!"
Shocked and humiliated at such a public dressing down from his sister, the humans in line laughing at his expense, Jason made a move to tell his sister just where she could shove her so-called concern when a vampire who looked barely into his teens slipped out of the bars entrance.
Before Jason could help himself "are you even old enough to be in here?"
Silence.
Sookies mouth dropped open in shock at her brother's frankly offensive question. It didn't help matters that not only did she already cared deeply for Godric who was older than her Jesus Christ for heaven's sake, but that Chow looked ready to attack on the spot as his sheriffs maker was subjected to such disrespect.
"Jason!"
Still speechless, she quickly moved to face Godric with an apologetic expression. She had never felt so humiliated. "I am so sorry, he's my brother-"
"It is fine, älskling" Godric interrupted her smoothly.
Wrapping an arm around her waist he swiftly ignored her brother in favour of guiding her into the club, the easy touch not off-putting in the slightest as she made sure her mental shields were firmly in place before she was hit with the pulsing beat of the music.
While she was in her element, she couldn't say the same for her brother.
Trailing nervously behind her, Jason seemed to struggle with the concept of what was occurring in the club. She knew the possibility of her brother accepting the fact people willing sort out vampires was a shot in the dark; he just couldn't seem to grasp the fact that humans and vampires were equal.
She couldn't blame him for wanting to stay close.
"Uh, where are we goin'?"
Godric answered Jason's question with a sharp "office," contrasting the softer tone he had taken with his sister. Jason sighed, realising that perhaps he would have been better off not insulting what he now realised to be a vampire and not some underage kid who had managed to sneak inside with a fake ID.
He was already in enough shit as it was without adding to it.
As he nervously scanned the club, taking note of the half-naked women he had not expected to see, he at least figured he would make the best of the situation at hand. While he wasn't exactly undead, nor did he have the equipment nor desire to suck their blood, he didn't doubt that many of them would love the opportunity to sit on his dick.
He grinned, maybe he could end the night in the arms of a woman who would be all too happy to make him forget about the shit storm he had found himself in.
His dick twitched at the thought.
