Ron and Harry sat in the great hall noticing all the sugary treats for this special night. Harry looked in awe and melancholy feeling both joy and sadness recalling that this was the day he lost his parents. Ron was amazed at all the food that was prepared. He knew magic could do a lot but this was all amazing. He half wondered why wizards let people starve if they could make such feasts appear as though they were nothing at all?
He dug into the lot of food, savoring each and every bite, ignoring Fred and George attempting to prank Percy.
Suddenly, the large doors leading into the enchanted room opened.
"TTRROOOOOOOLLLL! IN THE DUNGEON!" A turban wearing, garlic smelling, Defense Against the Dark Arts professor named Quirrel yelled at the top of his lungs. He stopped running in the dead center of the room.
"Thought you ought to know," he said softly as his eyes rolled to the back of his head and he collapsed onto the floor. Silence was all the hall for a moment before panicked talk and screams and murmurs filled the air. A loud pop emanated through the air gathering everyone's attention.
"Everyone. Follow your prefects back to your dormitories," Dumbledore stated. Well, something like that. That was the general message. Though Percy was in his element. "Gryffindor's follow me!"
Students were herded out of the room as a mass body to remain safe. Fred and George looked back at Ron and Harry, but were pushed forward away from the first years to be taken to the dormitory. Harry and Ron were in the back, a little looser and easier to fall behind. Ron heard Harry gasp.
"Hermione!"
"What?" Ron questioned.
"She doesn't know about the troll!"
Ron bit his lip with concern.
"Alright. I think I heard some girls talking about a first year crying in the girl's bathroom. I'll bet all my sweets that's where Hermione is."
"Then let's go!" Harry said quickly. Ron ran after him away from the fellow students. Turning through the ever confusing halls, the unmistakable smell of gym socks and sewer sludge pierced through the air. Ron choked, barely able to hold down the sweets from his dinner. Steady, slow lumbering footsteps slowly made their way down the hall. A large wooden club scraping against the stone cold floor. Both boys didn't move as it entered a room.
They looked at one another before running to the room. They pushed the door shut and pushed a broom through the handle, trapping the troll. They smiled at one another when they heard a girlish scream. Both boys looked up, above their head was the sign for the girl's lavatory. They looked back at one another.
Without thinking, they pulled the broom out of the handle and ran into the bathroom. The large lumbering troll stood over Hermione, paralyzed in fear. Sinks were destroyed and water was everywhere making the floors slick.
Harry ran forward and jumped on the troll's back, his arms wrapped around the thick meaty neck. Ron ran forward and grabbed Hermione's hand.
"Come on, I don't think your parents would appreciate their daughter being troll food," Ron joked pulling her to her feet. He pushed the distraught girl forward as Harry shoved his wand up the troll's nose. Ron turned to face the annoyed creature. He lifted his wand and said the first thing that came to his mind.
"Wingardium Leviosa!" he cried out. The club slipped from the troll's hand and flew into the air. Harry jumped off the troll's back as Ron released the club. A sickening crack rattled in their ear drums.
"I-Is it dead?" Hermione asked with fear.
"I think it's just knocked out," Harry stated. Ron wrinkled his nose as Harry pulled his wand out of the troll's nose.
"Ugh, troll boogies," Ron groaned. Harry had his own look of disgust as he wiped the wand on the troll's possibly soiled pants. It was then that authority had arrived. Running into the room was McGonagall, Snape, Quirrel, and Charlie. Each held a different look on their face. McGonagall was furious. Her eyes narrowed like a hawk ready to kill. Snape looked anger and... In pain? Quirrel looked sick to his stomach as he clenched his heart. Charlie had a strange mix of concern and pride.
"What happened here?!" McGonagall raged.
"It was my fault Professor!" Hermione blurted out. Everyone looked at her like she was crazy, " I had read all about mountain trolls. I thought I could handle it on my own. I didn't think I would freeze up. I would be dead if Harry and Ron hadn't run in to save me."
Ron and Harry looked at one another. With a slight shrug of the shoulders, they both decided to act as if the story wasn't new to them. Charlie kept his eyes on Ron searching his face for lies,as was Snape on Harry's face, both for different reasons entirely.
"Well Miss Granger. That was a very foolish thing to do. Five points from Griffindor. And as for you two. Not many first year students could take down a full grown mountain troll. Five points each," McGonagall said stiffly, "Now return to your dormitories. Everyone is finishing their dinners in there."
The trio left the bathroom with great haste. Harry in the lead, Hermione in the middle and Ron taking up the back. Once they arrived in their dormitories they began to head their separate ways, if not for Percy, they would have succeeded.
"Where have you been?!" He hissed keeping them all together, "You were supposed to remain with the others. Don't you know how dangerous trolls are? Did you think you could handle one with less than a year of spells you know?"
"We didn't have much of a choice. Hermione didn't know about the troll and we went to get her," Harry stated. Ron looked at his friend with slight confusion. Usually he didn't say anything against authority figures. Even if they misunderstood the situation. Like with Neville's ball from his grand mum.
"You could have told me. I'm a prefect, it's my responsibility to watch all of you," he said looking over the three. His eyes lingered slightly longer on Ron before addressing the three once more, "You're lucky you didn't run into the troll. Now, go finish your dinner."
The three eagerly escaped from Percy the Prefect, with a friendship that was forged under a mountain troll's club.
So... I think this is meh. Love all of your guys' comments. Some aspects I didn't even think of. Ron's point of view is actually rather tricky for me. Especially with an AU like this. I hope I did the story and scene justice. Please review.
