Author's Note:

Hello all and here is another chapter. This time around Winona Kirk visits the Enterprise for the first time. Thank you for your continued support and I hope you enjoy the chapter.

I own nothing.

A Mother's Visit

Jim was the closest to panicked McCoy had ever seen him.

The younger man was fidgeting agitatedly as he stood next to him by the transporter pad and it was getting on his nerves, "Jim, stop fidgeting. There is nothing to worry about."

If anything Jim looked even more worried, "But Bones she's coming aboard. What if the ship isn't clean enough or we've forgotten something? It's my mom I don't want anything to spoil her visit."

"Jim, everything is sorted, the ship is spotless and we haven't forgotten anything, you should know since you've checked it all about five times. What's more, I think she'll be happy to see you even if the place is a pigsty and crew are running around naked. Stop worrying."

"But what if…"

"Dammit Jim! Everything is going to be fine. Stop panicking!"

Any further conversation was cut off by the appearance of whirling lights on the pad indicating someone being beamed aboard, a few seconds later Winona Kirk fully materialised.

Jim instantly relaxed and went straight to meet her and she immediately pulled him into a hug exclaiming, "Jimmy, it's been ages since we last met properly."

Jim tried to extract himself from his mother's tight embrace, "I know Mom but it's hard to get shore leave that coincides with yours."

"I know dear, that's why it's wonderful that you've managed to arrange this visit, I'm looking forward to seeing your ship."

She finally let go of him and they stepped off the transporter pad to where McCoy had been waiting for them as Jim continued the conversation, "I can give you a full tour but first let me introduce you to Doctor Leonard McCoy."

Happy that his friend hadn't introduced him as 'Bones', McCoy offered his hand to the women, "It's a pleasure to finally meet you Mrs Kirk, Jim mentions you a lot."

Anything else he was going to say was cut short as she grabbed his hand and began shaking it furiously, "Doctor McCoy, I've heard a lot about you and thank you so much for looking after my Jimmy the last couple of years."

McCoy grinned as he saw the embarrassment on Jim's face and, now having extracted his hand from Winona's vigorous handshake, answered, "Well after I met him on that shuttle I realised that someone would have to try and keep him out of trouble and be able to patch him up afterwards."

The women smiled a mischievous glint in her eye, "Well it's good that someone is looking out for him, he's been getting into trouble ever since he was a baby. I remember one time when he was five…"

"Mom, do you want to see the rest of the ship?" Jim neatly cut across his mother successfully interrupting what was no doubt a very funny and embarrassing story.

She grinned at him before returning to her normal smile, "Of course I do Jimmy but I thought Pavel would be here to meet me as well, I've only seen and spoken to him through a veiwscreen when you've commed me."

"He wanted to Mom but he's unfortunately on duty at the moment. If you want I can show you the bridge first cause he'll at his station there."

"I'd like that very much Jim."

The walk to the bridge was largely uneventful as Winona and Jim were in deep discussion about the differences between the Enterprise and other ships with Jim occasionally pointing out the different rooms and consoles that they passed. McCoy followed along slightly behind them not wanting to intrude on their conversation, that and it was unlikely he'd understand all of it anyway. They soon arrived at the bridge to the usual sound of Pavel's voice, "Keptain on ze bridge."

The teen was as quick as ever in noticing Jim's arrival and announcing his presence. Because of this Jim had made it his mission to one day get onto the bridge when Pavel was on duty without the boy noticing, he had yet to succeed. This time the teen's announcement also allowed Winona to instantly see where he was and she headed straight in his direction. Pavel had just enough time to turn his seat away from his station before she pretty much picked him up in a tight embrace similar to the one she'd given Jim upon her arrival, "Pavel it's so nice to finally see you properly."

"Eet's nice to meet you properly as vell Mrs Kirk." He managed to gasp out. He'd been warned that Winona would greet people with either a huge hug or a vigorous handshake, apart from a few exceptions there was no other alternative. She let go of Pavel and looked him up and down, "You look thin dear, have you been eating properly?"

A pink tinge started to form on the boy's cheeks, "Yes Mrs Kirk, just like you alvays tell me to een your comms."

"It's just that you always look so thin Pavel."

"Don't vorry Mrs Kirk, Doctor McCoy ees alvays checking up on me."

"You bet I am kid," McCoy cut in, "and it's not just you there are several others on this tin can who are just as bad for skipping meals."

"Is my Jimmy one of them by any chance?" Winona asked

"He's one of the worst Mrs Kirk; I don't think a day goes by when I don't have to force him to eat at least one of his meals."

"Well you have my full permission to do whatever is necessary to get him to eat. I want to make sure my little Jimmy is looking after himself properly."

At this point Nyota stepped into the conversation and introduced herself to Winona and Jim took the opportunity to glare at Bones since the doctor seemed to be enjoying his embarrassment far too much. McCoy just grinned at him and Jim knew it was only going to get worse.

His prediction proved correct and he was starting to wish for the bridge floor to swallow him. After Nyota introduced herself the two women seemed to get along exceptionally well and Jim could just see the inevitable swapping of stories about him that was going to occur. His mother was apparently determined to embarrass him in front of his crew as much as possible and consistently used all the pet names she had for him like Jimmy or little Kirk or, the worst one of all, darling Jimsy Wimsy. McCoy wasn't helping by adding to the conversation with his own comments or stories of Jim's various escapades throughout the time he'd known him, including the one where he'd had a bit too much to drink one night and woke up in his academy dorm the next day in a white rabbit costume. His only consolation was that his mom was also mother henning Pavel to an extent that was almost frightening, with at least six separate inquiries as to whether he was eating properly, followed by commenting on how thin he looked, he was a growing boy who needed a lot of food and was he being looked after properly, was he resting well and are you making sure that no-one is picking on him Jimmy?

Eventually Jim managed to get her off the bridge with the offer of showing her Engineering, though his pride had most definitely been very badly wounded. Winona and Scotty got on well immediately and were soon off discussing warp drives, transporters and Scotty's trans-warp beaming equation. This left Jim mostly just standing to the side listening because although his engineering knowledge was fairly good it was nowhere near the level of his Mom or Scotty. This managed to fill time and Pavel joined them halfway through since his shift had ended adding to the cofusing coversation of calculations and starship parts and soon it was time for Winona to finish her visit.

They were back in the transporter room and McCoy and Pavel were also seeing Winona off with Jim. "Thank you for showing me your ship Jimmy, she is most definitely beautiful." She said.

"Thanks Mom." Jim answered.

She looked at Pavel next, "It was wonderful to meet you properly Pavel. I expect you to look after yourself and keep in touch with me."

"I vill Mrs Kirk, speak to you soon."

She then nodded at McCoy, "It was a pleasure Doctor McCoy, you'll keep a close eye on these two wont you?"

"Indeed I will Ma'am; they certainly need someone to keep a close watch of them."

She smiled in response then turned back to her son, "Goodbye Jim and I'll speak to you soon."

Jim grinned back, "You can count on it Mom, goodbye."

She gently kissed his cheek and took her place on the transporter pad, giving one last smile as she dematerialised.

It was a long time before McCoy stopped finding calling Jim 'Jimsy Wimsy' funny.

PS-I hope you enjoyed that and please let me know what you thought.
