A/N: Plots hopefully going to be getting a move on now. The setting has been accomplished so now we can really get to the good stuff! Tara came off bitchier than I had intended in the previous chapter, but I've decided to roll with it. I always thought she was a little on the bitchy side, but hey, that's her character.

Reviews by the way are amazing! Were nearly at 900 so keep it up! ;) xxx

Disclaimer: I do not own True blood; I just borrowed the characters for a bit of fun!

Chapter Twenty-Three
Confrontations

"You got two on the go?"

Sookie's eyes widened, visibly chocking on the small amount of water she had just sipped as she felt her face flare at Tara's blunt question. Coughing, she attempted to right herself without making more of a scene. She could already feel multiple eyes on her.

"Want me to kill her?"

"Jesus Pam!" Sookie startled at Pam's abrupt appearance next to her.

Red lips were curved upwards in her usual look of distaste. It made her wonder why Pam was so invested in a club where everyone that came apart from the odd few vampires she hated with a passion, often referring to them as vermin and blood-bags.

"Did I scare you?" she purred, brow raised.

Rolling her eyes Sookie shifted towards the wall to make room, Pam gracefully sliding in next to her much to the nervousness of both Tara and Arlene. Sookie wasn't naïve enough not to realise that they were both uncomfortable around vampires, it being ridiculous really considering unless you disrespected them or attempted to kill them they were usually nicer to be around than humans.

They certainly learned from their mistakes, unlike some.

"Chow is keeping you refreshed I can see," Pam looked at her glass with approval.

"Uh, I guess" Sookie shifted in her seat. "It's as if he just waits for me to finish before refilling my glass. Its sweet, but he doesn't have to when I'm not even a paying customer." Whenever she tried to pay for her drinks she was met with looks of refusal. It was infuriating.

Pam waved her off, "it is a sign of respect, relish in it, dear" she purred. "You will be treated like a queen!"

Tara's snort broke through Pam's delight, her eyes instantly narrowing as the humour left her features as quickly as it came. It was unsettling to Arlene especially, she was easily intimidated on her best days but she was quickly reassessing her hopes of shacking up with a vampire the more time she spent in their company.

Perhaps she should stick to what she was best at; human men.

"Something wrong?" Pam demanded flatly.

Previous humour gone Tara figured she might as well continue with her comment now some prissy bitch was trying to get involved. Vampire or not she wasn't about to be spoken to as if she was shit. After seeing that the woman clearly had some human emotion in the way she spoke to Sookie it was a lot less threatening to be in her presence, not to mention with the amount of witnesses around it wasn't as if anything would or could happen to her.

"Are you sleeping with her as well?" Tara snipped out, watching in amusement as Sookies face went even redder.

Pam's eyes narrowed, lips pursed unimpressed.

"Tara!" Sookie hissed embarrassed. "How much have you had to drink?"

"Only a beer, haven't been here long" Tara shrugged. "By the sounds of it though, you've had quite a few," she jerked her head towards her nearly half-drunken glass.

Sookie flushed, though this time in anger. "I've had two and there's barely any alcohol in each drink!" she spoke defensively, her anger rising when Tara barked out a laugh.

"Really? Are you seriously drinking juice in a club?"

Arlene stiffened in fear. She doubted Tara was aware that every vampire within the place was staring in their direction, and from what she could see from their tense postures they were not at all pleased with Tara. Sookie had clearly made a lot of friends in here; it made her both nervous and thoughtful at the same time.

She couldn't help but wonder even in their current situation whether Sookie could arrange for one of the kinder vamps to bed her in order to solve her curiosity.

That's what friends did, right?

"Why are you even here?" Sookie demanded, trying not to become even more flustered than she already was. She knew she must already be an unattractive shade of red. "You are constantly on my case about who I hang around with, how I should stick to the company of humans over vampires."

Tara shrugged. "Arlene wanted to come so I figured I'd tag along."

"You told me you were curious," Arlene frowned in confusion. "That if a vampire could want in Sookie's pants then we would have no trouble getting laid."

Sookies eyes widened, "and what is that meant to mean?"

Glaring at Arlene, Tara shrugged carelessly. It was kind of amusing how wound up this was making her usually level headed friend. She had never seen Sookie so disorganised before, it was kind of making her night. Normally you had to pay for this type of entertainment.

"Yes, I would like to know as well" Pam added.

Rolling her eyes, Tara turned to face an unamused Pam. She was unsurprised to find a blank look on the blondes face, figuring it seemed to be a common occurrence around vampires to be emotionless. She couldn't help but think that if they wanted to blend in more than they should perhaps not constantly look as if they had a stick firmly implanted up their arses 24/7.

"Out of all the humans here, are you telling me that Sookie would be your number on choice?" Tara gestured around the club at both the attractive men in addition to the more beautiful females. There was no way Sookie was the prettiest person in the room; if she thought she was Sookie was kidding herself.

Sookie stared at her so-called friend with a hurt expression. Not only had she had a rough day, having had to save both her brother and Lafayette, the last thing she needed was extra stress from someone who she had considered a friend. Just what was wrong with everyone lately? She was under the impression that a club was meant to be a place where you could let loose, not grow tenser the further the night went on.

She sighed; it was less stressful to read the mind of a drainer than deal with this.

Pam raised a perfectly plugged brow, Sookie flushing when the sarcastic female purred out "I would not hesitate to bed Sookie if she agreed. My master, however, would disapprove wholeheartedly."

Rolling her eyes, Sookie felt her face heat up as she purposely scanned the club, knowing for a fact that if she was interested in a partner of the female persuasion she doubted Pam would allow her out of her sight.

Still, a small part of her found it nice to be so openly desired after being constantly berated for being single and innocent when it came to relationships and sex. Not to mention if she did ever have any urge to be with a women she knew that while Pam could be a sarcastic bitch most of the time, she didn't doubt that Pam would look after her in that retrospect. She trusted Pam.

Still, "thank you, Pam" she murmured.

Tara scoffed, "Master? Isn't that a little Victorian?"

"In case it has skipped your attention, human. I am a vampire" Pam clipped out. "Perhaps you should look at yourself before questioning the interests of someone who is clearly superior to you."

Both Sookie and Tara frowned at that, "huh?"

Pam rolled her eyes. "Within the time frame of twenty minutes you have made more enemies within this club than suits both your health and interest."

Was that a threat?

Tara shifted uncomfortably, "are you threatening me?"

"For someone so cocky," Pam purred, "the fear coming off you in waves is rather delicious."

"Eep!" Yelping, Arlene shuddered. Clearly she had been naïve to think Sookie would ignore the fact they were both here. Still, even under the tense and uncomfortable circumstances Arlene didn't feel any of her guilt lessening. "I am really sorry, Sookie. You…ah…I didn't plan on you finding out."

"Why not?" Sookie was more than a little confused. "Obviously you know I wouldn't have judged your interest."

Arlene winced, knowing her friend was being honest. Sookie wasn't one to judge in any circumstance. "I didn't want to sound like a hypocrite."

"You failed," Sookie replied before wincing. "I'm sorry, but do you really think trying to pick up a random vampire is safe?" she couldn't help but think of her friends kids. Arlene was being reckless.

Jerking back as if slapped Arlene mentally took a few moments to calm herself before she managed to relax, "well, uh, since your here I figured you'd be able to set me up with someone who might be interested" she smiled cheekily, catching sight of the dirty blonde haired vampire in the corner who would just be perfect. She had kept a close eye on him from the moment she had caught sight of him as soon as she had entered the club.

Sookie stared at her friend blankly.

Pam cackled.

Shaking her head as if that would help clear her thoughts Sookie couldn't help but stare at her friend with wide eyes, "sorry, but are you asking me to get one of the vampires here to sleep with you?" She didn't even try and hide her shock.

Arlene blushed, nodding. "The dirty blonde over there if that's possible."

"Really Arlene?" Tara snorted in disgust. "Talk about desperate."

Arlene ignored her, looking at Sookie with a hopeful expression.

"I can't believe you just asked me that," Sookie was beyond taken aback from what she was hearing.

"What?"

"Are you seriously asking me to convince one of them to sleep with you?" she repeated, hoping she had misheard.

"Yes."

God all mighty, Sookie thought as she glanced in Pam's direction, wondering if she was really hearing Arlene wanting her to basically pimp out her friends. From Pam's amused expression it was clear that unfortunately, her hearing was working just fine.

"No."

Arlene blinked. "I'm sorry?"

"I said no."

"Why the fuck not?" To be honest Arlene was a little offended.

Sookie visibly winced at her language. "Perhaps because I respect them too much to ask them something that would not only demean them, but it would be insulting if I was to even consider it for a moment."

Pam doubted Sookie was even aware of how much respect from her kind was gained with her comment, the gazes of the vampires within in the room suddenly becoming slightly more hostile as they ignored the surrounding blood-bags.

Her lips quirked in amusement.

They would already protect Sookie when it came down to it due to her obvious importance to both their sheriff and his maker. The fact she was a telepath was unknown to them for her protection, but Pam didn't doubt that Sookie would have captured their attention even if Eric didn't hold an interest in her. She would bet her entire collection of designer shoes on the fact that they would protect her due to respect as well; a rarity between humans and vampires when companionship was not involved.

"You can be such a bitch, Sookie!" Tara spat, offended on Arlene's behalf, only to startle when the tall vampire from earlier was suddenly towering over them.

Tara flinched, not being able to help but find the Viking attractive to look at, but his good looks did nothing to distract her from just how intimidating the bloke could be without even trying. He had all but narrowed his eyes and she was close to wanting to flee.

"You need to leave."

His tone was flat and uncaring, but his eyes were burning with anger at her insulting Sookie. It made her anger rise. Tara may understand that this was some kind of important vampire she was speaking out to, but she found it hard to give a fuck, especially when they treated Sookie so kindly and then spoke to her as if she was nothing but shit.

At least she knew what she was doing between the sheets.

"I am a paying customer-"she began.

"In my club!" Eric growled out, a low rumble vibrating in his chest. Godric didn't react, his eyes much like his childe instinctively running over Sookies form to check on her safety before he returned his gaze to the gusty human who seemed to find it to be a bright idea to irritate an already on edge vampire.

He sighed. Sookie needed to find herself some better company.

"Tara-"

"Not know, Sookie!" she hissed annoyed. "I only came here for a fuckin' drink; I don't need to be harassed!" Making a move to leave she scowled when Eric made no move to get out of her way. "I want to get another drink."

Silence.

Other than the steady beat of the music and the slight hum of gossip Sookie blushed in shame when she took note of the amount of attention their booth had gathered, the dancing having stopped so the patrons could enjoy the show. She knew it wasn't a very common occurrence for Eric to make an appearance on the floor, especially with him showing anything other than extreme boredom which the patrons seemed to go nuts over due to some strange reason, but the fact he was clearly irritated had kicked their lust up to an even higher level, something she hadn't even thought possible.

She didn't need to be a mind reader to figure out what was going through their heads.

Sookie sighed, "do you really find this amusing, Pam?" she mumbled, catching site of the blonde vampires seemingly amused expression.

Pam flashed her fangs briefly. "Oh darling, as you age you will find nothing amuses a vampire more than seeing their maker so edgy," she cackled.

Sookie stared at her blankly.

Rolling her eyes, "since you turned up Eric has been a lot more entertaining as of late."

Not sure if that was a good thing exactly Sookie choose not to comment. She highly doubted she was the reason for whatever had changed in Eric's personality, but rather it was purely a coincidence. As she turned her attention back to Tara and Eric she sighed, rubbing her face with her hands before looking in Godric's expression pleadingly.

She wasn't in the mood to deal with yet another disaster in the same night. She prayed to god that Godric could somehow manage to defuse the situation before she had her friends' blood on her hands. Tara may have been the one out of line, but once again she couldn't allow herself to see any harm brought to them.

She needed new friends.
