Two months pass: August
(Twins are 9years old)
Yori fell into the mud, the cold, wet soil splashed up into his face.
"Get up!" Katio yelled from the other side of the woods.
Yori wiped his face with the sleeve of his jacket; he sat up and looked at his brother. Katio's dark shadow slowly approached him; the older boy looked down on his brother.
"You weren't even trying then, stand back up" Katio roughly grabbed his siblings arm, pulling him to his feet.
Yori removed his jacket and placed it to the side as his brother walked back to where he had been standing. The pair spent most nights in the woods now; their father had gone on a quest so Katio was responsible for Yori. But the white haired mage hated being alone with his brother, he would always be told to fight, even when he didn't want to. Every day was about training, becoming stronger, well for Katio is was. But for Yori it was just another reason for his older brother to use him as a target for his magic.
The young boy sighed as Katio stood facing him, the blue eyed mage faced his brother, mud smudged into his face. He placed his hands out but before he could call upon his magic, his brother screamed into the night sky.
"Shadow wave!" Katio smirked.
A huge shadow came racing towards Yori, the young boy closed his eyes as he heard the cries of sadness. The shadows pulled the boys clothes, bringing him back down. Yori fell back into the mud, his pants drenched as he sat in the puddle. He began to cry as the shadow's disappeared.
"Ha-ha, that was funny" Katio walked up to his brother.
"No it wasn't" Yori yelled as he wiped his eyes. "I wish you would stop using me as a target for your magic!"
Katio paused in front of Yori and looked down at him, his head tilted back slightly as his lips curled up, letting out a cry of laughter.
"I wasn't using you as a target" he said in a dark voice.
The shadow mage lifted his hand up, causing dark, black strands to come out from his fingers, he moved his hand to the right, the screaming shadows from his palm went racing towards a tree, snapping the old wood in half, the tree fell to the earth.
"If you were my target I would have destroyed you a long time ago, now stand back up!" he ordered.
Yori remained sitting in the wet mud, he didn't want to fight anymore, why couldn't they just train together, using their magic as one.
"Get up" Katio ordered again.
"No, I don't want to fight with you anymore!" Yori yelled from the puddle he sat it, his eyes filled with tears, his pale cheeks turning a deep red.
Katio leaned down and grabbed the collar of Yori's shit, the white haired mage shook as he felt the darkness around his brother. He hated being so close to him and feeling all the shadows sorrows and pain.
"If you don't train with me then how do you expect to get into Kingdom Hall, dad-…"
"Dad doesn't want me to even try for Kingdom Hall; he just wants me to be a target for others that might try and challenge you" Yori cut him off.
Katio slammed his brother into the dirty mud, his fist rested at the side of the white haired mage. Yori shook as Katio's eyes turned black.
"We both have to get into Kingdom Hall, mum would have wanted us to be the best, is doesn't matter what dad says, even if you are a target to others to distract them from me…it's a good plan, no-one would want to truly fight me" the boy stood back up.
The rain began to pour down, causing the mud to soak up the wetness. Yori remained still, he couldn't move, his brothers words had almost paralyzed him. It was true that Katio held a dark magic, so dark it affected his reasoning. It was well known though; no-one should ever attempt to challenge him. Yori looked up as Katio walked off, back to campus with the rest of Wolfclaw.
If anyone tried to challenge his brother they would be defeated, even after the competitor fell to the floor, Katio never stopped. Yori hated to see his brother fight; there was no mercy in his brother's eyes. That's why it was so easy for him to hurt Kiyoshi, the blue haired wizard never even put up a fight against his brother.
Yori sighed; he didn't want to think anymore. He needed to escape from this world. He stood up and began walking the opposite way to his brother. Whenever his heart felt heavy or when his thoughts were muddled, he would come here; in this place he found peace and harmony.
The spikey haired mage peeked behind the tree and looked at the large cottage, Kiyoshi's home.
Yori slowly approached the family home; he always came here whenever he felt lonely. He knew if his brother found out he would be punished badly but that never stopped him from risking a quick visit. He grabbed a garden chair and peered into the kitchen window. Everyone was in the living room; he wiped the window and pressed his face against the cold glass. He saw Jellal sitting on the sofa with Ayoko reading a story to him; well at least that's what he thought she was doing. The book she was holding looked really expensive, it was big and looked as though it had a cover made from gold. He sighed as he searched for Erza. That was the only reason he ever came here, to see her.
The chair wobbled causing him to fall back on to the patio, the kitchen light switched on and the sound of Erza's voice came drifting through the open widow. Yori scrabbled to the side, staying ducked down. He listened to her voice as she told her children it was time for bed.
He bit down on his lip as he heard Kiyoshi moaning about going to bed early, Erza had offered to read him a story but he had refused. Yori punched the concrete wall, causing his fist to bleed. Erza had heard the bang and called Jellal to go and check it out.
Within minutes the blue haired mage was outside on the patio, looking around.
"There's no one here, it's safe" Jellal called as he walked back inside to the warmth, slowly closing the door behind him.
Yori sat under the tree watching, his heart filled with hatred. Why did Kiyoshi have a mother and he didn't? Does he not understand how precious she is? Yori's eyes filled with salty tears as he felt envious of Kiyoshi, he didn't care about being the strongest mage or being the cover for his brother's darkness, he just wanted his mum back.
