Chapter Twenty-Five
Unpleasant Announcements

Felicia, Sookie found, had a wicked sense of humour after she explained in depth the reason for Longshaw's death. Due to the fact that he had unsuccessfully attempted to rip out Sookie's throat, it had been another vampire that had killed Longshaw in self-defence. It turned out that Pam had warned Felicia that she had a thing about killing off the Fangtasia bartenders, something the female vampire had clearly taken quite seriously.

Sookie had wanted to kill Pam.

It was hard enough for her to make friends as it was without Pam making everyone think she was some kind of killing machine who targeted vampires. She had enough disgust for people who held such contempt and disgust towards vampires, how they believed that just because they were different it mean that they were a lower species.

Thankfully, Felicia seemed to understand that unless she had any plans to attempt to kill her, Eric wasn't about to stake her and neither was Bill, considering he was out of the picture. It shouldn't have been amusing to Sookie when Felicia quickly assured her that she had no such intentions, but her answering smile couldn't be helped.

Shaking her head, Sookie chewed the corner of her mouth as she perched on the edge of a bar stool while she chatted with Felicia about how she was finding the job so far. It was a stray thought that had her shamefully ignoring their conversation in order to concentrate on the distinctively female voice.

Shit…feels so good…need a fix…fuck…

Frowning, Sookie snapped her head around to scan the club, shifting through the random thoughts as quickly as possible before she finally located the young girl, no older than twenty-one, practically straddling the dirty blonde vampire Arlene had attempted to try and get her to agree to sleep with her.

She still cringed at the memory.

Gunna feel so good…blood thick…want…more…

Elijah, Sookie had to admit, was one of the most polite and genuinely kind vampires she had come across – before Godric that was. She had spoken to him frequently, enjoying his company very much. From what she knew he preferred small blonde women, and while he had showed no interest in her she had seen many of his bed companions for the night leave with him.

He was charmingly at ease with his polite self, not being the type of vampire who never showed emotion unless that emotion was anger. It was a refreshing change. From what she had read from his companions' minds unintentionally, he treated them very well.

The fact that this girl was attempting to take advantage of that kind nature disgusted her. It made her sick to her stomach that some people could treat others in such a selfish and degrading way. Did neither their parents nor teachers teach them any manners or self-respect?

Though looking at the young girl she could see why Elijah held interest in her. Dressed slightly more modest than the rest of the dancers there, she didn't doubt that it was one of the reasons that had drawn the vampire towards her. It gave the impression that the young blonde had self-respect, if nothing else.

She frowned.

While she didn't feel that it was her place to involve herself in another's relationship, she knew she wouldn't feel right just letting Elijah walk out with a girl who could only be after him for his blood. It wouldn't sit well on her conscience, especially since she was here to look out for anything shifty after all.

She was on duty after all.

She turned back to Felicia. "I'm sorry, but I just need to have a word with Eric."

Not asking questions, Felicia gave a curt nod of her head before turning to serve three girls who Sookie didn't need her gift to work out that they were underage. Even if they had extremely good fake ID's their victorious thoughts and concerns over being caught were enough to confirm her suspicions.

Adding it to her list of things to inform Eric about, she took once final glance in Elijah's direction before looking towards centre stage where Eric's frankly ridiculous throne sat perched at the back of the room. She sighed, the one-time she needed him he wasn't there.

Where was he?

"Looking for someone, älskling?"

Sookie startled, no matter how soft the question had been spoken. She couldn't help but smile wide when she caught sight of Godric's charming expression. "Godric!" throwing her arms around his neck for a quick hug she knew must have looked severely out of place in the middle of a dance floor where everyone was practically have sex through clothes, and yet here she was doing something so innocent as hugging.

She cringed at the thought.

Pulling away her grin remained on her features, "where did you go off to?"

"I was speaking to Eric," he steered her back towards the bar. "And you do not have a drink I see. Is Felicia not looking after you?"

Sookie rolled her eyes. "I like her, and I don't need looking after, Godric" she sighed. "They shouldn't have to keep an eye on my drink level, not when I am very capable of getting my own drink. I am a grown woman who doesn't need to be watched over every second," she huffed.

Godric looked down at her with obvious amusement. "Humour me," his lips quirked. "Now, did I just see you looking for Eric?"

"Oh!" that was what she was doing. "I got a bad vibe from the girl dancing with Elijah," she glanced in their direction, looking back to Godric before she noticed the way Elijah had stiffened. "And those girls over there," she pointed to the three girls in dark purple standing at the bar, "are barely eighteen."

Godric's lips pursed in disapproval. It took a mere look in Chow's direction before he was confronting the girls and leading the terrified humans towards the exit of the club with an irritated expression. The fact he had missed them on door duty pissed him off enough that he had to restrain himself from dragging them by the neck.

"Why do you not like the girl dancing with Elijah, little one?"

"I heard her talking about getting a fix," she nibbled her bottom lip, "but I suppose that could mean, uh, sex right?"

Godric stared at her blankly; a brow raised.

Sookie frowned, "doubtful?"

"She smells very faintly of V," Godric murmured a few seconds later. It hadn't occurred to her that he had been smelling the girl across the room when he had gone still for a few moments.

"You can smell that?" she asked bewildered.

Lips quirked, "my age only allows me such if I concentrate closely enough to pick up on very distant traces. I, however, do not make a habit of going around scenting people."

Sookie grinned, the mental image amusing to say the least. "I suppose not. So," she glanced in Elijah's direction who seemed to be having an intense conversation with the blonde. "Should I tell him?"

"He knows, dear."

Sookie could honestly say she felt like crap when she caught sight of Elijah's drastic change of attitude towards the girl. Instead of being charming and flirtatious it was as clear as day that the girl was getting a scolding, his eyes dark with barely restrained anger while the woman stared at him with an expression of both fear and confusion.

"Should I have said anything?"

Not wishing to discourage her, Godric gently wrapped his fingers around her wrist. "It may be beneficial to pay her more attention once Elijah has scolded her to his satisfaction. At least it will help to either confirm or deny whether she is connected to the dealers we have scalping the area for."

Sookie nodded at that, though the next few hours saw to the woman lazily scanning the room for what Sookie figured was another vampire. Sookie didn't doubt she would have gotten some interest had the vampires present not been aware of how Elijah had called her out on why she was in Fangtasia in the first place.

Sookie shook her head in disgust.

There wasn't a vampire in the room who would be willing to ever bed the blonde now. Hopefully it would be for the best.

The next few hours didn't cause any alarm from the female, it being clear from a brief thought now and again that all the girl was interested in was hoping to persuade a vampire to give her a drop or two of their blood. The few human males who had drifted towards her direction had instantly been shunned away, enough so that it was made even more aware that it wasn't just sex she had been after. Eric was far from pleased after Godric had filled him in on the situation after he had made an appearance, but considering Sookie couldn't identify anything that indicated that the woman had any intentions to forcibly target a vampire it was clear she was simply another addict who was new to the drug and now a dealer.

It was pathetic, Sookie couldn't help but think, how low some people would stoop instead of confronting the problems in their lives. It didn't help that it only reminded her of the shit her brother had found himself in, not to mention Lafayette.

It wasn't until she had been there for more than a few hours that Godric asked her if she was hungry, the fact she had come straight from wok meaning she hadn't had time to eat. She had tried to refuse out of politeness but she couldn't help her stomach as it rumbled in hunger.

The next thing she knew take-out was sitting in front of her as Godric led her to Eric's office.

"This wasn't necessary, Godric" she took in the takeaway box. She wasn't surprised when Godric waved her off dismissively, stating concerns about her health before making it clear that whether she accepted it or not he wasn't about to leave until she had at least consumed some of it.

"So," she began as she took a small mouthful. "Did you know Felicia before Eric hired her?"

Godric nodded. "She is relatively young for a vampire, not much older than Pamela. I recall her maker to be a strict but fair man who genuinely cares for her well-being. She disliked her previously sheriff which is no surprise."

"Really? Why?"

"Peter Threadgill unlike Eric demands sex and submission from his followers. For some it does not create tension or resentment if said vampire views sex as simply an act which is necessary where no emotional attachment is made. They would not see it as intimate in how you would view it, however, for those such as Felicia who prides herself in being treated with respect in addition to preferring the company of a female rather than a male it leads them to seek location elsewhere."

Sookie looked at Godric with an expression full of horror and shock. "Can a sheriff do that, demand sex?"

Godric almost smiled at her naivety. "A sheriff is a follower of either a king or a queen, ruling over an area however them deem necessary unless their superior intervenes or demotes them of their position which is a rarity in itself. When Felicia's sheriff demanded sex of her in exchange for protection it is considered unethical yes, but it would put said vampire in a difficult position if they were to refuse. It is a shameful aspect of our kind, one neither Eric nor I approve of."

"I figured," Sookie told herself.

Godric looked at her with interest, "would you like to explain, little one?"

Shrugging, "Eric can be a crude bastard when it comes to women, but I would never place him to be the type of man who would force himself on a female without her consent. He seems like the type of person who likes his partner to be involved in what they're doing."

Godric grinned; fangs peaking down from his top set of teeth as he wondered just how much of Sookie's time had been used to consider his childe's sex habits. He wasn't annoyed, not in the slightest. In fact he was pleased at what was running through her head, it making it all the more possible that she would accept an intimate relationship with the two of them.

Yes, it pleased him very much.

"You are correct, little one. Eric has always enjoyed the responses he draws from his companions, whether female or male."

Sookie flushed in pleasure at the reminder that she had seen both maker and childe kiss in front of her, open mouthed with fang and tongue. She hated to admit that she had found it extremely arousing to experience such intimacy between the two of them.

She still thought about it at night when she was alone between her sheets.

Shifting in her seat she tried not to draw attention to her reaction, but thankfully Godric didn't seem to comment. She wasn't innocent enough not to think he was very much aware of her reaction to his comment and her memory, but at least he was gentleman enough not to tease her about it in order to embarrass her.

She doubted either Pam or Eric would have been so kind.
