Unwanted Beaming
It was entirely an accident but it unfortunately resulted in half the bridge having a panic attack.
It had happened because Pavel had been working on a small emergency transporter. The idea behind it was that it would be a small device that could carried by each member of an away team, in an emergency the device could be activated and it would transport its user straight to the ship without having to lock on with the main transporter. Pavel had been working on a small experimental model of this device when a call came in from the bridge asking him up to his post, he had responded and unconsciously pocketed the device and headed to the bridge.
When he got there he found that the back-up navigator had taken ill and there was a very apologetic Jim requesting that he do some extra shifts, Pavel agreed and settled down at his station completely forgetting about the device in his pocket. He had been working for about half an hour when he unintentionally shifted in just the right way to activate the emergency transporter in his pocket, he it activate and turned to warn Jim but he was to late and Pavel vanished from the bridge.
He re-materialised inside a cupboard and it took a bit of effort to fight his way out of it. It took a short while for him to work out where he was but he realised that he was in one of the corridors in the connecting section between the saucer and engineering hull. Glad that the incomplete transporter hadn't dumped him in space or another planet Pavel quickly ran to the bridge to explain to the no doubt shocked crew what had happened.
When he got there he found the place in an uproar, it seemed that as soon as he vanished Jim had immediately set his crew on a full scale scan and search of nearby systems for any sort of hostile ship or station. McCoy and Scotty had quickly heard about what had happened and were already on the bridge in a serious tactical discussion with Jim and Spock. They were actually about to come down on a nearby and perfectly innocent cargo ship like a ton of bricks and accuse them of kidnapping when Pavel hurried in.
There was a stunned silence as he entered as everyone gaped at the safe, unharmed and definitely not kidnapped teen until Jim finally almost shouted, "Pavel, what the hell happened!"
It took a bit of explaining and there was embarrassment on both sides, especially when they realised that no-one had thought to check if Pavel was still on the Enterprise. It was agreed that the whole thing was a accident but Pavel still had to go through the whole 'you should be more careful with your projects' and 'what if you'd been beamed into space' and the 'do know how worried we were' lecture from five different people. It was also decided that any projects the teen was working on had to be under the guidance of Spock or Scotty to prevent a repeat of the incident.
It took a while but soon everyone settled back to their duties and the incident was added to the growing list of funny misadventures of the Enterprise.
