Chapter Forty
(Deceptive Makers)
Surprisingly Sookie enjoyed Naomi's company, watching in amusement as she shifted awkwardly at the looks they were on the receiving end of as the rest of the patrons who couldn't seem to grasp the fact that another vampire was off the market. Sookie couldn't help but laugh at some of the thoughts, each one stranger than the next.
Jealously was a bitter bitch.
It wasn't until Elijah made a polite comment about reservations that Sookie and Godric were once again left alone in the booth, quietly chatting about nothing in general until Godric suddenly closed his eyes before rising from his seat.
"I shall be back in a few minutes, Älskling. Keep within the bar, yes?"
Nodding, she watched as Godric left. Less than ten minutes must have gone by when Sookie was surprised at the appearance of Jessica suddenly sitting in front of her. Almost immediately Chow had her by her upper arm, fangs bared, and ready to remove her at once.
"No! Wait, I know her!" Sookie tried to quickly defuse the situation, taking note of Jessica's suddenly frazzled expression. Sookie didn't blame her; Chow didn't look friendly in the slightest when he was furious. "It's ok, Chow."
"Are you sure, Sookie?"
She nodded hastily, seeing Chow murmur something too low for her human ears to pick up on but whatever it was had Jessica nodding quickly, eyes wide and face serious. Watching as Chow headed back to the bar Sookie turned her attention towards Jessica.
"Jessica…" Sookie had to admit she was a little annoyed Jessica had managed to get inside Fangtasia, and without a maker by the looks of it. There were rules.
Jessica rolled her eyes, "I'm a vampire."
Still, Sookie didn't really feel comfortable having her in such a place when she was as young as she was, vampire or not. She clearly remembered Jessica practically begging to take her before when they had been on a shift together, and it was clear by her look of awe that she hadn't set foot inside Fangtasia until now.
"Did Pam let you in?"
Jessica shrugged. "The scary blonde lesbian vamp?"
Sookie nodded.
"Yep. Told me that I needed to find Eric straight away or I was going to be in deep shit."
It certainly sounded like Pam. "He's in his office."
Jessica pouted. "Can't I stick around with you for a bit? Maybe dance, find some willing donor" she eyed the crowd hungrily. "Not to mention you smell real good."
Sookie winced at her comment, "You can't say stuff like that 'round here, Jessica."
"Why not?"
"Because Eric's vampires don't have any loyalty towards you, you need to think before you speak."
Jessica rolled her eyes, her age coming through. "All I did was comment on your blood, Sookie. You know I'm not goin' to rip your throat out-"
Sookie winced the moment the word passed her lips, all of a sudden several vampires surrounding the booth, none of which looking happy. Squealing, Jessica shoved herself as far as she could in the booth, confidence non-existent as Chows lips curved up in a silent snarl as a low growl escaped his lips.
Jesus!
"What is going on here!" Eric's voice boomed over the crowd, the chatter dying out instantly as every single patron turned to stare. Sookie blushed, hating the fact this was causing a scene. She should have stayed in Eric's office.
"Eric, calm down" she reached out to touch his arm. "Jessica here was just about to apologise for causing a scene, weren't you Jessica?" she stared pointedly at the shaking teenager who immediately started nodding.
"Pam said to come find you," Jessica rushed out.
Eric simply raised a brow, "Get up and in my office, now!"
Watching Jessica flash out of sight Sookie sighed, "does the age restriction not apply to vampires?" she asked, embarrassed as the crowd of vampires took note the situation was under control before flashing back to what they were doing previously.
Their support had been unexpected, but it meant a lot.
"Pam should not have allowed such a newly turned vampire within the premises, it isn't safe. She is less than a year old."
"Do you know who her maker is?"
Grabbing her hand Eric led her towards his office, nodding at each of his guard respectfully before his hand moved to her lower back, gently steering her. "She hasn't filled out her paperwork to reside in my area, or more importantly her maker hasn't."
Eric wasn't pleased in the slightest.
"Her lack of documentation is a problem."
Sookie frowned in confusion, "what? Like a passport?"
"When we became known to the human population one of the agreements was that newly turned vampires were to be accounted for. Not every maker follows protocol, however, if they wish to recede in my area it is necessary."
"So what are you going to do?"
Opening his office door Eric narrowed his eyes at the baby vampire sitting perched on the edge of his desk, disrespect leaking from her causal position. Sookie watched as Jessica was quick to stand up, bowing her head respectfully all the while fidgeting.
"Take a seat, lover" Eric gestured her to the couch.
Watching him suspiciously Sookie for once did as she was told, perching on the edge of the leather sofa as she watched Eric move towards his desk, his large form impressive to say the least. Sookie chewed her bottom lip, pulling it between her teeth as memories of the night before flooded her mind before she could stop them.
She could still remember the way his lips pressed against hers, his mouth on her breast while Godric's fingers expertly worked her womanhood through her panties.
It was highly doubtful that would be the last time it happened.
After getting a taste of how intimate and pleasurable being with a man could be, Sookie couldn't help but wonder just how better it would get the more she allowed them to play with her. She hadn't felt embarrassed when they had ravished her, only sexy, confident and content.
Despite the delicious flush coating his lovers cheeks, since Eric had been made aware of the situation he knew it unfortunately took priority for the time being. Stapling his fingers on the desk he stared at the redheaded vampire standing in front of him, his eyes raking over her in disgust as he took note of how pathetic she looked, shifting nervously and ringing her hands in front of her.
She reeked of being new.
"I have not received any paperwork regarding your application to reside in my area."
Jessica visibly jumped making Sookie want to run over and hug her. She was a child for goodness sake! Despite the maternal side wanting to come out Sookie couldn't help but be curious about why her maker wouldn't have submitted the paperwork, let alone allow Jessica to enter a club with sex and blood tempting her in every direction.
"I-I was t-told I didn't have t-to straight a-away."
"Who told you that?"
Jessica chewed her bottom lip, "my maker. He said that I could stay for a while until he got everything sorted out, that I wasn't doing anything wrong."
Eric quirked a brow at that. "Is your maker currently residing in my area?"
Jessica shrugged.
Eric wanted to smack her, probably would have had her by the throat had Sookie not been present in his office. The fact that not only did she seem to have no idea of how to act in his presence, but her stupid as fuck maker clearly was either foolish or had a complete disregard for the rules pissed him off. It was illegal to allow a vampire under the age of three to roam around on their own, it was dangerous and frankly felt like a spit in the face.
Godric had been strict as his maker, but never was Eric left to his own devices.
Pulling out the paperwork Eric decided to get as many details he could from the baby vamp, he had enough sources that tracking down her maker would take no more effort than a simple phone call.
"Name?"
"Jessica Hamby."
"Date of birth?"
"Urm…1991."
"Parents names?"
Jessica frowned. "Why do you need to know that?" An annoyed looked from Eric had her quickly answering. She may not have been in Bon Temps for long but she had heard a lot about the sheriff of the area she was staying in, none of which was positive. He was the last person she wanted to piss off. "My father is Jordan Hamby, and my mother is Annabeth Hamby."
"Siblings?"
"I have a little sister, her names Eden."
"Maker?"
Jessica did purse her lips at that. The one thing Bill had ordered her to was not reveal that he had turned her, or been forced to thanks to that bitch Sophie-Ann. She hadn't known what a makers order could do until it became apparent that she couldn't physically answer the question even if she wanted to.
Eric looked up at her silence, "well?"
"I-I can't," she stuttered, suddenly terrified that she would be punished for something she had no control over. "He told me not to."
Leaning back Eric regarded her with a sudden interest. It would be a strange request for a maker to order such a secret to their childe, one that raised not only his curiosity but alarm bells. The girl had made a mistake coming here tonight.
"What was his order?" There were ways to get around a makers order. If a question was worded just right.
"That I couldn't reveal who turned me," Jessica admitted. "I can't help it."
"Why would somebody do that?" Sookie spoke out, confused.
"Her maker has something to hide." Eric considered the possibilities before carrying on with his questions. "Who turned your maker?"
Jessica shrugged, "some woman I think. He never mentioned it, well not really."
"Was your turning willing?"
Eric's guess that it wasn't was confirmed when Jessica shook her head. Great, so not only did this maker turn her unwillingly, but he had practically deserted her, restricted her revealing his name despite it being a very dangerous demand, and allowed her into his area where she could possibly wreak havoc.
He was furious.
"Where were you turned?"
Jessica shrugged again. "I don't know. I woke up buried in the soil and he had me shoved in a car before I could understand what was happening. He explained it on the way to some massive house I think he owned."
"He sounds horrible!" Sookie frowned.
"He never hit me or anything, but I don't think he wanted to turn me. He kept ranting on about mainstreaming whatever that is, and orders."
Both Sookie and Eric paused at that. Could it simply be a coincidence?
"What did he look like?" Sookie asked quietly.
"Brown hair, talked really old fashioned, good with a computer I think." Jessica thought about Bill, struggling to find the right words to describe him. "Shorter than you," she looked to her sheriff, "I think he fought in the Civil War?"
Sookie gasped, her hand over her mouth as she snapped her head towards Eric who did not look pleased in the slightest. He was in front of Jessica in a second, fangs bared and fists clenched and he fought the urge to slam her into a wall. Perhaps he should have left Sookie in the bar.
"Bill Compton?"
Jessica's eyes widened, the tension in the room impossible to ignore. Great, with her luck her maker was someone who Eric wanted to rip to pieces. Suddenly she was terrified that he would take his anger out on her. It wasn't as if she had chosen this, chosen Bill to turn her. She hated him!
"How'd you know that?"
"He's my ex-boyfriend," Sookie murmured. "When was the last time you saw him?"
"A week or two ago," she admitted. "He told me to get a job at Merlotte's, be friendly and keep my head down. I did ask about whether I was allowed to be on my own, he said it was fine, that I had great control."
She had felt pride at the comment even without liking Bill all that much.
"He has broken many rules. Call him!" Eric tossed her a phone. "Don't mention having met me and I may allow you to walk about of here alive."
"Eric!"
"He turned a child, Sookie; do you really wish to defend him over this?" Eric demanded.
Sookie scowled. "I don't approve of him doing this to Jessica, but it isn't her fault she has a shitty maker. You can take her under your wing, right?"
"It doesn't work like that, Sookie."
"Why not?" she demanded.
"Because I don't want to be responsible for her. If I wanted another Childe other than Pamela I would have turned one myself. The best I can do is find her a mentor of some kind or she will have to leave."
"B-but, my maker-"
Eric snapped his fangs at a startled Jessica. "Your maker is piece of shit that-" Eric paused, realising that whatever he spoke in her presence no amount of threats would be able to stop Jessica spouting every word off to Compton if he ordered her too. She was much too young to even think about fighting such a powerful order, she wouldn't be able to keep her mouth shut. "Leave. If Compton calls you I want you to say something. The only way you will come out of this is if you co-operate."
"Eric! She may have loyalties to Bill!"
Jessica snorted at that, "I hate him."
Sookie pursed her lips at that. Well that shut her up.
"Do not come here tomorrow, we have visitors."
With a nod Jessica took Eric's wave of dismissal seriously, flashing out of the room leaving both Eric and Sookie sitting in silence until she broke it.
"What do you think he's playing at, Eric?"
Eric moved to take her into his arms, savouring the fact that she allowed him to do so without complaint. It was a relief she seemingly had no regrets about the night before. "I believe he is in league with Sophie-Ann, that this is all an elaborate rouse conducted to get you."
"I really don't think my telepathy is worth all of this," Sookie rolled her eyes. It seemed like a lot of manipulation, spying and effort when the prize was apparently her.
Eric gently smacked her on the behind as punishment for degrading herself, Sookie yelping. His lips quirked. "You can get inside of humans heads, älskare. You lack of ability to be glamoured makes you all the more valuable to gaining the trust of a vampire, not to mention you are beautiful, pure at heart, and mine."
Sookie blushed at that. He really did make her feel like a queen.
Regrettably not my best work, but hopefully you enjoyed it.
