"Welcome back ladies and gentlemen" Chapati started, smiling as he spoke "Today's theme is forest night, we have placed trees and latens around the arena and of course this event is happening during the night"
"This is so cool!" Jason screeched "Never did I think this would happen, a battle in the dark of the night" Jason spun around with hearts wavering around his head.
"Haha, same here" Yajima spoke up "There's never been quite an event like this before"
"Well we wanted to make the last three battles as entertaining as possible" Chapati smiled "So tonight will be history in the making, both sets of wizards are waiting patiently to begin, the moon is high in the sky and the stars are in full view, it is quite a lovely night"
"It most certainly is" Yajima pulled at his puffy white coat "Though a little on the cold side" he laughed
"I don't care how cold it is, this is going to be so cooollllll" Jason screeched and clenched his hands together
The crowd had taken to their seats, most were wearing their woolly hats and mittens. Once more they were waving their flags and cheering for the twins below who stood opposite from one another.
Yesterdays defeat was still present on Kiyoshi and Ayoko's mind, the two siblings stood side by side with their backs together. Katio and Yori were once again meters apart from one another, nothing had changed.
Chapati continued to talk to the crowd, causing them to scream out more for their favourite guild. Ayoko and Kiyoshi ignored all the noise around them as they held one another's hand. Katio glared at them while Yori had his head turned away, he looked less confident that yesterday which seemed a little strange.
"Are you sure this will work...?" Ayoko asked her brother
"It has to, he has the right to know the truth and the only way he will ever know is if I show it to him" Kiyoshi replied, his voice determined and strong.
"You're right, I just hope its enough to pull him away from the path of darkness..."
"That will be up to him but I am sure after tonight everything in the Wolfclaw guild will change"
"The timer will be started and just like before it will be twenty minutes" Chapati explained as the large digital clock appeared above the centre of the arena.
"Do you remember the plan?" Kiyoshi asked
"Yes" Ayoko replied, she closed her eyes and took a breath, squeezing her baby brothers hand "Just be careful..."
"You to..." he replied
"Begin!" Chapati shouted
Ayoko and Kiyoshi remained side by side, still together with their eyes closed. Katio raised his eyebrow, he spun around and glared at his brother.
"What are you waiting for? Get him!" he ordered
Yori turned and lifted his head, he stuttered an apology to his brother and slowly stepped forward. Katio didn't move from where he stood as he watched his brothers movement.
"Don't mess it up this time" he growled
Yori nodded his head and promised he would keep Kiyoshi away from his brother, Katio had no interest in fighting the blue haired wizard. His only interest was to destroy Ayoko, to crush her dreams and hopes.
Yori lifted his hand, a small green light began to glow from his feet. He stared directly at Kiyoshi, ignoring Ayoko's presence. He took a breath and assured himself this was the right thing to do, Kiyoshi was the weaker of the two twins, Yori could take him on with out really trying, he was sure of it.
"It seems Kiyoshi and Ayoko are not intending to do anything" Chapati commented "Yori is making a direct attack on them, why are they not moving?"
"Patients, I'm sure all will come to light soon" Yajima smiled
"Abura" Yori called out
The light around the boy grew brighter, a small figure began to form beside him. It was a young infant boy, his skin was as pale as the winters crisp snow. His eyes were small and dark. His body was surrounded by small hot, red flames.
"W-What is that?" Chapati asked, stuttering
The young boy looked up to his master, waiting patiently for instructions. Katio turned his head away from his brother, laying them back onto Ayoko who still remained side by side with her brother. Why were they not moving? He wondered, his brow creasing.
"Go Abura" Yori ordered
The young boy smiled mischievous, his snake like tongue slivered out from his mouth before he turned and floated around to the side of the walls where the lantern's hung. The audience watched in ore as the child began sucking the burning oil inside the paper lamps, extinguishing them as he lapped up the hot liquid with his long, slivering tongue.
"His putting out the lamps" Chapati stood from his seat "We'll be submerged into darkness!" he panicked
Quickly Abura raced around the whole arena, taking away all the light. His flaming body the only glow in the centre of the arena, Katio's lips curled in to a small smile. Pleased now they were in the place he knew best, the dark.
Abura returned back to his masters side, the young wizard thanked his spirit before retuning it back to its own world.
"W-What was that thing?" Jason asked as he squinted down at the twins, it was hopeless though the whole arena was submerged in darkness.
"It was a mythical being" Yajima replied, seeming not to bothered that he couldn't see the match below
"Mythical?" Jason questioned "What does that mean?"
"Yori possess the magic of mythical creatures, things such as mermaids and trolls. But it seems that he can call upon any mythical creature from any time period and culture" Yajima explained
"So which is that flame eating boy from?"
"Abura is from Japanese mythology, Abura was once a living human but when he died he became a flame, that is why he ate the oil, flames need oil to burn"
"He ate the oil?! He a...?" Jason fainted, he had never seen such a thing before, it was all rather strange
"It is not all that strange Jason, Yori is after all a Wolfclaw wizard" the old man laughed
Now in darkness Katio began to walk towards Ayoko, Yori followed behind him. His green light glowing around his tall figure, his white hair blew in the cold wind. He could feel his hands shaking, he shook away his fear. He could not let the Wolfclaw guild down again, his father was already so mad at him. Yesterday he had shamed the wolves, he had just been a problem, a nuisance for his brother, Katio. Today would be different though, today he would finally make his father proud of him, he was sure of it. All he had to do was hold back Ayoko and defeat Kiyoshi, simple.
"What's up fairies, scared?" Katio shot the two a dark, cold grin
Still the twins remained motionless, Katio stopped just in front of them. Dark strands began forming at the tips of his fingers. Yori's green light began to sparkle, his arms relaxed at his side, his palms faced forward. Another figure began to form beside him, this time it was much taller and took the form of a women.
"Come on Fairy Tail, face me!" Katio spat, his dark strands grew taller
Still the audience struggled to see what was happening, Chapati quickly began to organize a way of seeing the battle below.
Yori went to speak the spirit women's name when suddenly Kiyoshi opened his eyes, the bluenette's tattoo shown brightly. Yori closed his mouth, his hands balled into small fist as he took a step back. Something about the way Kiyoshi was looking at him scared him, he felt it deep within him, his terrified child self. Yori's eyes grew wide, he took another step back. Light filled the arena, floating candles around the stadium lit up the battlefield, the crowd cheered. Kiyoshi gave chase, Yori spun around and ran away from the Fairy Tail wizard.
"No!" Yori screamed
Katio hissed as the two wizards sped past him, he ignored them and placed his attention on Ayoko. Who now had her eyes open and was facing him. Her tattoo was also glowing brightly, brighter than it had ever been before.
"Determined are we?" Katio grinned
Ayoko smiled back at the dark wizard, she was more than determined. Tonight she would not fail, for this was the night Yori would find out the truth about his past. Everything had to go to plan, she was not going to fault, not once.
"You bet!" Ayoko turned and raced into the woods
Katio stood straight, his brow creasing. He hissed and chased after the purple haired wizard, demanding her to face him.
"If you're so determined, why are you running?!"
Ayoko skidded to a stop, the dirt under her boot piling up on one side. She turned her head to face Katio, her long purple hair swayed in the wind.
"So we can be alone" she told him
"No, no! Stay away!" Yori screamed
Katio turned his head, seeing his brother racing away from Kiyoshi. He turned back to Ayoko, his eyes narrowed.
"Good try but I don't really care what happens to him"
"Oh really?" Ayoko tilted her head "Are you sure about that?"
"Certain" Katio smirked
"Then you wouldn't care if Yori found out about his past, about what really happened to your mother"
"What?! What the hell are you talking about?"
"Tonight Kiyoshi is going to show your brother what happened that night with your mother"
"Ha, nice try but there is no way a wizard like Kiyoshi can do that! And beside only me and my dad know about that"
"Your laugh sounds scared"
"I am not scared, I'm not afraid of anything!"
"Kiyoshi's magic comes from the stars"
"So, how is that going to help bring back past memories!"
"Each star is connected to a person, everyone has one, even you Katio. Kiyoshi has seen what happened to your mother and what your father has put you through, tonight he is going to show Yori all your memories with the help of the stars"
"That's bullshit!" Katio spat
"Fine don't believe me but after tonight everything will be different, Yori will know the truth"
Katio slowly turned his head, Yori had been corned and was calling upon his spirits to help him. Kiyoshi did not waver, he headed straight towards Yori, his pace was slow and steady.
"Fuck!" Katio hissed and spun around and raced towards his brother
"No!" Ayoko cried, her hand lifted and a shooting bright light sped past Katio
She had called upon Arteries, the blonde haired, hooded women stood a small distance away from Katio. She rose her bow, the ravens eyes grew wide as the God launched an arrow towards him. Katio ducked out of the way, he spun using his legs to face Ayoko and her God who was now stood beside her.
"You bitch!" he cursed "You planned this!"
"You've always wanted to battle me without interruption"
Katio got to his feet and dusted his hands, his head lowered and dark smoke began to form at his feet. Artemis reloaded her bow with six arrows, Ayoko stepped aside as the ground began to shake from Katio's dark magic.
"I'm going to destroy you, Ayoko Fernaders!"
"Come at me" Ayoko provoked the raven
Katio growled as he pushed his hand forward, blasting his darkness towards the purpled haired wizard and her God. Ayoko did not waver, she had light right beside her, she could not get lost in Katio's magic so long as she had her God.
"Missed me" Ayoko smiled as the dusty, dark clouds passed her
Artemis stretched her bow back and shot the six arrows straight towards Katio, the raven haired boy dived to his right, one arrow slashed straight past his upper arm, tearing his shirt and skin. He hissed in annoyance rather than pain, pain he could deal with.
He quickly got back to his feet and walked towards Ayoko and her God, the ground under him piercing as he guided one hand above it.
"You've pissed me off!" he growled
"Stay back!" Yori warned as he launched three human beings towards Kiyoshi
The blue haired wizard did not stop his approach, Yori backed further into the wall behind him as the three humans began to change into black furred werewolf.
Once the beings had changed he ordered them to attack Kiyoshi, as they raced towards the Fairy Tail wizard, Yori took his chance and raced off, heading for the woods his brother and Ayoko had descended into.
But Kiyoshi would not allow him to go that far, the blue haired boy pierced the wolves bodies with ice rocks which fell from the sky, he needed to reserve his power so his attacks were as weak as possible. Ice rocks were easier than an ice wall or lightning.
"Stop running" Kiyoshi called to Yori
Yori span around just as he got to the entrance of the woods, his breathing was hitched and his legs weak. He trembled from fear, he wasn't sure why he was so afraid, he just knew he was scared.
"Leave me alone" Yori cried and placed his hand up
Once more he went to call upon his spirit women, Mu-onna but again he could not do it. Why, why could he not do it? He closed his eyes and concentrated hard, his green light was fading but still he tried.
Kiyoshi stepped closer and took a hold of Yori's hand, Yori's eyes shot open and he began puling away from Kiyoshi.
"Let go, let go of me!" he tugged to get free but Kiyoshi's hold was strong
Since when did Kiyoshi get so strong? Yori scrambled forward only to fall backwards. He looked up to Kiyoshi, he yanked at his hand, freeing it he went to crawl away. Kiyoshi dived on top of him and held him around the waist, still Yori resisted.
He kicked and screamed, he thumped and wriggled around but Kiyoshi would not let go. Tears had filled Yori's light blue eyes, his green light no longer glowing, he had lost his strength.
"Please, please let me go" he begged and lowered his head
Kiyoshi rested his head on Yori's shoulder, his arm rested around the boy's waist, he took a hold of Yori's hand.
"I can't" Kiyoshi whispered "I need to show you something..."
"I don't want to see" Yori shook his head "I'm scared" he confessed
"It's ok, its ok to be scared Yori" Kiyoshi told him
Yori turned his head but did not lift it, his watery blue eyes met the others. He had never been told it was ok to be afraid...ever. Wolf's are not meant to fear anything, they're suppose to be strong and brave, something Yori knew he wasn't.
"I'll be with you all the way" Kiyoshi told him with a small, soft smile
Yori accepted this as he held tightly to Kiyoshi's hand, the blue haired wizard lifted his free hand and brushed his fingers over his tattoo.
"Starlight..." he whispered
And with that a huge light surrounded the two boys, Katio looked up from his position on the floor. He spat out the dry mud that had seeped into his mouth. He saw his brother in the arms of Kiyoshi, he covered his face slightly with his arm from the bright light.
"I'm right here with you" Kiyoshi whispered once more as the to slowly began to rise off the floor
"Yori!" Katio shot to his feet, "Yori...!" he screamed as his brother and the blue haired wizard he had thought so weak disappeared into the star filled sky.
Yori went to glance down at his brother but instead of seeing his older sibling he saw an almost blinding light, it surrounded him.
"Kiyoshi..?" he called out, his hand clawed at the bright light "Kiyoshi?" he called again, his voice a little louder than before
"Yori..." a soft feminine voice spoke out
Yori stopped his hand from moving, his body froze. He knew that voice, slowly he turned around, his blue eyes grew wide.
"M-Mum..." he chocked
"Yori..." she called again, her arms open wide, her expression sad
"Mum!" Yori called as he stood and raced into her arms "Mum!" he sobbed as she caught him
"My baby" she whispered, stroking the boy's snow white hair as she held him in her arms "My little boy" she smiled
Yori held his mother tightly, not wanting to let her go.
"What's going on?" Yori asked his brother
Katio was stood on a stool looking out at his parents who were arguing, again. They had been fighting more and more over the last few weeks.
"What's going on?" Yori asked again as he tugged at Katio's shirt
"Mum and dad are arguing again" Katio told him
Yori stopped his tugging, his bottom lip began to tremble, tears started to form in his eyes.
"It'll be alright" Katio smiled "Mum always calms dad down" he assured his younger brother
Katio stepped down off the small stool and hugged Yori tightly, he kissed his little brothers soft red cheek.
The twins parents came back into the home, they were no longer fighting. Katio turned and greeted them, Yori wiped his eyes and looked up.
"Oh why all the tears?" their mother asked
"He was upset because you two were fighting" Katio explained "I gave him a hug and made him all better" he added with a smile
"Very good Katio" their mother smiled "You always look after your brother so well"
"Why were you fighting?" Yori asked as his mother took a seat next to the burning fire
"Nothing for you to worry about sweetheart" their mother smiled, she held out her arms for her babies
Katio and Yori scrambled onto their mothers knees for their bed time story. Their mother always read to them before bedtime, they had always fallen asleep with her next to the fire. Together, sometimes father was there to. But recently he hadn't been...
… Time Skip …
It was winter, the snow was deep and the wind ice cold. Katio had been woken by a loud crash, he sat up in his bed and looked over to his brother who had also heard the loud noise.
The two boys heard their mother's crying voice and their fathers bellowing tone right after. Katio heard the front door swing open, the raven haired boy crawled to his window which his bed was up against.
He saw his mother and father fighting, again. Tears stung his eyes, the arguments had been getting worse and they now scared the twins. Katio jumped off his bed and raced down the stairs.
"Wait, wait" Yori cried after his brother, he scrambled down from his bed and chased after his brother
Katio skidded to a stop as he reached the open front door, his parents voices could still be heard but they were slowly drowning out. Yori stopped just behind his brother, breathless and clutching his teddy.
"Where's mum and dad?" Yori asked, panic filling his small voice
"They're arguing again..." Katio told his brother, he turned to face his twin "But don't worry" he smiled "We'll go and help mum calm dad down" he told him
"But its cold outside.." Yori pointed out
"We'll be alright, here" he raced over and grabbed their shoes
Katio helped Yori into his small black boots and took his siblings hand, he peered outside where it was snowing. There was no sign of his parents but he could still hear their voices. He guided Yori out of the family home and into the thick, dense woods.
"Katio...isn't there bears and stuff out here?" Yori worried as he clung to his brother's hand
"They're all sleeping" Katio assured his brother "We're save" he smiled and began climbing the steep hill
Their parents voices grew closer, Katio stopped and turned his head to the left. He could hear his mothers sobs, she had never cried like that before, she was pleading with their father but he didn't know why.
Worry set into Katio, he began to race towards his parents voices, Yori clung tight to his brothers hand but Katio was simply to fast.
"S-Slow down" Yori stumbled
"Hurry up" Katio cried back as his fathers voice echoed the forest and a loud crashing noise of breaking wood echoed the forest
Yori stopped, his legs trembled with fear, "What was that?" he asked, his voice shaking
Katio didn't reply, he had raced off without Yori. Yori began to cry and clutch his teddy tighter, he must have let go of Katio's hand when he stumbled.
"Katio?" he called, his eyes filled with tear, he glanced up and saw his brother climbing the steep hill above them
Yori struggled through the snow to catch up to his brother, snowflakes set in the raven's thick dark hair as he clambered up the hill, almost breathless as he drew closer to the top. Yori called to his brother again, but the distance between them was to great, Katio couldn't hear Yori.
"You're weak!" their father spat
Katio stopped just on top of the hill, his head peering over the side at his parents. His mother was crying and his father looked enraged.
"I am not! I am not weak Albert!" Katio's mother cried back "I just want what's best for our children!"
"And you think taking them away from here is the right thing to do?!"
"Yes, of course it is! Wolfclaw is corrupted"
"You're only saying that because you are weak, you're weak and useless!"
"Weak because I love, how can that be weakness?!"
"Because it makes you vulnerable, I don't want my boys growing up to be crying babies!"
"They won't be" Katio's mother tried to argue back
"Of course they will...! Taking them to that Fairy Tail guild will achieve nothing, they are much better here, where they belong"
"No!" Katio's mother cried and stood straight, her head was bleeding
Katio's eyes grew wide, why was his mother's head bleeding. He glanced down to his mother's feet and saw a large piece of wood at her feet...had the branch fallen on her...?
"You will not take my boys from me Anna!" Albert, their father grabbed Anna's hand
"Let go of me, you're hurting me!" Anna struggled
"You will not take them..." Albert repeated, this time his voice was lower, his words icy
Katio stood motionless as his mother struggled helplessly against his father. Why was Wolfclaw so bad? Why did their mother want to take them away from their father? Who and what was Fairy Tail? All these questions rang in the raven's mind.
"Stop, Albert...Stop" Anna begged as she fell to her knees
Katio glanced up, his mother's face was losing its colour, his fathers hold on her strong. Katio shook his head and raced over towards his father, begging him to stop.
"I can't...I can't breath" Anna gasped as her eyes slowly lidded
"Mum!" Katio stopped just as Albert let her go
Anna fell to the forest floor, her lifeless body sinking into the cold, wet ground. Katio stepped forward but was stopped by his father's hand, the hand which had taken his mother's life.
"No Katio, do not touch her"
Katio began to cry, he fell to his knees just meters from his mother. He stared at her large blue eyes, her cheeks were stained with tears.
"Mummy..." he sobbed
"Don't cry" Albert told his son "Only weak people cry Katio, you're not weak, are you...?"
Katio looked up to his father, their eyes meeting. He caught his breath and slowly shook his head, no he was not weak. He was a wolf, a wolf was brave.
"Good, then wipe your eyes" Albert told him "Take your brother home and never speak to him of this"
"But.."
"You do not tell him what happened here, he is not like you, he cries all the time, he is not brave or strong like you Katio. He is weak and useless, people like him end up like mummy, do you want Yori to end up like mummy?"
Katio glanced back down at his mother's still body, he shook his head.
"No..." he mumbled
"Good, now hurry along"
Katio slowly got to his feet, "What will happen to mummy now?" he asked
"I will take her far away from here, you don't have to think about her anymore, you're a wolf, wolf's don't concern themselves with weak members"
Katio nodded his head and wiped his eyes, he took in a breath and turned around. Wolf's were strong, they didn't care about the weak, his mother was weak. His mother was not strong enough to be a wolf, that is why his father had taken her life, it was the right thing for a wolf to do. He told himself as he made his way down the steep hill which Yori was still struggling to climb.
"Katio" Yori smiled, seeing his brother
"Quit bugging me!" Katio snapped "Dad said we need to go home"
Yori stopped in his tracks, Katio had never snapped at him like that before, or used such a tone. He complied with his brother though, he turned and followed him down the hill.
"Where's mum?" he asked, wondering why she had not come with his brother
"Gone" Katio said flatly
"Gone where?" Yori asked
"Dead"
"D-Dead?...W-What do you mean dead?" Yori stuttered, tears filling his eyes
"As in not breathing moron, what other way is there to be dead!"
""B-But..." Yori stumbled and fell forward, planting his face right in the thick snow
Katio turned, his eyes narrowed. Hatred set into his warm heart as he stormed towards his crying brother.
"Stop being so pathetic, why do you always have to be so slow, why can you never keep up!" Katio grabbed his brother by the collar and lifted him to his feet
"I'm sorry" Yori sobbed
"You're pathetic, I hate you" Katio threw his brother back down into the snow
Yori landed with a hard slam, his teddy went rolling away. He reached out to grab it, crying for it as it descended into the thick overgrowth.
"It's just a teddy, quit your crying and grow up!"
Yori stopped his crying abruptly, he stared up at his brother with wide eyes, his white hair flat. Katio clenched his fists, Yori's face ached his heart, though they were twins they were not identical. Yori had taken on a lot of his mother features why Katio had taken on his father, Yori's hair matched Anna's, his small lips and button nose to.
"Why, why can't I cry? Mummy's dead, I should be allowed to cry"Yori argued back with gritted teeth
"Because crying is for the weak!" Katio snapped "And were not weak, we're wolf's!" Katio felt his bottom lip quiver but he did not give in to his forcing tears
"T-Then I don't want to be a wolf...I cry all the time because things scare me and because I'm sad..." Yori confessed
"Tch...fine! Then go join mum!" Katio hissed
Before Yori could ask his brother what he meant he was gone. Yori stayed sitting in the cold snow, he felt his tears surface and fall down his burning red cheeks. He lifted his hand and wiped away a single droplet, he looked down at his hand which it sat upon. He didn't understand anything, he didn't understand why his brother was being so mean, or who had killed his mother, or what had really happened up there...on that hill.
Yori took a breath and clutched his knees,he suddenly felt so alone, "Mummy..." he sobbed quietly "Mummy..."
Katio returned home breathless, he stood before the open door with wide eyes. His heart ached, just moments ago he had left this house thinking he could help stop the fighting between his parents but instead he had witness the death of his mother.
Katio slowly entered the cabin, the wooden boards under his feet creaked. He glanced around the open planned living and kitchen area, it felt eerie and cold. Katio pulled at his pyjama top, his head turned and his eyes set upon his mother's chair, next to the fire. Katio slowly made his way over towards it, his small hand brushed over the fabric of the arm.
"Mum..." he called softly, still he held back his tears
Katio climbed up on to the chair, he snuggled down into a small, tiny ball. He nuzzled his head into the flower patten covers and took in a deep breath. The chair smelt like his mother, he placed his palm down on one of her snowy white, hand made cushions. His head lowered and slowly his tears began to fall, he hadn't realized he had let go of his emotions. He sobbed quietly to himself, calling out for his mum inside his head.
Katio took the cushion and held it tightly, his sobs grew angrier as he clutched the little pillow tighter. Why couldn't his mum have been strong, why did she have to be weak and argue with dad!? This was their home, Wolfclaw not Fairy Tail...
They were wolf's not faires...they were wolf's not faires he repeated to himself, Katio got to his feet, were wolf's not faires!
"I am a wolf, not a fairy!" he cried and glanced down at the pillow in his hand
Katio glanced up at the burning fire, he stepped towards it and through his mother's cushion into the dancing orange flames.
"A wolf...I am a wolf..." he told himself and wiped his eyes "I'm not a fairy..."
Yori caught his breath, his eyes were watering from tears. What had just happened, had he just seen the past? Was it...was it his father who had killed his mother?
Kiyoshi slowly released the white haired wizard, Yori turned his head, he was back in the stadium.
"W-What just happened?" he questioned the blue haired wizard
