Greetings and salutations everyone and here is another chapter. This is a nice silly chapter after the thoughtful serious one last time. The Legend of The Iced Monster

Jim was enjoying a bit of time alone in his quarters and was halfway through one of his old books when Spock interrupted him. He wondered what had happened to cause his first officer to seek him out and whether it was something bad or whether the Vulcan wanted another game of chess.

"What is it Spock?"

"Captain, I am unsure whether this is a matter you wish to know of but I feel that I should inform you that Mr Chekov and Mr Sulu have locked themselves in one of the kitchens. They are apparently baking."

"I don't see the problem with that Spock, they've done baking before."

"I know Captain but in previous times they have been supervised by either Doctor McCoy or Lieutenant Uhura, this time they are not."

That caused Jim to pause for thought and he began to see the potential ramifications of Pavel and Hikaru let loose in a kitchen. There was a very good chance that Pavel would get an idea and if he did Hikaru would most definitely help him with it, Jim wasn't really keen on seeing the end result of such an occurrence.

"It might be a good idea for us to see what they are doing just in case."

There were a lot of noises and yelling coming from behind the kitchen door when they arrived and that did not bode well.

"Karu, catch eet!"

"I'm trying but it keeps escaping!"

"Chase eet tovards the owen, maybe ve can trap eet!"

"Okay, hold the door open but watch out its vicious!"

There was a loud growling noise and a yelp of pain from Hikaru, "YOW! It bit me; watch out Pav its coming for you!"

There was a panicked sound from what sounded like Pavel and Jim was instantly at the door controls overriding the lock.

"Someone is opening the door!"

"Don't do eet! You'll let ze beast escape!"

The warnings from within came too late, the door opened and Jim was bowled over by something. There was a ferocious growl and the thing shot off down the corridor, Jim recovered himself quickly enough to try and get a look at this new foe. He saw the rapidly retreating form of a fanged…Iced Sponge Cake?!

He looked in shock at a ragged looking Hikaru and Pavel, "What the hell!?"

Jim had no idea how to explain this to admiralty, he was certain they would not believe that the Enterprise was currently under attack from a highly dangerous, fanged Iced Sponge Cake. To make matters worse it was strawberry flavoured and had a real strawberry jam filling so Jim was also allergic to the thing, it was lucky that it hadn't touched his skin when it knocked him down or he would have had a major allergic reaction.

He was on the bridge while Spock and security scoured the ship for the demonic cake and was questioning Pavel and Hikaru to find out how they had managed to make a cake monster.

"So you were testing out a new kind of flour?"

"Da Keptain," Pavel nodded vigorously, "eet was designed so zat you only hawe to use a fraction of vat you usually vould. Me and Karu had created eet using von of his new plants, ve vere trying to see eef eet vould vork."

"And it was fine until you added the icing?"

Hikaru was the one who answered, "Yes Captain, we'd just put the last of it on when the cake became vicious and attacked. I don't know how it grew fangs though."

At that moment Spock's voice came through the comms, "Captain we have found the creature."

"That's great Spock have you caught it?"

"Unfortunately not Captain, we managed to corner it but it managed to bite Lieutenant Danners leg and has escaped towards Engineering."

"Is Danners okay?"

"The wound is significant but I believe that once Ensign Horace gets her to the Medbay she will make a full recovery. I and the remainder of my team will continue to pursue."

"Understood Spock, Kirk out."

Eventually the Iced Killer Sponge was caught but not by any of the crew. It made the mistake of entering the lair of the goose and they heard a terrific honking and growling and when the reached the scene all that was left was the mashed remains of cake and a few feathers. It was decided that all the admiralty would be told was that an investigation into using flour from a new species of plant was deemed 'unsuccessful' considering that it was unlikely they'd believe them if they said what had actually happened anyway.

Pavel and Hikaru were grounded for performing unauthorised experiments and were banned from being in a kitchen unsupervised ever again. The event disappeared into Enterprise legend and became known to many only as 'The Legend of the Iced Monster'.
